Both my 16-50 and 50-135 failed 4 years ago. On my K-30 they would just freeze up, or go only one direction and finally no movement at all. I was ready to have them converted when I just decided to put them on my K-5 with a fully charged D-Li90 battery. It woke them up! The 16-50 has fully recovered but I still put it back on my K-5 from time to time. The 50-135 needs waking up with the K-5 every month. It's been four years now and I'm still enjoying the silent sdm crossing my fingers.

Family stroll through downtown on January 1st. There was a lighted cubic structure just calling for us to take a picture. |

Many, many thanks Bernard! Comes to 418$ with taxes! I was looking for a fast 85 but this is still fast and has 1:1 macro.

Really like the 4k time lapse movie of the K-70, makes my life a lot easier for shooting meteors. This is one frame out of 800 (two movies) I did that night. |

Really like the black and white, the composition with the river is excellent.

Indeed but because of the slight motion blur, this advantage (and the extra megapixels)
is lost on stars. thinking about it now the K-S1/K-S2 and K-70 have 14 bit ADC while the K-30/K-50 have 12. This maybe an issue if you want to do intense histogram stretching as is normally done in deep sky post processing, the more information, the better.
Thanks for sharing this, your work is so inspiring! That "Timeless" picture is one of of my favorite nightscape ever.

I shoot the stars with K-70 and K-5 and I don't personnally find the extra megapixels of the K-70 all that useful. With the astrotracer there is always a tiny bit of motion blur (center frame stars are rarely perfectly round) So a K-30/K-50 makes more sense unless you can find a K-S1 for the same price.

I was out camping this weekend so I had minimal equipment with me, which means I didn't have my big and expensive Sigma Art 35/1.4. But the small DA35/2.4 is always there to save the day.

Comet Neowise (C/2020 F3) with the 16-50 @ 50 f/4.0. Blend of two 10s shots, one fixed for the foreground, one with astrotracer for the comet. |

Thanks! Nice one there too, love the composition. Complex blends are always tough, but I make the still shot with the exact same frame and exposure time as the tracer shot to facilitate the operation if that's any help.

Many thanks for your kind words! Glad my starscape has some meaning to you. I really feel my pictures are that of a passenger aboard a tiny spaceship looking out the window!

Nicely done, love those arcs but I always seem I mess them up, the horizon line doesn't align, sky color is even for most frames but not all even though WB is all set in Camera Raw... Bit jealous of your sky too, seems really dark!
Here's one from a Bortle 4 bordering 5 location, with the same lens with the Samyang badge.

Recently got a K-70 to upgrade from my k-50 and had a chance to test it under the stars. While I was preparing to shoot deepsky with my K-5 I let the star stream do its thing. Wow never has a tme lapse movie been so easy to shoot. Just needed to adjust the exposure settings before lauching it. The clip is composed of 200 shots of 15 s iso 800 with a 16 mm lens. This is a copy made with Windows photo which for some reason decided to pause for 5 s in the middle of it! I think you'll need to click to get to my flickr account to see the clip. |

Wow FA31 with K-1! That must be like the ultimate Pentax starscape kit! Your picture shows already great details in the MW. Imagine when it will be up and out of the light pollution!

Nice scenery. Funny how I was thinking the image was from somewhere in the Appalachian mountains of Quebec. Deep fertile valleys bordered by rounded tops.

The image I posted here is handheld so I did not use pixel shift on this one. At home on a tripod I compared images with and w/o pixel shift and was really impressed. But since the images come straight out of the camera I did not use any special software to process them.
Thanks! And thanks for the tip, nice to know.

Just grabbed a K-70 with 3200 clicks in the local adds for a good price. Very impressed with it so far. I also have a K-5 and a K-50 and wanted to taste the newer Pentax functions. Very impressed so far. Being able to set all astrotracer parameters in user mode is a big plus for me. Looking forward to trying startrails with it. Did a quick try of pixel shift and wow! it's going to make incredible 20" X 30" prints! Went to see a client this afternoon and took it with me. Just a quick handheld shot. |

I find this only works with bodies using the D-Li90 battery (K-3s, K-5s and K-7). On my K-50 a fully charged battery has never been able to revive them, though I never tried for more than 10 min. My 16-50 and 50-135 started showing signs of sdm failures four years ago. I've been "exercising" them regularly since then.
