Pentax 645Z vs Fujifilm GFX 50R

Haha yes it did, sadly I had to sell the 645Z to fund the X1D system. So at the time the only youtube reviews I did was the 645Z vs the 50R and 645Z vs the X1D, I didn't have time to do all 3 together.

I can comment though, and say if you don't care about the weight or the size of the 645Z, hands down the 645Z has the better raw files, faster and more accurate focusing, as well as the feeling like you can drop it and itll still work, plus the lenses are affordable as well.

The Fujifilm GFX 50R, at around ISO 3200 and above you can see this noise pattern I did not like, lenses for it are so sharp, I feel that sharpening is happening to the raw files in the camera, like its being baked in, colors are more towards the magenta side of things.

The X1D raw files are between the GFX and 645Z files, noise is not bad but not as good as the 645Z noise control, lenses are really excellent with the X1D, shutter is in the lens itself (left shutter system) so its rated for 1,000,000 exposures, whats funny is the shutter will sound different depending on what lens you put on the X1D, but the 45mm I have now, it sounds as loud as the 645Z shutter, weird right.

What attracted me to the X1D system, is the touch screen, easy to use menus, the colors straight out of camera (Hasselblad is more towards a green tint I been noticing), size is so small, will be happy to take it with me on my next vacation, also loving the touch screen interface on changing settings / menus, I just feel more of a connection with the X1D, GFX 50R, feels larger and more hallow when you pick it up, buttons are kinda small. If anyone has any questions they can PM me or ask here :)

Pentax 645Z vs Fujifilm GFX 50R

Hello All,

I did a youtube video review featuring both cameras, each has its own strengths and weaknesses. Just a short summary for those that don't want to view the youtube video :)

Pentax 645Z is much cleaner when recovering shadows compared to the 50R, also is less noisy at ISO 6400 in LightRoom. Last night which is not shown in the video, I loaded up the raw files into Capture One, I had to change the EXIF of the 645Z DNG files to read PhaseOne IQ250, and it seems that there is a lot of noise reduction going on with the 50R files, smoothing out the ISO 6400, but to my eyes the 645Z is still cleaner. The GFX 50R though can recover highlights better than I noticed. Also, the new GFX lenses are super sharp!! Wow!! They can clearly resolve 100MP for the new GFX 100 camera. The 645Z has more affordable lenses, and if you have a Pentax 645 film camera, you can easily use it on the digital 645D and Z, the Fujifilm you can't since its a new mount. One more thing, the raw files from the 50R seem more magenta looking, where the 645Z files are much warmer and pleasing to my eyes.

let me know if you guys have any questions :)

I know thats the thing about buying gear and selling we always lose out :( I'm losing out alot of $ on this sale.

hahha Hafa Adai!! :)

645Z is still plenty sharp when using certain lenses, like the 55mm 2.8 or the 75mm 2.8, yes the GFX is much sharper, but ISOs above 6400 the 645Z wins, Fujifilm bakes in too much sharpness to their raw files. So if a demo unit 645Z+lens is $3500 that is okay, because you're getting 4 lenses in this deal. Add the extra 3 lenses they are worth around $1500, and do the math $3500 + $1500 is $5,000, which this for sale thread price is much lower than :)

Yes I think you're right Lisa :) but its okay I just answered Publicly just encase others are wondering the same thing too.

Uploaded on my youtube channel - I take the Pentax 645Z to my recent trip to Japan, I visited Ricoh Imaging Square in Shinjuku to have it serviced. I was very impressed by their service and price, they were able to clean the 645Z, Pentax 55mm 2.8, and 150mm 2.8 lens. They only charged me to clean the lenses and cleaning and servicing of the 645Z was free! They did tell me that the 645Z has some front focusing, so I need to dial it in to -5 for the AF fine tune adjust, I had my friend who was translating for me, but for some reason the screw driven lenses 75mm and 150mm, is tack sharp wide open, only the new 55mm f/2.8 needs to be AF fine tuned. So total price was around $20 of service, then the next day had a photoshoot with a Japanese / Brazilian model, here is the link to the video, and some pics are attached here.

Been reading all the comments here :) Truth be told, I am tempted by Fujifilm, as they have the 110mm f/2 lens, since I am a portrait guy this will be perfect for my background to subject (model) separation, but you can't beat the value the 645Z is giving with its affordable second-hand lenses ( Got the 150mm 2.8 for such a good deal). I still do prefer an optical viewfinder though for my portraits :)

I will be traveling to Japan next month, I'm gonna visit Ricoh Pentax Imaging Square at Shinjuku and have them service the 645Z, they told my friend who lives in Yokohama (who will be accompanying me) that it'll take 3 hours to clean and adjust. I'm gonna ask if they can calibrate the FA 55mm 2.8 to the body. I never had Pentax service before, I'll be vlogging my trip and share with everybody here :)
