Can someone explain this memory card discrepancy

I'm using raw and a 128GB Card and a 256 GB card both sandisk
The camera reports

3220 Pictures for the 256 GB Card and
1612 Pictures for the 128GB Card

Both card work fine, the small one for 3 years, the big on for nearly one year.

The sizes are consistent with the values read in my pc and the calculation with the file sizes. (typically 46 MB per raw picture, this is the average value from 32000 picures)

In jpg I get 11124 pictures for the big and 5572 for the small card in the highest quality, but I don't use this format.

Your shown value for the 64 GB card are wrong, it must be 808 for raw and 2799 for jpg, I've tested it with a card from my k3.
With a 32 GB card you get 402 for Raw and 1394 for jpg, I've tested it with a spare card from my k3

The real values for the picture count are round about 60% higher as shown on the camera display.

Are you sure that you get real cards and no fakes? There are a lot of fakes around. It seems as if you got such.

try using exiftools ( ExifTool by Phil Harvey ) it is the de facto tool for working with picture metadata. I'm regaining my exif ant iptc information with two batch-scripts, which fit my needs.

Max SD memory card capacity?

I'm working with 128 GB cards, because I've a lot of events with 1000 to 1500 pictures at one session (Concerts). And I'm working with raw. These sessions are bigger than 64 GB. But the cards get copied immediately after the session to a computer and get a backup. I don't want to have a full card midst in a series, and I don't like to exchange cards on a free air event like "Rock am Ring", or "Wacken open Air". And I'm using cards von well known vendors baught by a reliable store. The write speed must not be above 45 MB/sec because the K3 write with roundabout 35 und the K1 with roundabout 25 MB/sec (Yes the K1 ist slower than the K3).

It's correct when you shoot, the Iso in the TOP window is exchanged by the numbers of pictures estimated to be free on the aktive Card

Battery in the K-1: how long does it last?

With my K1 the GPS is allways on, but I don't use WiFi and it is switched off. I rarely check pictures in the view mode. The camera goes to sleep after 1 Minute without action. I'm using the battery grip, setting the camera to use the grip first. I never use the mode where the camera decides which battery to use. Therefore I know when the first battery gets empty and I could easily exchange the battery in the grip. But normally I don't have to exchange the battery even on a three hour concert shooting with roundabout 1500 pictures using AFC-mode and Hi-speed picture rate with the Sigma 70-200 2.8.

I do not think there are a lot of cameras with this capacity on one battery. This camera is not power hungry. My k3 and k5 habe nearly the same numbers

Acceleration Chip (K1mkII, KP and K70) - What's the Difference

In my opinion it is a signal processor, which is in the loop after the sensor before the Main-Processor, there may be some inputs to the signal processor to get information on ISO Settings and things like that - maybe that this are the signals that are send to the sensor, therefore it may be hard to find a way to set it to do nothing.

Hi Reh321, i don't think, that you have a chance to break in. I assume that only little Information is send from the prime IV to the acc-chip and for the rest the acc-chip is participating on the signals send to the sensor. And the sensor signals are passing thru the acc-chip before seen by the Prime IV.

1200 is quite normal for me with one pentax battery with my K-1, but I'm nearly not using the LCD and the camera goes to sleep after one minute.
My youngest is about 3 years, 3 others are more than 5 years no difference

SD Cards for K1.....

I'm doing a lot of photographs on concert's. There a total of 1500 pictures at an evening is quite normal. I filled up 64 GB Cards several times using the second card, and I don't want to think about wether both cards will get filled. Therefore I'm using 128 GB cards, none of them I got filled during one session.

Recently there was a real cheap advertisement for this 256 GB Card from sandisk and I give it a try. It works fine.

I would never go on a trip without a backup. I always take a laptop with me.
The daily results will be copied to the laptop and on a second external disk and the sd card gets formatted in the camera.

If there where a performand, energy saving way to copy in the camera from card one to two, it would be a easy way to backup with sd cards, but the build in mode is to slow and therfore using to much from the battery. Can I copy a 128 GB card with one battery with the build in mode - I never tried it?

My average Value over 32000 raw PEF pictures is 46 MB
With Pixelshift raw it is 150 MB per picture

I'm using a 256 GB sandisk micro sdxc with an sd adapter from sanddisk.

Round about 5000 raw pictures will fit on the card.

Ricoh Theta Z1

Sorry for replying late reh321.

That's true. But if you look at the inside of a big church like the Freiburg Minster ( Freiburg Minster - Wikipedia ), a 15 MPix camera can't have enough resolution for the fine detaisl in a 360 panorama.

I was so fascinated from the test fotos I made in normal rooms and outside, that i bought it. But I when i used in the church I find the resolution to low for my purpose.

Therefore I made a fault in believing that the camera would fit my expectations. I could have known it before with a little bit of calculations, that it won't fit that purpose.

I like my Theta S, I think it is one of the best panoramic cameras on the market, except the new one - bigger Sensor, more pixel, more ISO. I hope that stitching is at least as good as the Theta S one - I've tested the other vendors, they failed in quality. And I'll test the new V1 wether it will fit my purpose before buing it.

And I'm using the Theta S in other situations and the camera make great pictures.

I hope you understand that my problem of resolution is not a fault of the concept/camera.

Medium format needs a lot more light?

Yes and no. In the KB-World 2.8 an higher is normal. In the medium format only some optics have 2.8 most of them are 4.0 ore less. Therefore you need more light fully open.
If you come down to the same aperture, there isn't any difference in the light.

I'm interested in the first picture to be seen from with an gothic church. The Theta S fails there because of the details, but it is not a fault of the camera, it's according to the possible resolution.

Could be very interesting if the resolution is much bigger.

I like my theta, but for my purpose, photos from within buildings, halls and churches, the resolution is to low. But this is not a fault of the camera

Could be worse for a battery, because it may get deep discharged and damaged. The ,method to measure the loaded Volume of a naturally empty battery is much better and reliable

What K3 settings for landscape?

15mm Lens

On a K3 using a focus distance of 1.5m and F8 everything will be sharp from .8m to infinity
On a K3 using a focus distance of 1.1m and F11 everything will be sharp from .6m to infinity

calculation from here http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html(settings K-r, K-x, K7 K3 is not listed but it is apsc with a coc of 0.02mm, a nice tooll to play with)

Therefore the tip using manual focus and hyperfocal distance is very good. I'm using an Irix 11mm, where the focus ring can be blocked. It is set to hyperfocal at f/8 and blocked, and when I'm using it the AF is off works really fine. I prefer the F8 to be far away from the diffraction limits, but I thing f11 will be good too.
