Two shots taken from my bathroom's window with the K-S1.

The DA 55-300 PLM is one of my most used lenses and I'm very happy with it.

Thanks!

The vineyard is near my house and I can photograph it from my loggia. The hill is classified as agricultural zone and construction isn't allowed, but sadly this isn't true for the area beneath the street.

At the time, framing was a pita because of a tower crane and my neighbour's tree

The crane is now gone and my neighbour cut the protruding branches, but the white house on the right still disturbs the view.

Thanks for playing along this week.

I had a hard time picking a winner and changed my mind multiple times, but finally choose Glenn5995. It was a close call between him and Todd.

I really like the golden tone of Glenn's elaboration, reflecting well the light present at the moment the picture was taken (shortly after sunrise).

On the other hand I'm particularly fond of the velvia look. It reminds me so much of the postcards that were sold here in the 80's and works really well on this image.

Seeing Glenn's image for the first time, I thought "this is the winner", but the more I looked at Todd's elaboration, the more I liked it. In the end it was a toss-up and I went with my first instinct.

So congrats Glenn, looking forward to your next challenge!

PS: Just for fun, I also edited the picture. It's not what I usually would do to an image with such luscious colours, but I had fun doing it.

For this week's post processing challenge, I chose one of the first pictures I took with the 55-300mm PLM. I'm very satisfied with this lens and would recommend it to everyone who owns a compatible APS-C camera.

I'll close the challenge next Wednesday 2/27.

Time to give my S-M-C Takumar 50mm F4 macro a spin. The borage in my garden is crawling with bumblebees.

DA 21 ltd replacement for K-1 ?

My 55mm standard lens hood has the same measures. 24mm high and 58mm diameter.
However, the 55mm wide angle lens hood is closer in size to the original Takumar 28mm 3.5 lens hood. The Takumar is 6x7cm, while the Chinese lens hood has a diameter of 77mm and is 22mm high.

I mounted the Chinese lens hoods on the SMC Takumar 28mm 3.5 with a 49-55mm step up ring. The Takumar lens hood is on a Super Takumar 55mm 2.0 and I used bubble wrap to match the slightly different lens height.

You should be fine with a 49mm wide angle lens hood.

You won't like what I'm about to say. For very beautiful starbursts at decent apertures there's no way around a SMC DA 15 or SMC DA 21.

My SMC DA 21's starbursts are spectacular already at 5.6

Well, it can happen. My Pentax k-30 is not the first electronic device that failed on me and many more will in the future. Am I very angry that the camera failed after only 30 months? Of course I am, but I'm also fully aware that this can happen with any manufacturer.
It's sad to say, but today's electronics are not built to last. Nowadays we're trading product longevity for increasingly cheaper prices, and you know what? Most consumers don't even notice because they buy a new "improved and impressively better" device before the old one reaches the end of its progressively shorter life cycle.

I don't own many lenses (DA 18-135 WR and DA 50), so jumping ship would be very easy, but I loved my k30 so much I'm willing to give Pentax another chance. There's even a small part of me who's secretly happy that the k30 doesn't work properly anymore. I now have an excuse for buying a K3ii or K1.

I'm very happy with the Peak Design Slide strap. Its length is easily adjustable and if needed, you can also quickly detach it from the camera.
The supplied standard Arca-Swiss plate is fine, albeit a bit small for my needs, so I bought a bigger one a couple of months later. This plate is very cheap, fits my K-30 and works perfectly with my panning clamp. However, I don't trust the flimsy looking Chinese screw and still use the one provided by Peak Design.

Alternatively you may prefer Peak Design's Capture clip. I don't own the product, so I can't say anything about its validity, but it seems well regarded around the web.
You can see Slide and Capture in action in this video.

I kid you not, my k-30 started taking extremely underexposed pictures a couple of hours after I filled the questionnaire. Shooting continuously 4-5 shots fixes the problem, but the dark pictures are back again as soon as the camera is off for 10 minutes. The 2-year guarantee already expired, so I'm keeping the camera as it is for now.

After Photokina I'll decide what's next. I briefly flirted with the idea of getting a Fuji, but I'm now pretty sure that my next camera will still be a Pentax.
