Astrotracer Info Needed from Experts

For the moon, look up ďloonie elevenĒ rule.

A place to start for wide angle Astro Exposures is f4 iso 3200 for 60s - adjust accordingly.

For planets / stars figure out how you will focus to infinity... in the dark.. with no AF or confirmation aid. By the way - Astro photography works best with no moon. Check moon cycle tables.

Best advice for astrotracer is to get out there and use it. Expecting great results from an apparatus you have never used before is a bit unrealistic.

Curious how much the Firmware and mount update was. I enjoy this lens for sport and wildlife. A high value alternative to HD Pentax 150-450. Good luck on the sale.

Printing at home - what's the real cost?

Printing at home is about scale. If you donít use the printer it clogs and becomes a maintenance concern.
I try to run a couple of prints per month - even making donations to local fundraising activities.

The novelty of printing a few images to rotate through a half dozen frames doesnít justify the cash outlay.

For my busy lifestyle I do appreciate the convenience of not having run into the city or my local printer. It does take up a bit of space.

I use an Epson SC P-800. Itís a beauty of a printer. It is however limited to just 17Ē in width meaning I still have to send out my larger requests.

The printer and extra ink was a big cash outlay and then packages of media on top of that (and waste is the biggest impact to economics). Buying paper in bulk means I have $ tied up in future images not yet sold.

If I were to offer any advise... just send your prints out as you fancy them. Even if you donít like the result it will be such a small waste of $ compared to the thousands you have tied up in a printer.

Printing at home will spend the money you could be investing in MF glass ;)

Lens Profiles on K-1

Has anyone been doing any work creating lens profiles for lenses not in the default list from Adobe?

I've been doing a bit of shooting with F 28/2.8 and though its not offensive there is some distortions to correct.. I just have no talent at it. Any blog posts worth reading on "how to"?

Cheers
M.

K-5 IIs wont flash sync faster than 1/40s in M mode

I tried to use it as optical trigger for off camera flash set up in manual mode. (And was successful). It took some fiddling to reduce the exposure effect of the onboard flash and I was able to get it to work but I have adequate discretionary funds that i soon switched to radio triggers.

Having a flash shoot at 100% strength with only lens aperture control as a means to manage exposure is not my preferred option.

The fact you are capturing partially black and fully black frames between 1/40 and 1/180 would indicate a sync problem to me.

I shot plenty with K-5IIs + M / K series lenses.

As the pop up flash fired at full strength (it does not support TTL, just P-TTL) I only used flash photography with AF540 FGZ or AF360 FGZ in manual or A mode.

If you want to use the onboard flash with proper exposure you need at least A series lenses which communicate aperture to the body. With no aperture communication. You are expecting sync performance from an incompatible system.

---------- Post added 07-27-18 at 05:10 PM ----------

Just for kicks - if you still had the camera - I would make sure the flash settings in body were not set for second curtain. I would also try to rule out a shutter issue by doing tests in Hi speed continuous shooting through a full range of shutter speeds.

If you have boxed it up and shipped it back itís a moot point.

More of a commentary on the fact that there are plenty of people being people in that environment - Whether it is street or a documentary project, there is plenty to be had.

I didnt partake in such nonsense as a protest, but it was at this time when the new photo experience killed the previous feed format.

Several revisions ago Flickr had a robust groups based social aspect. Since the feed has changed it eliminates group from your feed. Meh.

As for 500px I agree with the remark above about tediousness. It did how ever have a different flavour with more studio photography and more polished landscape work. It then attempted to become more popular when Flickr faultered and it lost its soul.

Getty was using Flickr. Now they are using 500px. Just leads me to read that Getty made the move for better quality stock images and probably fewer cell phone snaps which appear to have taken over Flickr. Not that there is anything wrong with that type of photography just that itís not necessarily what Getty would want to buy / sell.
