not knowing the situation when it was shot makes it a tad harder, but i feel that it could have been a little better if you had stepped to the right some so that the lady on the left was not cut off. then you would still get the framing effect on both her and the child, but they would both be in view.

in the cropped version, well i am a fan of natural framing so i really like the one with the child, the one with the lady lost all of its appeal (to me) when the natural frame went away in the crop. just my opinion anyways!

The photographer's eye by Michael Freeman is a great book on how to "technically" compose a shot. He does a good job of expaining what makes a photograph pleasing to the eye. From there you have a better idea of what it takes and know to look for it while you are out shooting. I feel that my photographs improved tremendously after reading it.

HAHA!! I love it! That way after I have borrowed the money from myself and a couple weeks have passes and I still can't decide, I can just keep both since I will have already gotten over the financial hit!

I am enjoying hearing the opinions, keep them coming!

I know i know, two totally different lenses right?? Heres the deal. I have a DA21 right now and I love it. However, I find that my style of shooting has me changing lenses alot (all of my descent glass are primes) and I am getting frustrated with it. It would be nice to get a GOOD zoom for these times. Of course I COULD wait (who knows how long) and just buy the sig out right, but how would I satisfy my LBA right now?? I would sure hate find out later that selling the 21 was a mistake!

What I am ultimatly hoping for is opinions of those who have or have had both and if they think that the sig can produce the same quality images as the 21. I know of the size differences and that isnt near as big of a concern to me that image quality is.

FINALLY, i get to post in this thread after drooling for some time now! my da21 came in yesterday, wasted no time putting it to use yesterday afternoon (last pic) and today (all the rest).

this one is so sharp i have to like it, wish i hadnt cut the rock off though

and the best part is that since it can be used on ap priority and autofocus (most of my lenses are taks) my wife can actually use it some

that is a good point, and while i almost never do portraits your message did point out that its probably not a bad idea to throw in my s-m-c tak 50/1.4

hmm.. currently have kx with da21ltd, dal18-55, dal55-300, s-m-c tak 35/3.5, 50/1.4, 200/4, preset 135/3.5, super tak 50/4 macro, sakar 28mm and a couple cheap zooms.

I am planning to sell off a few of these to get a 35 macro limited and/or a da15 ltd. then a lil bigma would give me pretty good coverage. if a k-5 replacement is annonced along the way then lenses will probably be put on hold

the more down to earth goal is to get a kit to cover most scenarios for traveling. da15ltd, da35ltd combined with my 21ltd and dal 55-300 should give me decent coverage a good quality for most commonly used FLs

you are right, a 21 or wider is next on the list...

as for the money idea. if i had 200+ lenses your method would work for me too:p until then, i just have to buy buy buy!

I dont know if it was supposed to be an arguement or not but I can tell you with full certainty that my composition has benefited from shooting with primes recently. I find that when i pick up the camera to "capture that shot" and see that it is too far out, as I am walking closer I am thinking about the shot and how I should compose it better. With a zoom, I would have picked up the camera, zoomed and snapped, mostly resulting in snap shot esque pictures.

Perhaps it should be phrased as primes force you to consider compostion whereas zooms allow you to shoot right away.

HAHA!! funny you should mention that... this mentality has cost me $$! I had a 28 and a 50 originally. too wide and too narrow for how i normally shoot, so i "needed" a s-m-c tak 35/3.5. after that i "needed" a tak 135/3.5, just today i "needed" a tak 200/4. and after shooting so many manuals i "needed" a canon ee-s screen!! did i mention this was all in the last month?? well i am back off to go hide from the wife!!

to the OP: there are lots of good deals out there, make good use of the lens review data base to guide you in your quest. Just keep an eye out for cheap lenses and go from there. IMHO 28mm was a bit too wide for a walk around, and 50 was too narrow. 35mm was perfect for me, so my advice would be to start there

Best screen ever for manual focus : Canon ee-S!!!

Well i cut mine down and installed it on my kx tonight. Keep in mind i have only been able to use it in the dimly lit house so far. At first I didnt like the plain viewfinder. Having come from a split prism screen from an me super in the very low light i found it harder to hit focus than with the split prism. Under the light though it is excellent!! After several practice attempts i have gotten better with darker shots, and when the subject is better lit i can focus in almost half the time. In the kx I ended up using no shim at all. The ees screen is .071" thick and the stock screen with the shim was like .068" thick so if anything i would have to somehow remove some. I did a test with some grid paper at 45* and 18" away with my 50/1.4 and it seemed as close to spot on as could be (some shots were one or two grids ff and some were 1 or 2 grids bf. I will say it is MUCH brighter in low lit conditions than the me super screen i had before!!
