Looking to purchase a Pentax K-r in 2020

Wow. This is a nice camera. I still use my K-X and the photos I have captured in the past, with the kit lenses, are amazing. The kit lenses are no slouch (not fast for low light) but stellar for daylight photogs.
Trusty motor driven focus and AA batteries for that price. Sure is a fun purchase.

Agree a 100%.
With FA* 24 and 85 in my bag. I don't need either. But I know I will spend on that D-FA*85. Will put my FA* on sale once I get the D-FA*. D-FA 21 is equally tempting. but will be next in line for the upgrade for me.

I rarely ever use the articulating screen on the K-1 unless I am doing a macro shot laying the camera and myself down on the bare floor. Yes it is very helpful then. But prefer the optical viewfinder almost always otherwise.

Did seem like it was f4. And I will be totally ok with that.
Imagine an equivalent of DA15/f4 on a full frame. Goose bumps.

1.05x magnification on the optical viewfinder just like a K-1. Slicker Pentaprism or whatever, Joystick design is different little bit. Viewfinder has a sensor to brighten or darken something.. A new battery grip. Better subject tracking..
No other info. :-(

WOW. This is a nice update to the much SDM riddled 16-50. And redesigned optical construction.
I only wish they will get to the DA* 50-135 soon.

Yay...!.
Much needed wide angle prime for the K-1. And its a limited series. So we all know what to expect.

Well.. now not surprised how stellar this lens is on all brands. Most people say it is better than their brand name counter parts. Love my copy too and my brand counter part is Pentax. LOL.

This is a good deal indeed. Like the fact that it is refurbished so the SDM motor may be a good version than the most riddled copies out there. I got one from KEH for this price with Tax. If I did not already have one I would get this DA* 50-135 in a heart beat. I adore this lens despite its temperamental SDM on my copy.

K-1II hotshoe mount broken

It did happen to my K-5ii once and flash was mounted and was hit by someone walking by when the flash was mounted... The metal housing of the show popped off with the flash that was a bit loose (very minor play if at all) to begin with. Had to send it for repair.
In your case it seems the camera went into a lot of stress on top of the hot shoe (got squished against an edge of a seat or the passenger bar in trains or the latches of an over head bin without you noticing it).
It is not easy to break it the way it is seen in the picture. It probably succumbed to a lot of pressure..

I have that 28mm and it surprises me at times for being an off brand. Dont know about other focal lengths or zooms. But that 28 is good.

KEH has been very un-attractive with their
1. Pricing on the used items.
2. Discounts they offer on sale events
3. Sales tax on the items (this pretty much kills it for me)
4. Equipment Ratings for the price.

EVFs and Eye Strain

This is true 100%. Eyestrain from an incident light (usually from the LED) are much harsh than a passive light into an OVF. I have had several image retention issues with EVFs and hate to use them. I know I am getting old but this will sooner or later cause trouble.

Back up is one thought.
I always have had pairs with 16-50 n 50-135 on my k-5iis
and 24-70 and 70-200 on k-1s mounted and ready to fire.
Second body is the way to go if it does not burn a hole. And an exact same or close is also highly recommend.. that means a k-3 is not a backup for k-1ii. A k-1 or a k-1ii is. So go for it.

The sensor is floating when the camera is powered up. Think magnetic levitation... When there is no battery or no power to the camera there is no levitation of the sensor that happens when SR kicks in and hence the sensor infrastructure is loosely laying in the body. Don't believe this is an issue. All IBIS cameras more or less exhibit this behavior.
There is a way to Turn the SR off and turn it back on. Try taking pictures in both modes.

To achieve an f2.8 or better on this wide an angled lens the size of the front element and the contributing elements won't remain the same and it will loose its charm as an almost pancake lens..

Printing photos or documents?

Canon Pro 100 is the best value for money when it goes on sale with a rebate if you need a photo printer. IF you need one for document printings.. there are a few that show up under $50 with started cartridges that last about a few hundred pages if not 1 thousand.

This... exactly this...

and then I start wondering what people are doing with so many focus points in their cameras when you really need one that does it fast and accurate. I am almost always using the Center Point or the one at the 3rd 99% of the times. yeah never Auto and never let the camera decide what to get in focus.

What am I missing? How do people really put to use 100 focus points to get good pictures when most of the times just one good cross type is enough. What am I doing wrong here? I find it way easier to get something in focus using center point and recompose than anything else.....
Really curious to know how having a zillion focus points is better than a handful of meaningful cross types. I really need to unlearn the technique that I am currently using cos they may be obsolete.

FGZ-540 and K1 strange issue

usually the contacts. I have my camera contacts get a layer of something at times... (something like it was kept in a humid situation for some time, although not). I have to deliberately clean each contact on the hot shoe (on the camera) to make it clean/shiny. This happens more on my K-01 often and sometimes on my K-5ii.
Flash wont be at the end of it with that behavior.. if the capacitor inside (which is the component that usually fails if not the bulb) is dying then it will just stop working or will recycle more often than it used to.

Exactly all of the above and ...

- Major video leap is my additional guess. But feel 50-50 about it because Pentax has not made this a priority for a long time.
- Some or a lot of GRIII features ported.
