You'd probably need to attach a sizeable lever to tighten a friction lock enough to hold the kind of torque this design does.

Me too, though I wish it could be adjusted smoothly. It would probably have to be friction-locked, though, instead of looking like this:

My two Rollei tripods (that I got for 69 each) have arrived
I'm quite pleased with both (hard not to be at the this price), I'll probably keep the bigger one.

Given their fairly beefy legs (Beta: 31|28|25|22mm, Gamma: 28|25|22|19mm), they're surprisingly slim (thanks to the Y-shaped center column).
That design makes it impossible to fold over the legs for storage, though. The legs fold down very efficiently but the folded length (570mm & 545mm respectively, plus the head of course) is rather cumbersome.

top to bottom: Rollei Rock Solid Beta 180 Carbon (with Sirui K-20X), Gamma 180 Carbon, Induro A114

I don't think I'll use the long center column too often. I'm sure it'll come in handy occasionally but I'll probably use the small column most of the time.
I don't need the center column to reach eye level (at least not in landscape orientation) and the tilt mechanism seems quite useful without extension:

Too bad you won't be taking that surplus tripod off my hands...

I'm not quite sure about the design, the 180 version's y-shaped center column makes it quite slim but unlike with the normal version the legs can't be folded over for storage.

Beta/Gamma 180 folded height: 570/545mm
Beta/Gamma folded height: 515/475mm

Beta vs Beta 180 (not scaled correctly):

EDIT:
At least according to the 'Rollei Social Media Team', the tripod sale was on purpose and all orders will be fulfilled without delay.
No idea why they would be in such a hurry to clear overstock, they could easily have sold the same number for double the price in a similarly short time period.

One Ebay account bought 114 tripods (out of 329 sold through Ebay), I'm slightly annoyed now that I didn't buy more than two (the Beta Carbon shouldn't be hard to sell for at least 250-300).

Attachment 377320

EDIT2:
I got confirmation from Rollei, the tripods are shipping today and should arrive next Monday or Tuesday:

128GB may be a bit much for photos only (I'm not planning on shooting 4k anytime soon) but I got it for a good price and I've gotten used to using my empty cards in place of USB sticks.

Attachment 377242

And with a bit of luck, I'll be getting two rather good tripods for a ridiculously good price

Rollei had their "Rock Solid Beta 180" & "Rock Solid Gamma 180" tripods on sale (on Amazon & Ebay, both sold and fulfilled directly by Rollei) for 49€/69€ (Aluminium/Carbon) yesterday (normal prices are 249/399€for the Beta and 199€/329€ for the Gamma).
Not sure if they're were trying to clear some overstock in a hurry or if it's a mistake but they have started fulfilling orders so I'm rather hopeful that I'll get what I ordered (1 Beta Carbon & 1 Gamma Carbon).

Attachment 377243

They might be a bit too big for me (something like a Sirui T-1204X might be a better fit) but they're certainly better than my current Induro A114 (aluminium, 24/20/16/12mm leg diameter, the Rollei tripods are 28/25/22/19mm and 31/28/25/22mm)...

Here's a quick breakdown:

65€:
- KM
- K50/1.4 (incl. original caps)
- K28/3.5 (incl. original caps & case)

95€:
- KX
- K28/3.5 (incl. original caps & case
- K55/1.8 (incl. original caps)
- K135/3.5 (incl. original hood, caps & case)

50€:
- K24/3.5 (incl. original hood & caps)

250€:
- X700
- MD 50/1.2 (incl. original caps)
- MD 28/2.0 (incl. original hood & caps)

(not counting a couple of cheap 3rd party lenses, flashes & bags)

The MD28/2 is probably the most valuable but it's too rare to get a typical used price from past ebay sales. (no past sales within the searchable time window, only these 2 current offers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/222621777517, http://www.ebay.com/itm/302445005841 and mine seems to be in better condition than those two and comes with the original hood)

Aaand... I just snatched up another bargain. A Minolta X700 with an MD 50/1.2 and the very rare MD 28/2 MDIII version (same optics as the AF 28/2 but with floating elements which Minolta didn't manage to implement in the AF version). All in very good condition for what would be a good price for the 50/1.2 by itself. The MD28/2 might actually have a chance of replacing my K28/3.5(s).

It's been a lucky week for me, I might have to start worrying about torches and the pitchforks, too...

EDIT:
Here's a comparison of Minoltas fast 28s (on 24MP FF):

50€ seemed like a good deal...

(seller's photos)

I also picked up a KX with three lenses (K135/3.5, M50/1.4 and another K28/3.5).

I can identify the K28/3.5 at a glance at this point... Maybe I should set up a test for sample variation while I have 3 copies at hand.

Sweet, sweet arbitrage profits...

You smell that? Do you smell that?(...) Tar, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of tar in the morning.

DHL 'lost' the parcel for a couple of weeks but it finally arrived yesterday. I only paid 60€ so I'm not too mad...

The meter on the KM doesn't seem to be working (the meter needle barely twitches) and there's something wrong with the linkage between the aperture ring and the aperture mechanism on the K50/1.4 (probably an easy fix).
Other than that it's all in good condition.

Now, whatever am I going to do with the K28/3.5 (I already have one)...

How about now?

Ryzen really shines in compute tasks, it varies by application of course but if the software you use can put all those cores to work, you'll see a huge difference.

It has arrived and I'm quite impressed thusfar.

The old A7 struggles with AF in low light but as soon as there's enough light the AF is quite sufficient (and Eye-AF is great to have, even the old A7 mk1 does a decent job at it) and the lens' performance is very impressive.
I don't know if I'd sacrifice my K28/3.5 but the FE28/2 is on top of my wishlist now.

Treason disclaimer:
I've sold 3 Canon nFD lenses to pay for this one, so I don't think this impacts my traitor status.

~536 (rather than the usual ~650) for the New Sony FE 85/1.8 seemed like a good deal, It'll be the first AF lens on my A7.

MF works fine for most things but I wanted at least one AF lens and this one seems to make the most sense. Manual focus with my Samyang 85/1.4 and Canon FD 100/2 was a bit of a pain...

I grew up looking at that place from the sides (you can't exactly take a stroll through a place full of building-sized robots driving around...), it always seemed rather mundane but seeing it from above gives you a very different sense of the scale.
Making Hamburg look this colourful usually takes some heavy editing, though (here's the OOC-jpg).

Shooting from a low flying plane is great fun! You'll kick yourself for missing all the best shots afterwards, though.
