Pentacon six w. Biometar 80, Portra 400. There is slight stain of light leak on the bottom, probably from wrong handling of the negative.

I have the Biotar 50/2 back from cleaning so I could finally test it on K2 body. It works fine, just like the Tessar 50/2.8

How can i use a zeiss lens on a spotmatic?

Great thread, it caught my attention because I have recently acquired few of the early M42 CZJ lenses and intended to use them on my SPF. The eary "skinny" variant of the Tessar 50/2.8 just returned from CLA, the mentioned Biotar is still in the works. However, the early Tessar lens does have the same shroud attached to the rear of the lens, protruding in the same way as it does on the Biotar. So I tried to mount it on Pentax (Honeywell - Heiland) H2 camera first and although it does fit flush, the shutter does not fire. There is some blockage inside.
Then I got the idea to mount it to my workhorse K2 via M42 Pentax adapter. And voila! It works, it clears the mirror and all the levers inside.

regarding the early Helios being Biotar copy. Yes it is - the optical formula, but the mechanics is different.

Hope this helps.

interslice kits

I have used several Interslice kits to reseal few Minolta SRT bodies and few Nikon F2 and F3 bodies in the past. The stuff is very good. But lately I bumped into Cameradoctor.de seller on the Fleabay and find his kits equally excellent. It is amazing how much care and attention it takes to prepare each of such kits.
The main difference between Interslice and Cameradoctor is that the later uses self-adhesive foam strips for the main light seal (backdoor).

K1000 or ME super?

Both cameras are fantastic, provided you will get them in good condition or have them serviced. However, the K1000 being fully mechanical with no automation, it will force you to think more about the exposure. That is not a bad thing at all, however the ME Super additional automation also have its merits sometimes. It depends on what and how you want to photograph. The viewfinder of ME Super (same as of the ME I believe) is slightly nicer than the older K1000. But on the other hand, some prefer the K1000 match needle exposure indicator over the ME Super LEDs. When it comes to reliability, both will serve you fine if you have them serviced.

Do you have an ME?

I would say it all depends on the way you take photographs - do you need the full manual mode? I have both, ME and also ME Super. Love the small size and nice viewfinder with shutter speed indication (on both of them). I find the exposition compensation to be enough to give me quick control of the exposition, except maybe some specific situations. But then I prefer to use Spotmatic or K2 over ME Super. However, it does not happen all that often.

Item for Sale
Nikon Nikkor-S 50/2 transitional model (rare)

Asking Price
225 EUR

Item Location
Prague, Czech Republic (EU)

Item Description
From my Nikon days I still have one last lens in my "collection". It is the somehow rare transitional Nikkor-S 50mm f/2.0 lens with earlier 9-bladed aperture (cca 1960-61). The lens is in excellent condition with original vintage Nikon caps and suitable Nikon lens hood.

This lens is same as the earliest "tick-mark" Nikon F lenses sans the tick marks. But the lens still have 9-bladed aperture compared to the later 6-bladed variant of Nikkor-S 50/2, which was very shortly replaced with cheaper and simpler Nikkor-H 50/2.

This Nikkor-S 50/2 would be mostly appreciated by Nikon F collectors and enthusiasts, it mates well with early 1960 64xxxxx Nikon F camera bodies. Image-wise the early Nikkor-S 50/2 is the best 50mm from Nikon ever made, somehow similar to Leica Summicron 50/2 in the general image appearance and feel (contrast, "roundness", dimensionality...).

Condition of this lens is excellent, focusing is light and smooth, aperture precise, dry and snappy. Optics is clean, MC layers with no blemishes.

I would prefer to trade this lens for either 58mm Takumar M42mm lens (58/2.0, 58/2.4) or early 8-element Super Takumar 50/1.4 or for some other interesting M42 lens.

ISO - The New Digital Camera Marketing Tool?

The choice of images published by Amateur Photography magazine is representing only fragment of all photographs currently made. Many photographs are produced for totally different purpose than be published there. High ISO is often crucially useful in reportage and documentary genre, which is not the mainstream published by AP magazine (I suppose). Sometimes having any picture is more important than have "really good" picture :)
The same goes for film material. How many 1600 - 3200 ASA films are sold compared to 100 - 400 ASA? Those who are using them know exactly why they do so.

Unless the film was exposed to light you will get the images out of it. The final result is depending on many variables, but hey - letting the lab develop and scan you film is not that expensive. And there may be some surprise for you in those old images too! :)

Item Description
Up for sale or trade is legendary SMC Pentax 105 /2.8 K mount lens.
Mechanically the lens is wonderful, optics is clean BUT the front element does have some spots and scratches on it - please see the included image.
I am using the lens and do not see any effect on the images (please see the links bellow). The SMC Pentax 105/2.8 is one of the nicest 105mm lenses I have tried! Pitty the imperfection on the front element, but it is still fantastic lens to use and is available for bargain price!

Lets start with selecting the 125X mode again. If that does not help and the mirror does not flip back down, then take the camera for repair.

The ME Super is battery dependent camera with electronic shutter - unlike its fully mechanical brother Pentax MX. Without batteries is available the 1/125 and B.

I Hope that set of fresh batteries will bring your ME Super back to life, this camera deserves to be used :)

Good luck!

ISO - The New Digital Camera Marketing Tool?

High ISO is the main reason why I take the DSLR over film camera at some situations.

I am talking about really low light scenarios, where I dial ISO 3200, 4000 or even 6400 and still have slow shutter speed!
Obviously, the image quality is reflecting the limitation of camera sensor and software, but better to have fully usable although compromised quality than nothing.
In fact, the even more improved high ISO performance will be the main reason to further upgrade my current DSLR (Canon 5D II), because it is doing just fine in every other department I need.

The 125x mode is for shooting with flash (sync speed 1/125 sec). For normal shooting use the

A mode (Aperture priority where you set the aperture on lens aperture ring and the camera computes adequate shutter time for that lens opening and film speed) or

M (fully manual where you set aperture on the lens aperture ring and shutter speed by the + and - buttons on your ME Super top plate)

And yes, while the lens is attached to the camera, the aperture will not physically close until the actual exposure actuated by shutter button. It is called automatic aperture and it was the big invention in SLR world back in late 50s :) Thanks to that feature you can set your desired aperture and still have fully bright viewfinder to watch thru and comfortably focus & frame.
