Very Last Chance for KatzEye Focusing Screens ("Final Production Run")

I'll give that a try.

I've also tried keeping the neck strap fairly short, and then holding my K-01 (or my K-3 when using live view) out so that it pulls a bit against the tension of the strap coming from the back of my neck -- it seems to help a bit with stability, too.

BTW -- I hope the "This post was made by a User whom you are Ignoring." I see for your sig is a joke of yours -- I certainly don't have you (or anyone) on my "ignore list". :o

I think that is true (for ease of use) under most conditions even without a tripod.

I do appreciate live view both for its accuracy and its precision, but not for ease of use, at least when I'm hand-holding a cam w/ lens on it.

As Steve has said, that's the best way to judge MF focusing, although I tend to leave focus peaking on.

BTW, one observation:

While the split-image KatzEye does help me get sharp MF, using live view with focus peaking seems to be slightly more precise. That is, with live view I can hit exact focus quite readily, while with the KatzEye I can sometimes be very very slightly too close or very very slightly too far -- however, my eyes (now older than dirt) may be a factor in getting exact focus with a split-image finder.

[Another way to say this is that both tools seem to be very high in accuracy, but that the live view with focus peaking seems to have higher precision than the split-image screen.]

I ~LOVE~ nailing the focus with my MF lenses !!!

I finally installed my new one in the K-3 just a couple of days ago, did some testing for focus plane accuracy (it seemed spot on), and proceeded to test it out on the RMC 100-300/5.6 I'd been playing with recently, and it made focusing a lot simpler (f/5.6 with OptiBrite was do-able, although it sometimes it took a bit of centering of the eye to see both slit image halves at the same time). I am glad to be able to get one of these for my K-3 before dey bin gawn away.

And it was indeed "nice to have most of the last ones going to Pentaxers, and not to all the 'riff-raf' ".

Perhaps not. :)

Maybe the "Arrived USA -> Departed USA" is due to Customs screening? -- Well, that doesn't make sense, either, since I would assume that Customs on the destination country only would care or be involved. -- (?)

EDIT: Oh, I know what was happening during the "Arrived USA -> Departed USA" part -- the package had to be manually turned upside-down to be ready to ship to Australia. :)

When I emailed Rachel to "upgrade" my order to OptiBrite treatment, I mentioned to her that I had started this thread in the PF "Price Watch" forum to make fellow Pentaxers aware of the "Last Roundup" of KatzEye screens, and she noted,

That explains why the final batch is almost all Pentax screens!

And so, as I hoped for in the original post,

most of the last ones [~did~ go] to Pentaxers, and not to all the "riff-raff".

I think that the Optibrite treatment affects only the matte area of the screen, making it brighter in appearance at smaller apertures (than it would otherwise appear at smaller apertures) -- I do not think it affects the central focusing aids. [Someone please correct me if I am wrong.]

I think that the Optibrite treatment may also exaggerate the metering error a bit more than the standard screen does. [Someone please correct me if I am wrong.]

I ordered mine this time without the Optribrite treatment (partly to same money, and partly to minimize metering errors). Some of my lenses are fast (some MF, some AF), while some of them are slower (some MF, some AF), but I'm not expecting a significant problem with dark screens... [I may be proven wrong, of course.]

Going Out of Business
Final Production Run!
[...] As of May 9, 2016, we have a very limited amount of remaining material and are preparing to produce our final batch of screens, before closure of the business. What this means is that we will take orders until the final batch is sold out, and then begin to produce the screens to fill those orders. Until the batch is sold out, your order will be held in queue, to be processed in sequence, once production begins. [...]

It would be nice to have most of the last ones going to Pentaxers, and not to all the "riff-raff". :D
