This is called "young satyr" so maybe I should have saved it to stave off the dreaded "yellow." Maybe I'll X-post

Maybe it's been out in the sun too long and has faded.

BTW: When taking multiple images for stacking of a live one, in the field, do you 1) work off a tripod or hand held; 2) move the camera or twist the focus ring; 3) do whichever of these depending on the situation?

Small black beetle with yellowing legs*, probably the most common form I see. Here they are called "darkling beetles" (Tenebrionidae) and there seems to be at least one under every bit of bark, small twig, and even rock that I turn over.

*Some have black legs

Is this formula accurate for hood length?

AMEN to that. Not elegant, not handsome, not OME. BUT, inexpensive; easily collapsed on the lens; easily stored in a camera bag where they will not scratch or be scratched by other equipment; cushions the front of the lens; do not get shiny spots around the outer edge as metal hoods do; if they get dirty they can be washed (!); AND FINALLY: 100% effective = do everything they are supposed to every bit as well as hoods that cost five times more.

Disadvantages: not as good on a zoom lens, which are better served by a tulip hood. Replacing the latter with a rubber hood means getting one for the shortest FL of the zoom.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE about rubber hoods: they are all screw-on, never bayonet, and never the obvious design, pinch-click to mount like a lens cap, and yes, this is possible for a lens hood or a filter.

FYI: The exact number of living bird species isn't know precisely - there may be unrecognized species; there may be two named species that are actually just color variants; there are certainly some very rare species that have gone extinct since they were last seen and counted - but, most agree there are about 10,000 species*. Tricky to know how to identify every one of them.

*One source attempted a precise count and came up with 10,404, with the addendum: it is probable that 101 of those on the list are now extinct.

The combination of sharp vs bokeh, brighter vs darker, and yellow/orange vs green really makes this flower pop out against the background.

I cropped down to a small part of the original image of this plant, which is big, because the red color is easier to appreciate. I think I knew the name on the day I took the picture, but after several years of nat thinking about it.....sorry. Noelcmn probably knows.

Pure water on the move., unsullied by inclusion of human constructions or Earthly materials. It shares the image space only with gravity*.

*Should I be scientific and type instead "warped space-time."
