Aperture issue with full manual lens

I've had the K1 since it was released 4 years ago or so and this morning is the first day I actually realized what the green buttons purpose is and what it could actually be used for!
Embarrassing to admit but I've never needed to use the green button until I got this SMC Pentax 135mm f/2.5 Lens a week ago!

I'll quickly adapt and get used to the green button metering with this lens. I was surely scratching my head though trying to figure out how to use it! LOL (I thought I knew everything! haha)

I got the green button to meter for me! I really appreciate your help, I was about to give up with this lens.
I just used the green button and shot a few shots with this lens at f8 and it is really sharp. Not bad at all for a 40 year old lens!

I'm just having trouble now being able to set the exposure as there isn't a metering scale in the viewfinder like most other cameras have when in manual. Basically having to guess and adjust....

---------- Post added 12-20-20 at 07:53 AM ----------

It would probably be much simpler cutting the lever off and just shooting this lens in AV mode to where the camera would meter and adjust the shutter speed like it does with all my M42 lenses! LOL

Ok, when in M Mode, if I set the aperture ring to say, F8, and look down in to the lens when I snap a pic I see the blades stopping down (closing) when pressing the shutter button. I didn't know the lens/camera operated this way with manual lenses with the lever.....Obviously I have to shoot this lens in M mode!
Thanks for your help!

The aperture opens and closes fine when I spin the ring if the lens is off the camera. I have the cameras Aperture ring setting #26 set to enable as I've spent the last 4 years using the K1 with manual lenses (M42 Mount). This 135 is the only K mount manual lens I own with the lever that sticks out the back of the lens. (it doesn't have the A or M option on the lens itself)

Hi, I have a SMC Pentax 135mm f/2.5 lens, this is the exact lens at link:
SMC Pentax 135mm F2.5 Reviews - K Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

I'm trying to use it on the K1 and when I mount the lens the lever on the back locks the aperture wide open and there is no way to stop the lens down. I've tried about everything I can think of and either I am missing some camera setting or the lever needs to be removed.

Do I need to cut the lever that sticks out the back of the lens off? or is there a work around? I'm stumped.

Any help would be appreciated as this lens is pretty sharp wide open and I'd love to see what it can do stopped down some.

Thanks

I've tried that and it moves the focus point when using the viewfinder but not in liveview....
I also have the AF button being used for back button focusing if that makes a difference.

OK, I just figured it out! Thanks

Hi, I've had the K1 since it was released in 2016 and have only used full manual M42 mount lenses on it until two weeks ago.
I got a couple full auto focusing modern lenses for it (28-105 & 24-70) and for the life of me can not figure out how to move the single focusing point in live view? I've been through the manual and the menus several times and am about to pull my hair out as I can not find the settings to allow this. I'm pretty sure I must be over-looking something but need someone to tell me how to do this.
Please help!?

I don't even have to think twice about it, get the K1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a large collection of Takumar's and also old Pentax manual lenses, plus a few other M42 mount lenses and the K1 (first edition). Pretty much the best camera I ever owned, especially for shooting old glass.

Pentax K1 w/ manual lens won't trigger off camera flash

I also had to do this "tape thing" too as I only shoot old manual lenses with my K1 and wanted to use my off camera Godox flashes. (2- AD200's and 2 v860ii's with the Xpro P trigger). The tape thing got old fast!
I normally run my off camera flash kit with my Canon gear but it's nice now to be able to use them with my vintage glass on the K1. !
It does suck being limited to 1/200th and not being able to use HSS, but it is what it is for the time being.....it's awesome having the option to at least now use my Godox lights with my K1 and all my old Takumars!

I leave mine on all the time; it shuts down after a few minutes but all I need to do if half press the shutter button and it fires right back up and is ready to fire. I can see through the OFV regardless if the camera is on or not. Perfect for what I'm doing and how I shoot.

I shoot only old manual vintage lenses with my K1 and I must say that the #1 feature for me is actually 3 features;
1. The amazing sensor
2. IBIS
3. The focus beep!

The focus beep is not 100% accurate all the time but it quickly gets me very near to where I need to be and within a micro second from there I'm precisely where I need to be and pressing the shutter......

I've tried mirrorless for my vintage lens collection and the K1 is much better (for me personally) as I am constantly using the OVF for scoping and finding compositions.....using a mirrorless I'd have to carry a bucket of batteries with me every where!!!!

Battery in the K-1: how long does it last?

I shoot most of the time in live view fine focusing old manual lenses and the battery life seems extremely great. I haven't ever did a count but I imagine I'm getting at least 300+ images per battery or almost 6 to 8 hrs when using live view most of the time. I shoot a little bit almost daily and a battery lasts a week or so. If I'm spending a full day shooting mostly in live view I do sometimes go through a full battery and need to put a fresh one in before the end of the day.
I am surprised at how long a battery will last in my K1 when shooting a lot in live view.....
