Recent trip to Nfld and Labrador, ran across this community campsite by the ocean shoreline.

I think a bonfire / couple of friends would be perfect..

Doesn't the Catch in Focus of the Pentax negate a lot of the fast focus of the Nikon? It may be only 1 great shot.

I haven't done much birding, and that question/comment may show that...

Black fly season is the WORST. I totally agree.

We are just getting our 4 wheelers tuned up, and sledding season is winding down. Rain expected next week, and plus 7C temps. Will make any lake sledding impossible.

Took some soap bubble pics last night with the local group, and we discovered that if you line up the soap bubbles with a building light way in the distance, you get this effect

Places Near Seattle WA to Visit for Pictures?

Thank you very much for the reply! My wife and I arrive on Thursday and I am looking forward to taking lots of pics. She has a KX and I use the K3, lol, bet I know what K Three uses...

I am considering finding a camera shop during the Black Friday week and seeing what bargains I can score.. Not guaranteed I want to buy another K3 yet, for my wife. The KX is good up to a point, but I can get better low light pics, and much better AF, better ISO performance and weather sealed in a K3 for her.

I looked up the Port locations, and we are definitely going to spend some time on the Pacific coast, and I really want to do some night, long exposure shots for a city.

Take care

Places Near Seattle WA to Visit for Pictures?

Hi All,
Going to visit my son near Seattle WA between Nov 18 and Nov 27th, and wonder if there are suggestions on places to hike to, or visit in town for some great picture ops?

Have been to the fish market last time, it was neat, and some of the local trails, but it was years ago so I couldn't say which trails..

Thanks!

Contrast changes with Exposure ?

Good method. I was manually adjusting each of the 4 sliders, Shadows, Highlights, White and Black, viewing the histogram and then resetting. I will screen cap them to see, or, possibly make 4 copies of the pics to do the comparisons.

Time for me to read up on the difference between them.

We get into such interesting threads on this forum.:)

Contrast changes with Exposure ?

Thanks for that clarification!
As a LR user, I just played with the Highlights and Shadows, as well as the Whites and Blacks while viewing the histogram. Both offer increased contrast, the Whites and Blacks provide a more dramatic effect, the Highlights and Shadows offer an increase however in a different way. Not sure I can explain the difference at this time.

More for me to learn and understand. I will have to look into Faststone.

Thanks!

Does any Yongnuo flash with ttl work on my Pentax K3?

I know nothing about Yongnuo, however, just today I was talking to my local camera shop about flashes. The sales rep has been using all manual Promaster flashes with remote triggers, hooked up to his K5 ( I believe ). Says it works great, and the price is very very low.
If you don't already own Yongnuo you may want to look into Promaster flashes?
I bought a Pentax AF540FGZ, expensive, but feature packed. I rushed into this buy, and haven't done any research before or after.

Contrast changes with Exposure ?

Would you mind elaborating on that? I'll help narrow the request.

If I want to increase contrast, which is something I find I desire at times, I should shoot at the optimum or slightly under exposed. ( I believe that under exposed is better than over exposed from a blown out, no data in over exposed shot )

Afterwards, in Post Processing I can adjust the contrast on shadows to make them pop?

Does that seem like a good approach?

Thanks
Robeffy

I have never seen this chart, it's perfect! I did not know that D FA lenses were fully compatible with current APS-C lensed cameras. I thought they were carry over lenses from the transition from FF film to digital. DUH!

Is there a SIMPLE RAW processing program?

My 2 cents favors LR for organizing, cropping, exposure adjustment in both RAW and JPG. I like to organize my pics, and find Ligthroom and Elements do that really well.

If I want to get more in depth, I am dabbling with GIMP, which is free. I transfer the RAW to a TIFF format, modify and resave it back the same directory it came from in LR, with a modified file name, and then recatalogue it in LR.

I used to design machinery for a living, and always said there are 50 ways to design something, 2 or 3 are really good, the rest will likely work, to varying degrees.

Personal preference comes into play with software.
