Now that the rumour mills pitch the new Fuji GF 100s at 5,999$, which may mean the unit cost of the crop MF 100MP sensor has come down, is it time to start dreaming again about a successor to the 645Z?

As others have said, updating the camera for a less grainy high ISO would be a good choice, and a used K5II should cost less than half your budget.
As for your advice for a lens to replace the 28-200, I will make the seemingly odd recommandation for a used Tamron 28-75 2.8. I say used because they don't make them anymore in K mount. If you can live with the fact that the AF of the lens makes noise, it's really a good lens. The constant 2.8 aperture means you won't need to push ISO as much. I got mine 5 years ago for about 300 euros.

Indeed, an increased AF area coverage would be equally bode well for the AF coverage of the next full frame camera.

The strong shadows on the ground and the shining on the arch from picture 2 best convey the strong heat. I would maybe have included the full shadow of the front sphere to convey that feeling even more blatantly?

Why not a GXR with a K-mount unit?

No, I believe people think the pictures for the Ricoh GRIII marketing are better simply because they all seem to have a cute woman in them. I prefer the landscape pictures from Pentax marketing.

I am not sure battery life is ever an issue with my Pentax cameras, but the ability to use the same battery on a K5, K1 or 645Z is tremendous. If the battery mAh can be improved WHILE being able to use the batteries interchangeably between cameras then great. If not, there is nothing wrong with the existing battery. If ain't broken, don't fix it.

My Pentax K-1 is probably my preferred camera, and I used it for travel, events, social occasions. Great quality with great ergonomics. Everything is easily accessible under the fingers.
I shoot a lot of street photography. For that I started in 2009 with a film camera, the Zeiss Ikon. Great camera with a great viewfinder. I damaged the viewfinder 18 months ago, and while I was waiting for it to be fixed stumbled upon a well used Leica M240 at a good price with warranty. While it's the right tool for street, it's an average camera at best: the viewfinder is small (the Zeiss Ikon's viewfinder is so much bigger/brighter), and the ergonomics are not well thought through.
I also shoot track and field when we have team competitions. I used my K5-II initially and got decent results, but then tried a Nikon D500 with a 70-200 f4. And for that task, the Nikon is just ace. But the Nikon doesn't get used unless I am shooting sports or need two cameras (K-1 with wide/normal lens and D500 with 70-200) for an event.

Lovely picture. I live in the UK and I had no idea there was a St Michael's mount in Cornwall!

Very nice pictures. Why did you use different aspect ratios for part of the shoot?

Hello,
Pentax user since 2007 (K-10 + 16-45 was my introduction, followed by a K-5II, a K-1 and a 645Z),
I'm a long time reader of the lens reviews here. Not sure why I didn't join sooner really.

Both levers are present. With the lens off camera, moving the aperture ring moves both levers and therefore closes the aperture. On my 45-85, which works normally, changing the aperture using the aperture ring doesn't close down the aperture.

Hello,
I bought a used Pentax FA 80-160 lens just before the confinement period, and failed to test it as we were stuck home.
Trying to use the lens, I noticed the lens has a mechanical failure. On Pentax 645 lenses, rotating the aperture ring normally doesn't change the physical aperture opening, but on the lens I purchased it does. This leads to two issues:
1) when used with the aperture ring set to the desired aperture value, the viewfinder view becomes dimmer as the aperture is closed down and the camera can't autofocus past f8 even on object of very high contrast
2) when used on the A setting, the lens is almost fully closed down and the metering is completely off, with AF also impossible.
Does anyone know if this is an easy issue to fix and have an idea of the cost for the repair?
