Yes it is.
Best 28mm I have ever tried and the best Pentax glass as well.
Nice shot!

Well. It depends on what you want to achieve.

Like Jean suggests you can go the easy way but you wont get infinity or anything near that. Good for macro and close focusing thoug.

I wanted the Fd to work like any old Pentax lens with infinity and aperture control and that takes a lot of time to figure out.

adapters for non-K-mount lenses to Pentax K-mount DSLRs: new dimensions for LBA

Unfortunatly that isnt really possible without glass in the adapter.
I worked around that by building my own conversion. Those FD lenses are great!
Here are images shot using various FD lenses on my Pentax dslr ( K5 and K3)
Unfortunatly I didnt get the lens names to display correctly.

Thank you.

I removed the original mount and used one of my own custom made Pentax Bayonettes. It fits the canonlens and infinity isnt a problem.
I havnt made the aperture control yet but I will as soon as possible. Working on a new implementation of the aperture levers but I need some special tools to get it done proper.

Im travelling to Warzaw tomorrow morning and the only lens I will bring is this 20mm. Should be perfect in the city.

About your Sigma.
It might be a difficult one to convert. Wideangles are generally much tighter in distances and zooms are even harder. Yours is a combo of both but its impossible to tell before investigating it.
Try open it up and take some photos and maybe messure the distances around the mount?
Maybe we can help?

Heres my new love.

A Canon FDn 20mm F2.8, converted to Pentax K-mount.
This shot is taken wide open handheld over a fence. I had to stretch my arms as high as possible.
I just might get back to that location........ :)

I recently modified an older Canon FD 55mm F1,2 so that it works like a K or M lens on Pentax DSLR.

The modification took several days since the margins are so very very tight and Im afraid it could have looked much better if I had more time and better tools but it at least works well and should last a long time. Its a joy to use and of course focus to infinity.

First is a poor shot of the modded lens. You can see the Pentax arm that connects to the cameras aperture lever.

Then some shots with it, both full frame and 100% crop.

Then some straight shots just to look at the rendering.

Unfortunatly this lens was for someone else so I need to get one myself. In the mean time I guess I have to satisfy myself with my Canon FD 85mm F1,2 ...

Love this lens. Stuck on my camera.

Heres from a walk in the woods.

Some LR colour and light tweaks + cropping.
Click on it for bigger size and more from that trip.

I havnt been able to convert FL to Pentax with with working aperture yet but it should be possible after a lot of hard work completely destroying the original FL mountbase.
FD (New versions) are a lot easier since the original mount can be saved and even completely reverted back to the original mount if needed.

Not sure about optical differences but I have a 35/2 FL that seems to be wonderful.... and heavy with a lot of gorgeous feeling.
My 35/2 FD New is incredible light (compared to the older one) with perfect optics and so is my 20/2.8 and of course the 50/1.4 and many other.

If you want to I could possibly convert a lens for you and then ship it to dcshooter for a delicious "paint job" :)

Hahaha

He was very tame I think. Spring is here and around this lake the birds get feeded by hoards of strawlers equiped with bread and what not.

I will try it reversed when the bugs crawl up from their hidings. The resolution is fantastic and the rendering very nice. Paid about 50usd for it. Well worth it :)
Will be glued to the K3 for a while.

Finally joined this club.

Found a K 28mmF3.5 and tested it yesterday.
Never thought I would be able to use a 28mm lens as a bird lens but heres the proof :)

First is the full frame and then a crop of that.
EDIT: Added a 100% crop as well.
Just some Lightroom sharpening added.
Shot using my K3

This lens is a true gem! Click on shots to getter bigger versions.

Aah. I have done similar attempts :)
Would love to see the mount.

Maybe I should have a second look at that 35/2 I have.

Very very nice work.

How did you get the Pentax mount on the FL with right distance?
I did have a look at converting a 35/f2 FL lens but didnt think it would be worth the trouble since its so different from the newer FDn lenses.

If I ever get the parts ready I will but it has been difficult mostly since I have to rely on a machinist who lives far from me.
I can convert various FD lenses but every lens is slightly different in the mount so every lens needs 1 or more parts customized.
My goal is to get the mount and main mechanics to work on most FD lenses and then customize the necessary parts for each FD lens.
The biggest problem is the screws. Its easyer if I skip them and make new threads for slightly bigger, modern standardscrews but that also means I need to make the modification myself and the customer then would need to send me the lens. I have been trying to find a good costeffective way to get around that part but its difficult.

I wont give up thoug :)

Maybe we can do a trade of some sort anyways.

Aah.

This sounds like something possible to do at home.

A shopping-list would be something like:

Carbattery
Wires
Wireclamps
Plastic bucket for the bath?
"acid electrolytic solution" ?? Orange juice? :o
"aluminum cathode" Is that just a piece of aluminum hooked up to the Negative?

Sweet!

How do you do the anodizing ? Is it difficult to do?
Would love to try and fix some of my lenses. Especially my old Canon FDs.

Ty Jean.

Been working on the project (the Cantax Project ) ;) and got a bit closer.
Almost got all the parts now but manufacturing them is hard.
Precision is down to 1/100 of a mm. The tools need constant readjusting from wear and tear.
Heres a shot of the bayonette manufacturing processes. First turning and then milling.
I shot them using my FD L 80-200.

Click on the image to get to the rest of them in a slideshow.

Will do!

As an update.
I have created the screws needed for the conversion. It took some time but finally the biggest obsticle is conquered.
In late Jan and Feb I will hopefully get the last pieces ready for show and test.
It is very exciting and great fun to be able to take this project further and further.

More news soon.

Oh. THnx. That lens is really fantastic. Going to Marocco next week and the only lenses I will bring are my FD 50/1,4 and my FD 20/2,8. Perhaps Ill bring the FD L 80-200 as well.
Ill see if I cant cet some 3d'ish captures with those :)

Quick action? Not following but the blurred back is really interesting. Is it 2 exposures blended somehow?

Lol-
Thanx.
Whats your situation on the developing then?
Trying on your own or looking for someone that can do it proper for you?

I imagine you would want a really good old fashioned developer and not the quick machines they use?

Finally got time to test the camera.
Exposure compensation seems to work perfectly and so does Auto, mirror lockup, DOF check and use with a modern flash ( Metz 58AFII)
The ASA dial is tricky but I could change it so it seems to work even if its the worst part on this camera.
Really strange design on that one.

I pointed my K5 using a SMC 55/f2 on a white wall and snapped of an image. THen moved the lens over to my K2DMD and set it to the same and Auto and times looks the same.
In this case it was 1/80 ISO400 F6.3
What was odd was that my K5 underexposed A LOT so I had to change it from 1/320 down to 80 to get a good exposure. Lucky me I have a K3 on the way....

If I cant sell this one I might just keep it and get some film.
