Up here, people who purchased a new house would often have trouble with the so called water conservation toilets. When they got frustrated enough they would drive to Canada, where the old style 3 gallon units were till available, to get them.

In England a town forced everybody to get the new low volume toilets. Then there was not enough water flowing into the sewer system to keep the solid matter moving. So they then told everyone to flush the toilets three times until they could figure out a fix. I was up in Baxter, MN this past April. The hotels up there were told that they had to change all their toilets to ones that used 1.3 gallons or water per flush. So they were all changed out. They were told to do it again with toilets that only use 1.1 gallon of water per flush.

Miranda cameras had a good reputation back in the day. They were used a lot as grab shot and backups by wedding photographers because they have a relatively quiet shutter. It should perform well for you. Not sure if there is a Miranda thread somewhere out there in an classic camera forum.

Yongnuo mastering P-TTL and HSS: new YN585EX model

Red faced here. Red eye reduction is working fine. It is me not understanding how a P-TTL flash works.:o I guess I need to learn the newfangled stuff. Flash powder was so much easier. Fill the tray and let her rip.

I updated the firmware from UEr 1611 to UEr 1616. No problems with that. Quick and easy. All in all I am satisfied with the flash. Build quality is pretty good and it does what it says it should. It will not get much heavy use. I am getting intrigued by Multi mode.

I got one of these two days ago. I have yet to update the firmware. For whatever reason I cannot shut off red eye reduction. The manual says it is controlled by the camera but it is off on my K1. I guess I should try it in crop mode to see if I still have the issue. I too have to manually zoom the system to match the focal length. I will check that in crop mode too.

On the plus side it does work fine in P-TTL mode. The diffuser works good too. Not griping as it won't get that much use and the price was easy on my wallet. Just another tool to learn how to use. And a shout out to a third party manufacturer who is supporting Pentax.

Mirror Slap / Shutter Shock on K-1

This shake issue is internal to the camera. I personally think the sensor moves a bit as it as a resonant frequency is hit during the exposure cycle. What I see is a faint ghost image. Easily visible when zooming in. I cannot see it on the camera display. That image looks nice and sharp.

Since resonant frequency changes as the mass changes, I am hoping that adding the battery grip will alleviate the problem. If it doesn't, I will simply watch my shutter speeds.

I have a lot of handheld shots exhibiting this issue on my K1 when using the 28-105. Keeping out of the 1/60-1/200 shutter speed range seems to solve the problem. I recently got a battery grip for my K1 and I am going to test as to whether the added weight helps with the issue. Definitely a resonate frequency issue. Easily worked around.

I don't consider the lack of a cheep Chinese knockoff a bad thing. The Pentax one is well made and fits great. No doubt more robust too. One thing for sure, the camera becomes a best when it is installed. It is a tool that will last me several years so I figure buy once, cry once. Sales of the K1 have been very good for Pentax. Maybe the company that makes the cheap knockoffs never sold that many of them for the K5 or K3 and decided not to make one for the K1.

I own few cheap Kapaxen knockoff batteries that "work" in my K5/K3/K1 cameras. They only last about 200 shots. Plus, they don't hold a charge worth a darn. For that reason, when going remote, I use them first and then switch to Watson or Pentax batteries. Watson batteries are okay, but still not up to Pentax quality.

The big brown truck brought a little brown box of goodies today.

1) A battery grip for my K1.
2) A Yongnou YN585EX Speedlight for Pentax Cameras. Larger than I thought. Works fine. It is not going to get a lot of work so I went inexpensive.
3) 12 Eneloops AA batteries plus a charger.
4) A Vello off camera TTL flash Cord.

I bet that when used in conjunction with an extension tube it would be one heck of a macro setup. If you could mount an eyepiece to it a great small telescope.

Well Norm, I live just across the inland sea from you. Next time we can just meet up for a friendly chat. I have relatives up near Watertown and I am only 70 miles form Niagara Falls, so either place is not that far out of the way.

Well, if I remember correctly, Riding 4 out of 5 of the items pictured can cost you a lot of money. You have to pay for every ride. And sometimes those payments can go on for a long time as they have this habit of reproducing. If you ride the 5th one it is a buy once cry once scenario no matter how many times you enjoy riding it.

The difference was substantial. And while they kept raising the rate citing increasing costs, I and all the field service techs, didn't get a raise the in the 12 years before I retired.

FWIW, I have some goodies coming form B&H later this week. Nothing big, just a few accessories and their accessories.
