They're still hard to find around here. I'm 70 and eligible but still can't get a shot appointment. I'm NOT traveling anywhere to get one, either.

I think a lot of people haven't experienced the supply chain issues happening worldwide. I work for a very large foodservice company. We have several late model Freightliner trucks parked because there are no brake pads available. Yep, that's brakes, not custom electronics. And since disc brakes on big trucks are a relatively new thing, the aftermarket can't keep up either. A search showed no parts in North America. I'm not surprised to hear camera manufacturers are having problems.

I was thinking the same thing about where I live just south of the border in NY but I really like the idea. Our little village alone has several plow trucks of different sizes and a large snowblower for downtown that fills up a dump truck in quick work. It's nice to put humorous names on an unpleasant task.

I'm guessing it will be quite a while before I can get one even though I am currently eligible due to my age. Way back, they were saying that once a vaccine got approved, it would take months to get people vaccinated. I don't know why everybody gets the idea people can get the shot right away. It takes time and care to make it, ship it and store it. I'm a little leery of being a guinea pig. Anyhow, I'm due to get my second pneumonia shot which I will get soon.

My first was a Fuji FinePix point and shoot. I don't remember the model. I handed it down to one of my kids. The photo quality was awesome and it wasn't long after that I made the jump from film SLR's to a DSLR, the Pentax K10D.

In Lake George, NY, I highly recommend Gaslight on Canada St (Rt 9, the main drag). It's reasonably priced, great service and a friendly atmosphere. A short distance away off the main drag on Dieskau St. is Bebob's Backstreet BBQ. They cater mostly the the motorcycle crowd but it's very laid back, very old school and has local live entertainment playing almost every night and non bikers and families are always welcome. As the name implies, BBQ is the main menu. Both places have a bar and are open year around.

Every Apple product I have owned has lasted well past the point where it has become obsolete. I'm using a 5 year old Mac mini. I have an 8 year old iPad that still works fine. I upgraded to an IPad Pro last year because some of the apps I needed would no longer run (like my car insurance app and a couple of banks). I still have a perfectly usable but obsolete iPhone 5s in a drawer somewhere. It got used for a while last year when my wifes Android phone died until we could get another phone. Down in the basement is an Apple lle we used decades ago back in the 80's. I played with it a couple of years ago. It would start up fine but the floppy drive wouldn't read anything. I have an Apple Watch also. It's a series 3 and still current. It's an excellent smartwatch but sucks as a serious exercise tracker so I rarely wear it anymore in favor of a Garmin Fenix 6.

I was advised by my doctor to start taking it about 8 years ago when the bloodwork during a routine yearly physical showed I was deficient. People who live in the northern latitudes need to supplement themselves with Vitamin D as we aren't outside enough all year around to absorb UV light through exposed skin to naturally produce it. Darker skinned people need even more as they absorb even less. On top of that, there are people in the medical community who discourage exposure to sunlight. It may solve one problem but creates another as our immune systems are weakened if we are Vitamin D deficient. I recently read that Great Britain realized this and are now giving seniors Vitamin D.

Nobody likes to admit it but most of us have done it. I had coffee splashed on a lens once and cleaned it with spit and my T shirt. No scratches and it worked.

The pneumonia shot is lifetime. It a 2 shot vaccine. I got the first one last year before covid was in the news. I have always gotten a flu shot. I will get the second pneumonia shot. A lot of what is killing people who get covid is secondary infections. I take large doses of vitamin D and C also. It one of the best things you can do right now. The majority of people who get seriously ill from covid are vitamin D deficient.

I suppose the bottom of my shirt is a no-no right? LOL Since I wear glasses, I always have some liquid cleaner and microfiber wipes handy. I use the Carl Zeiss lens cleaner available in any drugstore for $4.95. I have had a couple of air bulb/brush cleaners for years. They were always a common item back in the days of camera stores. I have to admit to not being overly fussy about cleaning my lenses until I look and say "Oh crap, I got to clean this".

I'm a little leery of this one. I'm not an anti vaxer. I have had my flu shot and am scheduled for my second pneumonia shot next month. I'm not a health care worker but I am still working part time at my job as a truck/trailer fleet refrigeration mechanic for a foodservice company. We are considered essential although I was furloughed for 4 months as most of our customers were closed or opening with a very limited take out menu. Around half the work force was laid off and over a third of the fleet was parked. Most of the stuff that broke down was just parked. I'm 70 so that makes me somewhat higher risk but I still haven't made up my mind. I'm especially going to avoid the Moderna shot. A rushed vaccine from a company who has never had an FDA approved medicine until now and has no manufacturing capability and plans to farm out production? Nope!

I haven't received any mail at all since Wednesday. Probably weather related. I didn't expect them to be out on Thursday as most of the roads were impassible until late afternoon. Yesterday was beautiful and the roads have been cleared so I'll probably end up with a mailbox full of junk today. I did get a FedEx delivery.

I'll agree with Mark, I think it's a late 40's - early 50's police Servicar. The springer front end puts it in that time period. Too bad the back end is cropped out. There were some 2 wheel springer police bikes made in that period and some old pictures showed a large flat radio box directly behind the rider.

How to use a roundabout (also called a traffic circle)

They have become the new "big thing" here in upstate NY. Maybe downstate, too but I don't go there often. It is supposed to cut down on pollution and traffic jams at intersections. Some of the circles have made good sense where they are located, others, well I'm skeptical. One of note is the exit 12 area of I87 north of Albany. To get on or off the interstate or head east or west on Rt 67 as well as enter/exit an office complex and shopping center, there are 3 linked traffic circles. For people who drive it everyday, it's a pain in the ***. For the unlucky out of towner, who got off looking for gas or a meal, it's a drivers nightmare as you can drive through the crazy figure 8's a few times if you aren't in the right lane. And just when you think you're finally safe and made it to the Rt. 9 business district 1/4 mile away, you come to another one.

Since you're using an Apple tablet (iPad I assume), consider a Mac Mini. The newer ones have plenty of power and take less desk space than a laptop although you will need a monitor. I'm a senior also and I like a large screen. I'm using a 24 inch LG IPS monitor. It will sync easily with your iPad. You can also get a NUC if you if you want to stay with a PC. Regardless, make sure you go with SSD's and not hard drives and use an external for extra storage and/or backups

Or, you can stay with a laptop. They do have some some advantages but since you're using a tablet for trips, you're ignoring the biggest advantage a laptop has over a small footprint desktop.

I'm a biker and I see it all the time. You have no protection and even the most minor of collisions can cause life threatening injuries. Over the years, i have seen the driving public get worse and worse. People don't pay attention. Speed limits are ignored for the most part, as are double lines on 2 lane roads. I was hit on my Harley in 2016 by a guy who made a left turn in front of me. I saw it coming and swerved as much as I could. He hit the saddlebag behind me and I went down with minimal injuries, although I did get an ambulance ride out of it. Last year, a guy pulled out from a stop sign right in front of me. I slammed the brakes on and cranked the steering wheel but it wasn't enough although it probably saved the guys life. I hit his car right behind the drivers door. I was going 55 when I hit the brakes. I don't know how fast I was going when I T-boned him.

This year has been even crazier. Like many, I haven't been driving as much but I have seen far more crashes and people doing really stupid stuff on the road. I think people are just running through stop signs knowing that with little traffic, nothing will happen. Twice, I have been stopped at red lights and been passed! I have put under 500 miles on my bike this year. I've gone to a few events but not really just going out for a fun ride because it's becoming too stressful.

One other thing that crossed my mind are the roads themselves. How good are they where you are going? Unpaved roads or poorly paved roads would be another good reason to consider a truck like the Hi Lux or a 4Runner over a car because of the beefier suspension and even more important, ground clearance.

Towing a trailer is kind of a pain and doesn't really replace the convenience of a pickup truck although the trailer does have value. Even many truck owners also have a trailer. I've been a mechanic for 45 years. My choice if I was going to Africa would be the Toyota Hi Lux (Tacoma here in the US). They are rugged and parts are available anywhere in the world. When I visited the US Navy Seal museum in Florida a couple of years ago, they had a Hi Lux on display that had been used in overseas operations. They buy them retail wherever they are and outfit them with their military necessities. The retired Seal I was talking to said they are better than anything they could bring over.

It's been quite a while since I posted here and honestly, a good while since my camera has been out of it's bag. But comet Neowise has been a good incentive to take some shots. Night skies aren't really my thing but comets are a rare oppurtunity not to let pass.
K5, DA 50 1.8, f/2.2. ISO 1600 at 8 seconds. I'll be making some more attempts if the weather permits.
