rumor new vintage FF and apsc mirrorless

I'm aware of the PL mount. RED and ARRI both make cameras that weigh 4 pounds. I'm not sure I'd call that huge. But I get what you're saying, I think.

I still look at my ZX-5N, and I don't think it would be hard to make a mirrorless camera around that size.

You know who hasn't gotten the message that mirrorless cameras with SLR mounted are a waste?

Arriflex: Alexa (the leading camera in the motion picture industry) and Amira both feature optional EF mounts.

Canon: leading television cameras, C100 / C300 / C500 have EF mounts.

Blackmagic Design motion picture cameras have optional EF mounts.

RED motion picture cameras (EPIC, SCARLET, RAVEN, WEAPON) have either fixed or optional EF mounts.

panasonic: Varicam LT, a television camera, comes with EF mount.

Maybe all these manufacturers need forum members to let them know mirrorless cameras with SLR mounts are a waste.

The case for a fast super wide

You have done some brilliant work, and you have a valid reason for wanting a fast wide lens. "impractical" is in the eye of the beholder. I work with cinema lenses, many of which are "impractical." you keep dreaming. I support your dream. Maybe a larger sensor will help in the future?

Is this the most frequently misused quote in photography? I'm pretty sure I read that Cartier-Bresson said it in response to the question of whether he was still able to focus reliably in his older age, due to diminishing eyesight.

The man used Leica lenses for his whole career. He was obviously a fan of sharpness.

A gap in the APS-C prime line up, 18mm? (The missing 28mm equivalent?)

I agree. The lack of a 28mm equivalent prime is no good.

If no damage is done and one finds that the product doesn't suit one's needs, I don't see the problem. The purchase was in good faith, but the lens isn't what the buyer needs.

15mm f4 will be of little use for astrophotography. Get the 16mm, take it on your trip, and return it it'd you don't like it. If you can also afford the OGPS-1, the combination would probably be great.

The follow focus is not a measuring device at all. It is used to pull focus, whether or not the disc is marked.

Lens patent: 4.2mm (20mm equiv.)

I don't know. The lens elements for the 01 lens are tiny, especially compared to the size of the mount. even if the front and rear elements were double the size they are now, they would still be small.

I desperately want a wide prime for my Q. I'm curious as to how hard it would have been to make these lenses fast, like 1.0 or 0.95.

I agree with you. The Fuji XT-1 has a great set of dials - it's similar to my Pentax ZX-5N, which is the most efficient interface I've ever used. I'd buy a full-frame digital ZX-5N-type camera, even if autofocus and the sensor were not of the latest generation - those things aren't the most important to me.

A lot of people think we're stupid for wanting such cameras, though.

m42 to Pentax K focal reducer

I don't think it's a matter of equivalency. I think the speedbooster reduces the entire image circle of the larger format to the size of the smaller format's sensor. This means you get the depth of field, field of view, etc., of the larger format.

It's extremely clear why someone would want one, to me: it offers the ability use medium format image characteristics on smaller, cheaper camera bodies, with increased speed and resolution.

I don't agree with the assessment that everyone thought it was the future. It may have been hyped that way, but the Hollywood cinematography community would not have seen the future as being a 2/3" sensor (this negates the ability to use classic cinema lenses) 1080 resolution, and a workflow that didn't include raw files.

The community new digital was the future, but that particular implemenation had noticeable technical limitations.

You're not making much sense. You just described the world's two most frequently used professional systems as "average" and "above average," without beginning any of their deficiencies for what you need. You also didn't specify what you need.

Much of the world's best photography is shot on canon and Nikon systems. They provide quality products.

It's probably not a huge market, but it's large enough that Kodak has continued to sell it.

There are a few companies that will process it and scan it. One company in Los Angeles specializes in it.

Nice. There was demand for this, within the industry. I participated in a meeting of approximately 20 people in the motion picture industry less than a year ago. This was in regards to how to capture spherical video for a commercial being shot by an Oscar-winning cinematographer. At the time, there was no device that could capture spherical video on the market at 24 fps.

Participants in the meeting included the commercial production company, a post production company, and a camera engineering team.

360 degree and spherical are not the same thing - this could be 360 rather than spherical. I didn't take a good look at it, though, so I apologize if I am overlooking obvious specs.

360 captures 360 degrees horizontally, but not does not capture the view above and below the camera.

I don't know anyone who thought the star wars prequels looked very good when they came out.

---------- Post added 01-05-16 at 09:33 PM ----------

Are you serious? I do this all the time. Most movies are shot digitally, including many nominees for the best cinematography Oscar. It doesn't make the lighting look bad.

I am a cinematographer, though.

I just sold my K-x. I love the sensor, but the viewfinder and LCD were just not so great for me. I would often chimp, and not be able to tell whether my images were in sharp focus. It was stressful. I loved the shutter sound, though.
