New K-70 On The Way!

My K-S2 cracked while in my carry-on and was never the same. Since I have several other Pentax bodies, I used the Pentax KP in its place. The KP is mostly magnesium, has a faster shutter and AF, and is just as compact or smaller. I weighs more, but I like the adjustable grips and certainly the K-70 is an excellent piece, I simply think for the small additional cost, the KP is a winner.
Believe it or not, I still use the K-5ii often. it's the 16mp sweet spot of Pentax and still venerable after all these years.

Pentax itself is just generally well-built regardless of the model you buy. The K-70 is a great value and I wish you many years of enjoyment.

Caption Conest for the Week of July 7 thru July 14. Votes counted up thereafter.

You are still allowed to vote with a like, even if you haven't entered yourself.

Submissions can be in any written form (no video or audio files) — caption, limerick, motivational, poem or prose — whatever inspires you to describe the photo or catch attention. Submit by replying to the thread. Contestants may submit more than one entry but it must be in a separate post. Important: Even if you do not submit an entry, please “like” any posts you feel deserve it as this is how the winner is chosen. And if you DO submit an entry, please also find an entry that you like from among your competitors' efforts and "like" that one as well.

The "thread starter" is the moderator and must post an original photo at the start of the thread. In case of a tie the moderator will choose one to break the tie. After determination of the contest's winner, that winner will be notified ASAP after by the current Thread Starter/Contest Host and will become responsible for posting the next original work to be captioned. Enter often, vote more often. Good luck and enjoy.

Well, I appreciate the votes and I shall have the next caption up in a few hours.....and when I first moved to the Philly area, I mispronounced Bala Cynwyd (the "C" is a hard K sound) and looked embarrassingly touristy when i stated where is Bala "Sin"wid?
In actuality Bala is a tony suburb of Philly in the main line area....

I enjoyed my K-3ii also, but after using my K-1 and my KP (size and speed in an APS-c), I decided to sell my K-3ii. After 5 years of light use (less than 8,000 snaps), I sold it for $700 -- I was surprised that a 5 year old camera kept its value but the speed and improvements of the newer bodies kept the K-3ii at home and saw no reason to not let someone else enjoy the Pentax way.

Yes. he is extremely fair to Pentax and unlike other 'sponsored' sites isn't looking to sell units, only looking at feature sets, quality of imaging et al. Exactly what photography aficionados are seeking.

Viva Pentax !!!!

How To Get The iPhone Generation To Give Real Cameras & Vintage Lenses A Try?

I was fascinated by my Grandfather's collection of cameras. He was a 'mid-century techie'. His home office was stuffed with "cool' things like a McIntosh Tube Amplifier, Garrard Turntable, Pioneer Speakers and a Bookshelf dedicated to his cameras; an old Rolleiflex, !930's era Leicas, Minox spy cameras, Nikon/Nikkormats, lenses, film cannisters, Polaroid Bellows cameras, Bell & Howell slide cannisters, Kodak 8mm film cameras, GAF projectors, et al.
It was a Disneyland of neat flashing and clicking and shapes. It was the past, future and present all in one.

When I was 8 years old, my Grandfather took me to the original Willoughby's on in New York City and bought me my first camera and taught me to use it. This created a life long love affair with the medium. In the early 2000's, I became enthralled with Pentax, starting with their early digital offerings and now have 5 Pentaxes, plus 6 Leicas, an Olympus and my Canon FTBn that I bought with my childhood savings.

Why am I relating this childhood anecdote (and why would I assume that anyone else cares)? Well, for me, I believe my grandfather realized I had a natural curiosity to his office and I was the only grandchild that showed an interest in the objects in his cherished office (an early man cave I guess) and he wanted to pass on the joy of photography, the thrill of developing one's efforts (he had a darkroom too). The infra red bulb, the ritual of the chemicals, the clothesline with the black and white pictures, the thrill of them coming alive in the wash basin....

My children watch me play with my camera kits (get your minds out of the collective gutters) and often comment on the different types fo lenses and exposures. My daughter's favorite is the Pentax 40mm pancake lens. She is amazed at the results coming from such a small lens and wonders why other sizes can't be shrunk (she likes the size of the Leica lenses as she has small hands).

Anyway, impressions last a lifetime....If you made it this far, thanks for reading....

I like the KP screen as well....SInce I previously stated I use a DSLR for stills and a movie camera for movies, I have no issue with Pentax these days. The AF in the K-1 series is fast enough for me to capture excellent sport images, while th 36mp FF sensor is more than enough for the largest blow ups moat amateurs need. Anyway....

I have a Samsung video camera that is the size of a SIGMA telephoto lens and provides high def video. I carry that in my camera kit case and when the need arises, I take perfectly clean video....I have never used my Pentax kits nor my Leica kits for video. In fact, i am glad that Leica has removed video from some of its cameras because it adds weight and unnecessary complications...cheers.

After two months of lockdown, here's what I've got:
1. Gashed tire--on top of everything else
2 Selfie with mask and lack of haircut
3. Shoe pile violating the proximity rules
4. Keeping the pantry stocked with essentials
5. Howard; probably the only member of our family happy to be quarantined.
I wish everyone god speed and safety. Nosilwitt thanks for posting some excellent photos, Noel: as usual your macro work is tremendous....I'll bring up the rear with my boring lockdown pics....Cheers.

I Need Help

I would buy it....I've had mine for 2 years and it's the best $400+/- lens I own. Sharp, accurate and a nice mini-zoom (APS-c) range of 30-60. Perfect to walk around with and significantly smaller than SIGMA's huge barrel lenses. Also, when used with my K-5ii produces excellent low-light detail....On the KP, it's a superstar.

Used copies can be had for less than $300 on e-bay; unfortunately, they rarely get posted in the PF Marketplace. Pentaxians know their good lenses and generally hold on to them.

Well, if you rely more on video than still photography out of your Digital DSLR, then I can only refer you to the old adage: "I'd rather eat in a bar than drink in a restaurant".

Good luck in the land of cheaply mass-produced NikOnyCan oligarchy jack of all trade bodies. For many of us here though, the camera and the still photo is the art of the deal.
