Item for Sale
Lumix GX1 LVF2 viewfinder and 14-42ii lens

Asking Price
185.00 USD

Item Location
western Wash. state USA (United States)

Item Description
Black Lumix GX1 body with 14-42ii OIS kit zoom (silver) - in 35mm terms that's a 28-84mm.

The GX1 is an excellent little camera with 16Mpix 4Thirds sensor, an effective touch screen and many nice controls and programmable Fn buttons. Full controls are available including choice of aspect ratio.

I have hacked the body with higher-spec video but did not go all-out because the video will not play back if hacked to extremes; I have set it to about 40Mb/sec in AVCHD with higher audio quality but left MP3 specs at stock values (below 20MB/sec). The AVCHD format will spill over to a new file after it limist out so no real time limit for that mode. The touchscreen allows for manual focus with touch-AF refocus, so for basic 1080 work it's very handy. No audio input jack but stereo mics on top. OIS = stabilization is in the lens - adapted lenses work great but unstabilized. I can add a PK-m43 adapter by request.

When you want small and talented it's a great choice. The 14-42 comes with caps and hood.

Size comparison to KP at Compare camera dimensions side by side

Body is in VG+ and both lens is in EX condition.
I gave the LED screen a good cleaning. When I received the camera as it had the fungus-like sludge on the touchscreen. (sample image / thread at DPRvw) The screen is clean and much more useable than before, but some fine cleaning-scratches can be seen when screen is dark. Many threads online about GX1 screen 'delamination' or coating issues. Considering how it looked before this is a real improvement! I have not added a fresh screen protector at this point - it may help, or perhaps not.

The LVF2 viewfinder connects to the hot shoe and accessory port and provides a tilting viewfinder with very good specs. It has a switch on the mount so you can swap between main screen and viewfinder easily.

Camera comes with 1 Lumix + 1 generic/Wasabi battery, charger and strap plus body cap.

NOTE - I have two GX1 bodies, one with video hack and one without. I can provide hacked firmware and several variations on an 8GB SD if requested, and will sell either stock or hacked bodies. Both are black.

How is the 15mm in 1:1 mode? That square format is an underrated selling point IMO.

Probably the actuator business, sadly. Pentax gear reacts to long rest periods with the aperture-block darkness on some bodies and SDM coma with those lenses. In the short run you can shoot in A mode at f/22 so the shutter speed is calculated correctly (and bump the ISO up a bit) - and read about both near-term and longer-term solutions to aperture block here on the forums.

I really like the 20Mpx sensor of the K-s series so I will probably take on this risk myself, some day soon. :o

Hadn't seen one of these, but I've used the 17/4 fish-eye a few times with great success.
Enjoy! :)

I am also a fan of the lighter 12-60; light, cheap in kit-breakout sales and sealed. My ideal range for a long hike, and I can add my smc-M 100/2.8 or the 40-150 Lumix for longer shots.

Amazing color contrast too, wonder if that is part of the effect.
Very nice.

Good fortune today :) sunrise within 2 hours of the vernal Equinox, and clear skies to check alignment of our 'standing stone'! I must say that's almost squarely on the 1980 'update' to Mt. St.Helens summit. Tomorrow says clouds and rain, so this will have to do.

Good to know. I have a few good primes and tolerable 3624 zooms but would prefer shooting squares over pre-cropped 3:2 mode. But hey, I'm odd enough to consider shooting sub-36Mpx uncropped for times i don't want to repaper a wall in my home.?

We had an amazing sunrise a few days ago, I stood in dew to shoot it but walked back in frost. I look forward to toying with the raw file soon :)

GX1 and 45-150mm, cropped a bit. Mt. St.Helens is buried in those clouds.

My 1999 Sierra backpack was done with smc-M 40/2.8 and Program Plus, and nothing else*. Missed a few shots no doubt, and stitched a few..but it was an easy carry :)

Drat - images are working now, but they do not do the lens justice. Must scan/shoot the negatives and do these right one day ;)
1999 Sierra Trip summary

* edit - also brought a miniDV camcorder. The truly awful/tiny images were captured with that. :o

I have owned at least three copies of the quantaray 100-300 (also sigma DL) for/4.5-6.7 and been more than satisfied for under $50. It's fast to focus, much faster than the early 55-300s.. but slow to grab light, generally f/5.6 to ~260mm then f/6.7.

I'd figured they would pencil in the "ii" after K-1. :p
SR isn't the change as much as PxShift, which thus far has gone logo free. Maybe they'll make one up for another $100?
