I'm looking into buying a serious P&S with hot shoe and full manual control.
Ricoh GX-100/200 or a Canon G?
I want the new DP2, but it's a bit over my price range.

Sync speed and tech question.

Thanks for your input.

I don't have AF-540 flash, sold both of them. Only have manual flashes.

I'm thinking about buying a P&S with hot-shoe that syncs on all shutter speeds.
My Cactus V4 triggers is good for 1/320sec. Maybe 1/400sec.
When I get my PW I can sync at 1/640sec. Maybe 1/1000sec if I'm lucky.

Shouldn't it be possible to use higher sync speed with dSLRs with LV? Both the mirror and the shutter are up.

Pentax have sync speed at 1/180sec. The old Nikon D70 have a hybrid mech./electronic shutter that syncs up to 1/500sec with TTL flash and higher with flashes connected with PW.

Is it possible to modify a Pentax K100D to do the same as the Nikon D70?

I placed an order after reading that Flickr discussion. I also bought Cactus V4 wireess flash trigger with two receivers, one for AF-540 and one for Cactus KF36. Some umbrellas and a light stand too. :)

Read my post, look at the picture.

K-7 and K-m are almost the same size. If a K-7 was built in plastic and with less metal inside it would be lighter. It's possible to reduce the grip size, remove buttons and still have the same look.

You maybe right about the buttons. Some of the buttons don't need to be on a entry level camera. AF buttons, Liveview buttton, RAW button, lightmeter handle/lever.

We are talking about a K-7 body, not K20D. Big difference in size there. I have the K20D and used to own a K-m. The K-m is not more of a "travel" dSLR than the K20D.
A P&S like Canon G10 or Sigma DP1/DP2 are more suited for travel.

I agree.

I wrote that in my first post. Look at the picture.

Entry level= An upgraded K-m in a smaller* plastic K-7 body with some wheather sealing
Mid range= An upgraded K20D in a plastic K-7 body with wheather seals like the K-7.
High end= K-7

Edit:
An entry level dSRL in a K-7 body without top LCD and all the buttons would be ugly.
I would love to see an upgraded K20D in a plastic K-7 body using the same grip, batteries etc. But without HD-movie and max 3,5 FPS.

Let's say the new K-7 is the top of the line.

Why can't they make an entry level and a mid-range dSLR that looks identical?
K-7 in Mag-alloy and the two lower end dSLR in plastic. Same button layout etc. but different body metarial and cheaper/older part inside.

We could use the same battery and grip on all models.

Pentax only need to upgrade the high-end/prosumer dSLR, the mid-range dSLR will inherit specs./parts from the high-end/prosumer dSLR and the entry level dSLR will inherit specs./parts from the mid-range dSLR.

If Apple can do it, why can't Pentax do it with dSLR's?
All the 24" iMac's have the same look, but with different specs./hardware inside.
Why have 3-4 different dSLR body's when you can make 1 in mag-alloy and 1 in plastic?

Let's say you are new to dSLR photgraphy, you buy the entry level dSLR.
Later on, you get hooked on photography or just wan't a better camera, so you buy the mid-range or the high-end dSLR.
My question; Would you sell the entry level dSLR? If both dSLR had the same button layout, same charger, battery, battery-grip and so on. I know I wouldn't, a back-up camera is alway great to have. I know! This is the sixth week without my K20D.

Is this insane or is it just me:o

EDIT:

Entry level= An upgraded K-m in a plastic K-7 body with some wheather sealing
Mid range= An upgraded K20D in a plastic K-7 body with wheather seals like the K-7.
High end= K-7
Don't know if the mid-range dSLR should have HD-video.

The e-dial on my "new" K100D is not working

EV button works. When I press it the LCD display shows me EV compensation 0.0 and nothing happens when I turn the e-dial.

Someone knows how the e-dial works? The dial feels normal.

I have checked the custom settings, resetted the camera etc.

I have tried with different lenses.

Tried it on all modes and playback. The magnifying tool won't work, so I think it has to be the dial that is broken.

My K20D is in Germany for repairs and now I have a broken K100D, just my luck!

I bought a K100D for about $190USD. It looks almost brand new, but the e-dial don't work. The camera works great when I'm using the sceene and the Auto picture modus- The previous owner have used it for about 11 months and he said it had about 400 clicks on it.

How can an e-dial just stop working?

Someone knows about a problem like this?

This is probably going on the warranty, right?

It looks like the same door as the Pentax K-m have.

I think all new Pentax dSLR models will look more or less like the current K-m.
May 21. we will have the K-7. I'm more curious what comes after the K-7 model.

Q:

Do the new K-7 use AA or D-LI50 batteries?

Is this the top/"high-end" model in the new K-series?

About the same size as the K200D, but how is it built?

Dust and weather sealed?

Now they have K-m and K-7, will Pentax come with a dSLR that's fits under or above the K-7?

They will continue to sell the K20D?

He is a better photographer than you? :p

Nikon D90 is a better camera than the K20D...
Did you compare the images on the back LCD screen?
Nikon D90 have a 3" screen with 920000 dots/pix.
K20D have a 2,7" screen with 230000 dots/pix.

Nikon have very good camera's, Pentax too. I would buy Nikon if I sold all my Pentax gear, but I will wait until I know more about the new K7(?).

PSCS+ACR vs. PS Elements vs. Lightroom

PC/M$ or Mac?

You have Elements 7 with ACR for Windows.
Elements 6 for Mac, it comes with ACR and Bridge.

LR2 for both Mac and PC.

I would choose LR2, if you don't need to do advanced editing with layers etc.
It's the best software when it comes to workflow and developing your RAW files.

All of my RAW files are developed in LR2, maybe 2-5% of them are further processed in PS.

Buy LR2 and if you need PS, try to get an older version that's on sale or something. Or learn Gimp.
