Thanks for that. However, I thought a simple "Bob is closed" sign on a little portable stand near the doorway would have been handy.

1) purchasing and owning too many camera bodies;
2) purchasing and owning too many lenses, some of which do the same thing (= redundant);
3) purchasing and owning too many tripod heads:
4) purchasing and owning too many tripod legs;
5) purchasing and owning too many strobes, especially on-camera;
6) purchasing and owning too many camera bags;
7) purchasing and owning too many miscellaneous photo things (radio remotes; TTL flash wires; remote shoes; brackets, light stands, filters, adapter rings, close-up filters; reversing rings; bellows, extension tubes, etc.)
8) constantly thinking, even knowing that the piece of equipment I don't have is superior to the one I do have;
9) constantly thinking, even knowing that better equipment will make me a better photographer;
10) not getting off my b-- enough to actually use the equipment I have;
11) spending more time posting on PF than taking pictures.

And worst of all:
12) being totally unrepentant for every one of my faults.

Hey! I'm retired, I've accumulated some money, I can DAIDWP.

These are a few shots from a ski trip to June Mountain, in the Eastern Sierras. We had some huge snowfalls while we stayed here and after we left the rains were so heavy that we couldn't make it home - roads were closed. So we had to overnight in a hotel about 30 miles from our home.

I think this was posted because that version of the K1000 is supposed to be one of the best models. K55 f2 is not uncommon.

Auto-Takumar 85/1.8, original case and caps, which is presently mounted to my black H3 awaiting sunlight. Oh my. SV is quite jealous, but it got the ST55/1.8 that should have been there all along. AT35/3.5 goes to the drawer I guess.

I’ll add a couple beauty shots tomorrow. What a lens - just to hold such fabled glass is a thrill. I can’t wait to get it on K-1 and K-1ll in good light.

It is remarkable how few people know the K1000 was a cheapened afterthought - merely a line-extender before introduction of the ME - and it’s success as an inexpensive, simple, learning camera was a complete surprise.

Much like it is now, it was also common practice to meet "price points" by removing some functionalities like the MLU, self timer, memo holder, etc.

Of course back then add-on self timers were quite common so hopefully your friend was only disappointed for a short time before he found one like the Hansa Self Timer - "THE MOST ADVANCED SELF TIMER IN PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY".

Hansa may not have been aware that Spiratone had an ad for wireless remote tripper which arguably may be more advanced . . . ;)

Those Spiratone ads were just epic!

Night Lightning capture

Finally, some lightning capture after a very long period without. I've been working here in the central Pilbara for nearly 18 months, and had little to show for it, lightning-wise. Everything seemed against me in this particular spot--hilly terrain, storm going wrong direction, rain. In previous stints up here, slghtly different location , I'd had a lot of luck.
But this night it all came together, ad gave me what was probably the single best evening I've had. Exposures were relatively short with low ISO and small aperture in twilight, working up in exposure time, aperture and ISO as it darkened. Then I had to go back to low ISO and a smaller aperture when the brilliance started overwhelming the sensor. There is no layering here, all single exposures and fairly minimal PP.

I was lucky enough to cross this Snowy Owl today... It flew from a top of a barn to the top of a tree, where the moon filled the background.
I have to tell it's my lady that provided me the idea to position myself in order to cath them both in the frame... Thanks to my beloved! :-)

Handheld with Pentax K-3II + HD Rear Converter 1.4x + DA*300f4 (420mm) ... Another good example of the quality of the Pentax HD TC 1.4x...

Eric's warranty

In perhaps two dozen camera bodies serviced by Eric I had one I had to send back for re-do.

After tech school I worked in camera repair for Olympus at their USA headquarters in Woodbury NY.
FWIW we received a similar rate of returns on our in-warranty repairs of then-current products.

So Eric's success rate is as good as the manufacturer I once worked for.
Bear in mind he services much older, typically more worn equipment.

Recently I sent Eric an older Pentax manual focus lens for service.
One worn part he said should be replaced was no longer available.
Though the lens works acceptably now he refunded my payment.

When they made Eric they broke the mold.
His quality work and reasonable rates are mostly why I choose Pentax.

Decided to take another step "backwards" with my film gear with a Spotmatic F. Got it from KEH, took it to Paul at Advance Camera to go through it. Turned out only needing light seals & mirror bumper everything else was in great shape, in fact he said it was one of nicest Spotmatics he'd seen in a long time. While it was in the shop, picked up three lenses - S-M-C Takumar 28mm f3.5, Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 (which turned out to be a 8 element :D) and a S-M-C Takumar 135mm f2.5. In the process of running the first roll through, so far it's been a fun experience.

Well, the 60B beats the DA*300/f4 @ f/2.8! :lol: But these days the reason you get a 300/2.8 is because you have use for that f/2.8. Otherwise a 300/4 is smaller and has better handling, and modern DSLRs are good enough at higher ISO to minimize the necessity of f/2.8 in terms of light-gathering.

But... there is still something to be said for f/2.8 when you need to minimize both the foreground and the background (I have the 360B)...

And also, it works a treat with the 1.7x AFA; just dial in the manual focus fairly close to the subject and the 1.7x AFA locks in quickly...

I've never used the 400/4, but with my 300/2.8 and the larger 200-500/5.6 (31A) I've never had an issue with "sloppy focus and sloppy focal plane". However, twice I've had the Adaptall PK/A adapter disconnect itself from the lens.
