To be fair to CRK, during the last 5 years they have offered a much more internationally competitive pricing on Pentax gear (excluding an odd variety of lenses) than Nikon and Canon who have only caught up in the last year or so. This was one of the major reasons I went with Pentax; I could get a decent kit (K7) locally at a premium of about $100 as opposed to the ~$500 on the 7D and ~$300 on D90. They do even better with Sigma lenses price matching any grey importer.

All LCD's are the same from calculator displays to computer monitors (not always at 90 degrees though). Bit annoying especially with the camera LCD but I tend to look through the viewfinder without glasses and just have to tilt my head down a little bit more to chimp.

Make it DA* and therefore weather sealed for about $800-$1200 RRP which would be consistent with the other DA* lenses. Honestly I really wouldn't care if it was 2.4 or 2.8 I just can't see such a lens being DA* sealed so wouldn't buy it.

Edit: and the only reason Pentax would make a manual focus lens is for a tilt-shift one, they definately aren't going to develop a regular manual focus lens.

This, definately this. Make it internal focusing and I would even pre-order this on a student budget.

Some great photos, I always love looking at this thread. The kookaburra one is something special.

Here's a couple more from the A50, first one was in quite low light at 1/15sec, f/1.2, 800iso and through the viewfinder so pretty happy how sharp it turned out, second one I used liveview for.

A couple from the weekend with the DA*50-135, first time I've used it on white-water and the sealing (and range) of it over the K series 300/4 was much appreciated.

A few shots from over the Easter break. My family has a little hut out in the middle of nowhere without power so nice place to relax for a few days.

How does DA21 compare to DA*16-50?

I'll also disagree. This was my second limited purchase after the 40 I got with my k7 and it is easily the equal of the 40. It's only weakness that I can find is the distortion which has a very good correction available in lightroom. It also has 7 aperture blades which makes in my opinion the nicest starbursts with 14 points.

The only reason I would get the DA* over it and a 31/35/40/43 would be the weather resistant aspect.

You again loose the 28-35 range but the A series 35-105 is considered pretty good as far as older zoom lenses go.

Yeah it's something I set and then leave for quite a while, ie mirror lock up remote for tripod work, continuous low for normal or continuous high for sport/anything else rapid fire.

The sense of movement the third one conveys with the curves is really nice.

Also as a side note if you're looking at any new lenses try and get one with 7 (or 9) aperture blades, they'll produce 14 or 18 pointed stars instead of the 6 points the 6 bladed aperture produces.

A lightweight prime kit, by Pentax.

The pentax DFA 100 f/2.8 WR macro is pretty small, especially without the hood.

I'm currently working on my mostly prime kits and I want to end up with both a portable (read hiking/rafting) kit and a single lens take out and use (mostly in the city) kit.

Portable: at the moment I have:
DA21 and DA40.
I want to finish it off with the DA15 and DA70. Hiking kit would ulitmately be lightweight gitzo tripod + DA15, DA21, DA*50-135 or DA15, DA21, DA40, DA70, DA*200.

DA*50-135 or DA*200 for rafting. Ideally an internal focus DA*26/27/28 f/2ish would come out.

Special: at the moment I have
A50 f/1.2
This kit needs FA31, DFA100 macro and DA*200

It's a work in progress but I hope to get there in the next 5 years or so.

20mm choices?

I recently got the 21 to go with my 40 and while I can't compare them to the 16-45 in comparison to the 18-55 kit lens I feel the improvement at the respective focal lengths with the primes over the zoom has the 21 quite a bit ahead (mostly because the kit lens is fairly decent at 30-40 range).

In comparison to images from the 21 to 40, I feel that the 21 is almost as good. Con: not as sharp all the way across the frame from base aperture, still getting used to the focal length, a bit of distortion. Pro: 7 instead of 9 aperture blades which gives nicer starbursts, nicer package with a slightly larger lens to adjust the focus and a much better lens hood/cap set-up (even after having it a month or so I still enjoy unclicking and clicking the lens hood in).

If you have lightroom 3 though the lens correction supplied for the DA21 works really well.

Went for a bit of a night wander around Melbourne and came up with these.

DA21. Really pleased with how the light burst stars turned out. I was under the impression that they were almost the sole preserve of the DA15 amoung the wide angle lenses.

Great shots. I much prefer the airplane shots where there is some of the environment in it rather than the jet fighter filling 90% of the frame photos and these two do that in spades.
