Dedicated Body for Wildlife

delayed for a bit.....

Anyway..... I'll stick my neck out....

I doubt, at this time, anyone looking to get into wildlife photography would choose Pentax unless they are already invested in some significant form (ie own and use a K3/K1 etc)....

And the best advice is always to get to know your prey and position yourself to win. Gear is secondary.... potentially third in the list. The other thing that I reckon goes to first place is.... to be present and connected in appreciation of all around you.... if you cant see and feel the beauty and wonder.... how can you capture it?

Good thing is that this sorta takes care of itself..... soon I'll most likely not be recalling that I can't remember. This can be annoying to those you live with off course..... but that is why our hearing is designed to go at about the same time.

Generally.... I'd let it go.....

Can only be a poor choice of word.... or an intentional bit of sensationalism.

I heard that Ricoh decided (a few days ago) to bring forward the release date of the new 645zii..... but to do this they had to reassign some of the stock of K3iii parts to do this....... then I woke up.

What your favorite coffee brand and coffee machine

6 or 7 years ago I moved from pop corn makers to a full bespoke mobile roasting centre....... can roast up to 800gms or so at a time (a bit under 2lbs).

This impressive engineered machine consists of............ a cleaners trolley, bread maker, hot air gun and an old duct fan (... a full bespoke mobile roasting centre sounds so much better doesn't it?)

Anyway.... the hot air gun temp can be set digitally..... 540 to 580c seems to work best (cold days to warm days)..... the bread machine is only used to stir the beans (I made a metal paddle for it.... plastic ones do what plastic does at 500c).... once beans are done.... drop them into a metal colander and cool in front of duct fan. The duct fan sucks the acrid smoke and the chaff during roasting and presents it to your neighbours (I do all this in the driveway).... one can wait for favourable wind conditions to target "select" neighbours. Generally.... no point being a bit quirky without being a bit evil from time to time.

Like you.... I roast by sight and sound.... two batches each time.... a blend for me and a decaf for wife.... only ever stuffed up one batch when I got distracted.

Each 3 weeks or so I roast a Columbian water processed decaf for my wife..... and if wanting a coffee after 5pm or so will have a cup myself. It is surprisingly good.... but in general.... I'm still a caffine junky. Generally I just roast it to the start of the second crack to get a medium/dark roast.

The KP Battery Grip

Mmm... I like the KP 85.65% of the time with just the medium grip. I hold it like a KP not a K1 or K3 or K5. It is special.

Anyway... I bought the Battery grip for the other 14.35% of the time when I use it sorta like a K1, K3... etc you get the idea.... however.... I still leave the medium grip on when using the battery grip.... just easier and doesn't matter much.... saves 100 heart beats as well for other things (that's like 90 seconds american)

Now try as hard as I can..... I'm yet to work out how to make a K1, K3 and K5 handle like a KP.... so.... see how special the KP is?

My Australian KP came with a small grip (late 2019). I bought a battery grip from the US (Amazon.... $210 delivered).

I also bought a medium grip at some stage.

I was only thinking a few weeks ago that our house ducted vacumm might need a set of new motor brushes (last lot gave us about 6 years.... 5 years ago or so).... so I orded a set. Didn't post about it here when they arrived .... because having spare vacumm brushes.... whilst giving me some comfort.... might be seen as a bit weird. My wife is a cleaning junky.... so first thing I do when we swap houses is install a ducted vacumm.... before a wood fired pizza oven even.....

Swapping motor brushes is pretty easy.

Do you go "bush walking" with the 150-450 and 560 at the same time? ..... if you have worked out a way to do that then I might have a new lens in my future....

To me.... it is sorta like holding a K1000.... anyway I've played with all 3 grips (they didn't come with the KP... had to buy them).... anyhow.... medium for me..... now trying to just leave the medium on when I add the battery grip .... which I use about 50%of the time.

PENTAX K-8 ? K-1 Mark II successor... What will it be/look like?

If Pentax are designing the next FF K for me (an ageing pentaxian... I guess).... then it will have a 10MP sensor (ageing eye sight) and.... a really loud shutter (age related hearing loss).... maybe a house and car key finder (maybe a glasses finder as well)..... be fluro orange..... and maybe a one touch "yes dear" button that sounds sincere.

PS... if it had a anti snoring noise cancelling function.... then.... well.... they could charge leica prices for it.... and no video will be needed.... because a burst of 4 images is likely to capture all action.... and audio isn't needed.... mostly because it would be out of sync anyhow.... and any names spoken would be wrong initially.

a lot say US... but if asked?

I just got mine out (had it over 5 years now) and looked at the rear felt.... one needs a lot of light to see it.... but mine would be similar.... but at normal viewing in natural light you don't see anything.... probably about $2k AUD landed here.

She has a K1 for sale as well... from reading some of her posts I assume she's going for something lighter.

The "grip" is nice when using tele's for extended periods..... or any long session considered shooting. Thats one of the good things about the KP.... it can be small..... or with a grip it can be almost normal.....
