Repair of Nikon FE2 leather

It looks like you're right.

I found another photo online of the FE2 with that leather area removed and the shape of the raised "bumps" correspond to the shape of the covering here (the J shape).

Unfortunately I am not versed in removing / reapplying leather (or worse getting replacement piece if i were to rip the current one).

I may just see if I can find a sturdy flat object and overtime apply pressure to even out the lumps

Hi all,

I recently purchased a mint FE2 with the exception of some "bubbling" or "raised" parts of the leather near the self-timer button.

This looks like a common issue based on a few pictures I have seen for other fe2's being listed on eBay.

Any chance this can be flattened or fixed without reapplying a new piece of leather?

Also it's not as if the leather is "loose" . It looks to be hardened into that bump (it was like that already when I bought it)

I've added a photo for reference

Asahi Pentax S3 frame counter not advancing

Hi all,

I recently fixed my camera's stuck mirror issue and now I seem to have another problem.

My S3's film counter will not advance. It did for about a week after I bought it but now when I advance the film advance lever, iI no longer hear the 'click' where the frame counter is advancing by 1 unit.

I can sort of get around this by manually adjusting it by 1 after each shot using my finger nails and the 2 'buttons' on the counter.

Anybody know what may have caused this and what the fix may be?

I can see when i advance the film advance lever the little orange arrow is moving a little bit but it no longer follows through with the 'click' and the jump to the next unit.

Type of oil for lubricating mirror gears?

Eureka!

I used some Hoppe's Lubricating Oil (Gun Oil) from Canadian tire and used a pinhead to apply miniscule dabs around the suggested gear areas and so far no issues.

Will continue testing for a day with no film but it seems to work okay right now :)

Thank you all

Fair Point John.

Unfortunately right now I can't even unmount my lens to check because this lens has a little metal pin sticking out at the back. I feel it impacting something when i try to untwist (most likely the raised mirror?)

The oil/lubrication method seems relatively easy to try (as long as I can find the right oil)

Taken with a Asahi Pentax S3 and Auto-Takumar 55mm 1.8 on LOMO800 film.

Developed at London Drugs. Home-Scanned with Pakon F135+

I got this in my 1st roll with the S3 before the mirror got permanently stuck in the raised position. Still trying to self-fix it :(

Edit: And another

Hi all,

I recently purchased an aesthetically mint Asahi Pentax S3 from eBay.

The 1st roll I put through had absolutely zero problems.

Halfway through the 2nd roll my mirror would get stuck in the "raised" position at 1/30 and 1/60 speeds.

I would have to shoot another exposure to bring the mirror back down.

However after that roll, I tried to test the shutter at various speeds without film and now the mirror is permanently in the up position (with a blacked out viewfinder).

I found another post by a user on this forum recommending removing the 4 screws on the bottom plate and lubricating various gear components with oil.

Anybody have any idea what sort of Oil I should use that I could get from a local store?

I've heard Nyoil tossed around but I live in Vancouver, Canada and the price on amazon Canada ranges from $50 to $90 per 4oz 0.oo

If there is anything more mainstream that I could find in a local store that would be similarly effective I would be willing to try it

I must confess, this wasn't taken with the K-1 (because that would mean I would have to buy x2 K-1's) but she's definitely a beauty :D

So a 31mm Aps-c lens (which is 46.5mm equiv) becomes 93mm equivalent?

Sorry if this is the wrong category.

I recently ordered a K-mount to m4/3 adapter on eBay.

I have the FA 31mm and 77mm that I would like to use on my Olympus E-M5 mk ii.

I know the crop factor for APS-C is x1.5 so a 31mm is a 46.5mm and a 77mm is a 115.5mm.

What 35mm equivalent focal length will each of those lens be on the Olympus?

Will it be unchanged?

Fuji Photokina leaks

Over at photorumors, there's a post on what Fuji has brewing for Photokina.

Everything you need to know about the new Fuji products (X100T, X-T1 graphite silver, Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 and 50-140mm f/2.8) | Photo Rumors

Can't say it's anything too crazy.

Like the X30 announcement, the two cameras seem to be refreshes across the board.

The lenses are interesting but I balk at the price for a mirrorless lens.

Looks decent, though I wish they would have upgraded the sensor.

Bigger screen, better battery life, tilting display and removal of OVF seem to be the changes.

Sensor is still the same.

I would second the Ricoh GR.

It's flexible in a variety of situations and much more pocketable than the x100s. I wouldn't choose another camera that has interchangeable lenses if you already have the k-5 (I.e k-01)

Here are some photos I took at.a concert with the GR. I set it to program and a lot of times I wasn't even looking at the screen.

Went to the Armin Van Buuren Intense Tour in Vancouver last night. Took my GR since it could fit in my pocket and I could snap shots in between the fist pumping and jumping.

Amazing concert if you're into that kind of music.
