Thanks, barondla. That first one was taken with my 55-300 plm which, with the KP, seems to be pretty good at action. I used afs, not afc, and pinned with center spot focus at 1/500th

What lenses do you use on your KP?

My walk-around combo is 16-45 and 70mm Limited, the latter supplying the short tele left out on 16-45. My travel lens is the 18-135, but I think my new 55-300 plm might make the trip too...very compact!

Why I won't buy into another camera brand - I'm keeping my Pentax gear.

Agreed. K20D, K-01, K30, now KP...and more lenses than I can carry. Pentax has worked very well for me, still seems like most bang for the buck.

It was closer to Kilimanjaro. I had seen the soda lake in The Constant Gardener, with all the flamingos, and was looking for a chance to shoot on a similar lake.

Pentax Forum Grammar Question

I am not sure about PENTAX versus Pentax, but the "f" in "f- number" should be lower case,to reflect the result of the formula N = f/D, where f is focal length and D is lens diameter, as in a lens of 50mm focal length, and with a diameter of 25mm, 50mm/25mm = an N of 2.0, commonly called an f-number of f/2. As for periods versus commas, this is good ol' US versus European conventions; they use commas where we use decimal points, as in "f/1.8" versus "f/1,8" over there.

The K-01 is the preferred beast for photomicrography--Live view is its way of life, and it is light on the microscope. And it makes terrific videos too! Found this guy in some stagnant water. The set up is as follows: K-01, lens removed; screw-mount adapter; Asahi Optical Microscope converter; trinocular microscope with dedicated camera port and adapter. This is at 100X, live mount

OK, I am late on this thread and no one is reading it anymore...But I have the t490 and have taken a few shots through it with my Bumblebee K-01. OK, my K-30 would have worked as well, but I eventually want to make videos so I am breaking in the K-01. It also sits lighter on the sky scraper I built to hold it! From the camera out it is 1)Pentax screw mount adapter which is marked "Asahi Optical Co."--haha 2) Asahi Optical Microscope adapter I bagged on eBay--a complex little apparatus which screws into the adapter and slides onto the trinocular tube provided by Amscope. This adjusts to vary the focal length, but this seems to be of no purpose--it might be that the Asahi Microscope adapter is a bit on the long side for it to work. No Problem--just focus the microscope till the image is clear on the K-01 screen. Best to use the two second delay; if you think shake is a problem with a 500 mm, or with a macro at 1:1, try putting these together to approximate shake at 100X. The pic of Dog artery shows some blur, but I plan to do better.
This scope is a great buy at Amazon. I am pretty sure Nikon and Olympus scopes are manufactured in China, and possibly on the same assembly line as these T490s, as Amscope claims. Yes, you can find better optics, but at relatively low powers (40-400X) the T490 will do the job. Let's put it this way--if you think of it as a LENS, it is pretty inexpensive at $276!
