anyone else constantly hunting for camera bags?

I only need two. One to carry the load for travel and a day bag. The day bag I take out for shooting the other is simply to get the most gear to where I am going on my back. My day bag is two to three lenses in size.

Takumar m42 500mm F4.5 lens adventure

I guess I am confused. The original M42 adapter doesn't have a flange and if you use the original adapter there should be no issue of infinity focus as long as the lens is correct in function. Someone fiddled with it and now you fixed the fiddling. There shouldn't be an adjustment needed to use it with an M42 adapter on a K-mount body if you have the correct adapter.

Aperture not changing Manual Lens

Push in the Aperture lever and see if they change then. If they do they your camera is not moving the lever. As mentioned it could be bent or it just might not work with the camera.

I generally use a pencil because most of my lenses are manual. I do not do a lot of lens changing so its really not much of an issue.

I would give the Takumar 24mm a try. It is a very lovely wide lens.

What are realistic expectations?

The expectations would be what ever your own creativity level might be. Anyone can be given a lens and camera but not just anyone might be able to capture an exceptional image with them. I can be given a hammer and a nail but that doesn't make me a good carpenter. Take your tools out. Use them, use them, use them. We sometimes rely to much on our tools and not enough on our own insight and vision or what we wish to capture. You have great tools.

Compare the 35mm against the 50mm on a crop sensor. You effectively getting 52 and 75 mm shots so while the 50mm would be better for portraits in that respect the 35 would be better for street and landscapes.

Anamorphic Lens for Pentax?

I have a Kollmorgen-Kosaka 2X Model KA298 F 1.9 I am planing on building a mount for to use with my K-5. I may be pairing it with a Helios 44-3 58mm or a Takumar 100mm lens. The 100mm seems to be a better fit. Photoshop can be used for any squishing you might need. While some may only think video with a lens like this I feel it is very short sighted to do so. Experiment, fail, succeed, maybe it will fall on your foot and you turn things over falling and find a lens you thought you lost. Who knows?

The point is if you do not at least try you will never know what you will get. It does work on stills. It just requires some out of the box thinking and some work ... cause that thing is heavy as ... LOL

safely removing fungus from Takumar M42 lens elements

This is exactly the mixture I use to clean fungus. Yes heavy fungus can etch the glass but 98% of the time this is not the case. I buy cheap fungus laden lenses on Ebay and clean them and resell them. Easy to do and you won't believe how little they go for because someone doesn't want to learn how to clean them.

Some detergents have chemicals in them that are not good for coatings and can cause micro scratches worse than a cloth.

I use a rubber face cup remover and a lens wrench to remove the class I have never had an issue using the mixture you are using ... ever. As mentioned above alcohol can be detrimental to some finishes and while it evaporates completely if you get it on areas and it removes lubricant you then can e left with sticking apertures unless you plan to lube them.

One of my most memorable lenses was a Takumar 50mm 1.4 for $2. All because it had fungus and no one wanted it.

Works like brand new.

Keep on learning and experimenting.
