Cinestill 50

I have previously shot it in 135 and just finished my first roll in 120. It's my favourite colour negative film, but it's very picky with lighting. This film needs very sunny light, so forget overcast days.

I'm not a fan of Ektar, but do like Portra which overall is more consistent than CiniStill 50. But when the conditions are just right CiniStill 50 can produce images that get close to Kodachrome, which is still the benchmark for me.

I'm taking my roll of CiniStill 50 in 120 to the lab today, so will have some scans by the end of next week.

Here are a couple samples shot in 135:

Pretty well most of the image just faded away, so not much left on the slide. All of them were the same.

Just curious, do you folks from the UK, EU or Australia get charged the import duties on every purchase if it's over the minimum amount allowed from abroad, or is it random?

In Canada it's random and mostly depends on how busy the customs agents are. The best time to order photo gear is around Xmas as they are swamped with parcels and let most items through, even though they are hundreds of dollars over the minimum limit. Summer is another good time when it's vacation season for most people.

The question is for items via your countries postal system, couriers always ding you the duties and broker fees as that's how they make money.

Re-thinking this, the slides for sale in museums back then would have been "duplicates" from the original. So it would have been slide duplicating film, that film had a really low ASA and was completely different from regular consumer slide film. Probably why those slides faded so badly over the years.

Very nice!

Funny how that happens, when you don't want anyone in a shot people just keep coming, when you do nothing........

What a great shot, well done!

If you are using the AF280T the Auto Flash Exposure Check does not work in the TTL Auto mode if I'm reading the manual correctly.

Here is a link to the Af280T manual, the password is Pentax

In 1976 I went to the Hermitage Museum in Lenningrad/Saint Petersburg. Most museums back then used to sell slides of their major art works, as you could not take any photos inside the museum. So I bought a bunch of slides from the Hermitage gift shop.

My Kodachrome slides from that 1976 trip are all in perfect shape, however all the ones I bought in the museum had faded so badly that I had to chuck them. No clue what slide film it was, but unlike Kodachrome it degraded very quickly.

Yeah I watched it to as a kid, but like Batman it was a bit too corny sometimes.

Star Trek however was the series I really liked, as well as Combat, Avengers, Time Tunnel, Man From U.N.C.L.E, Mission Impossible.................................

Plastic - Why so much shy-away, hatred?

It's just those two 50mm "A Series" lenses, all the rest have the older style metal aperture ring assemblies. I sent my A50/1.7 to Eric for a CLA, as the aperture ring was very stiff.
He said there is not much he could do as Pentax used plastic aperture parts on those "budget" 50mm standard lenses, which basically ruined an optically very good lens. If Pentax had used a metal aperture ring assembly, then the A50/1.7 & A50/2 would have been the same as the rest of the A Series lenses. Pentax was just being cheap and tried to save a few dollars on the cost of a couple lenses, unfortunately it back fired.

Yep very true. That's the main problem with the A50/1.7 & A50/2 is the plastic aperture ring assembly that jams. Or the PZ/Z bodies plastic bottom (cracking problems) and the last "made in China" plastic junk K1000's.

There is also CiniStill Film 800T, but it's Tungsten. (DX coded as well).

Another vote for Portra 800.

I've also got some way old Agfachrome 1000 RS left in my freezer. Unfortunately it's previous owner did not store it well, so it's lost a few stops. If you can find some properly stored Agfachrome that could be a cheaper "Lomo" option.

My father in-law gave me his old German Akarelle Rangefinder and it has the same lens, though it looks a bit different than the above pictures. I had both CLAed and the camera/lens now work great.

Here are a few pictures taken with the camera and 50/2.8 lens, yes it's pretty good. (film used was Efke 25, shot at 25 ISO)

I have the K35/3.5 and the A35/2.8, which has the same optics as the M35/2.8. (I only use them on film cameras)

No contest, the K35/3.5 is the better lens and has superb optics.

Enjoy the KX, it's my all time favorite Pentax film body.
