That's not what DPR did is it? That they would suggest it's not a camera for professionals was surprising considering the noise surrounding it and the number of times "professional" was used in pre-release PR. You can hardly shut the camera off and let it cool down at a wedding or live event unless you're a fairly well to do professional wiling to invest in multiple R5 (or R6) bodies, and then you might be better served by a really good DSLR or MILC and a completely separate video camera if that's equally important..

One camera being the master of all things might be unreasonable. Still these new Canon's appear to be great and innovative cameras as long as what you believe what they will do for you is tempered. Focusing looks amazing and it's got the whole checklist of camera features prosumers look for.

Perhaps initial hype from the fans and the press was a bit too grandiose, and that's certainly not all on Canon's shoulders. I'm sure they would have preferred over-delivering rather than this early negativity.

Right. Buy Pentax. :)
Mirrorless in general does tend to get a bit heated, more so than DSLR.

I take it you hate Sony BTW. Why?

I was about to go looking to see what that lens was and reviews of it since I'd not ever heard of it before. Of course you would know so thanks muchly sir for saving me the time. :)
You've got quite the collection of unusual glass going BTW. Did you get that Nikcor adapter yet?

Thye may even have overheating issues if only shooting stills.

[You get] 19 min from a cold body with no foreplay, [if] you take a pic or two and fiddle in the menus that time begins to drop. I got to use an R5 today out at a Motocross event and well it turned off from only doing photos. This was using the EF to RF adapter and a 200mm f2. This was used for over a time period of 2.5-3 hrs and it was 86 degrees out.

Their processors may be too much for the relatively compact cameras without adding an additional cooling system, tho how it would not be recognized as an issue in engineering would be hard to understand so my guess may not turn out accurate.

In any case if it's something that can't be corrected with firmware that would be unfortunate as I agree the new Canon's were looking like a significant step forward. Certainly way out of my budget so nothing I'd be considering but not for certain professionals who lean heavily on video or some the most dedicated Canonites who simply want the most top of their line.

Poll: What will the new flagship APS-C be called?

I'm still leaning K-3 Mark III.

K-1 denotes their "flagship" full-frame models. In truth their only current full-frame but who's quibbling. :)
K-3 identifies their "flagship" APS-C models.
The other non-flagship cameras fill out the offerings, even if very capable in their own rights.

FWIW DPReview is suggesting the R5 (and R6 kinda surprisingly) is not a suitable camera for professionals intending to use it primarily for video.

Canon EOS R5 and R6 overheating claims tested: cameras work as promised - but that's not enough: Digital Photography Review
"After extensive testing of both cameras, our conclusions with regards internal recording are:

Both the EOS R5 and R6 appear capable of working as promised
Lack of dependability makes them a poor choice for much professional video work"
...
and this:
Even set to the mode designed to limit pre-recording temperature build-up, the clock is essentially running from the moment you turn the camera on...any time spent setting up a shot, setting white balance, setting focus or waiting for your talent to get ready (or shooting still images) will all cut into your available recording time, and you won't reliably get the full amount Canon advises. Not only does this make R5 a poor fit for many professional video shoots, it also means that you can't depend on the cameras when shooting video alongside stills at, say, a wedding, which is a situation that the EOS R5 clearly is intended for.

EDIT: Apparently I may have been wrong about how forgiving the reviewers would be, They might be starting to pile on. There's new reports of even still shooting causing overheating.
https://petapixel.com/2020/08/03/dpreview-eos-r5-overheating-test-you-cant-d...on-the-camera/

So it's an open question whether trying to be "the master of all things" as I suggested earlier will have been a wise move at the moment. Still wish them success.

Not the 2oz's from the camera which is all that was being discussed. He was right. Any recent Pentax APS-C is light and compact enough not to be burdensome, and I hate to have to add this disclaimer but there's always "that guy", except to the most frail.

But lenses and bags and filters and flashes and modifiers.... Oh My! That's why we all have our walkaround lens and method of carrying. Some here have no issue with several pounds of it while the most unhealthy or challenged among us might want to avoid standalone camera's altogether.

ND and GND filter guidance/questions

Great link.

IMO the most important takeaway in that article for someone new to ND's is this:
"...generally speaking, the f-stop measurement is the most useful, because you can easily use it to determine the correct exposure for your filter. Simply select the exposure you’d need before adding the ND filter–then drop the shutter speed or widen the aperture to compensate for the number of stops the ND filter has reduced."

I think Pentax might avoid K2 considering the drug connotatation that some will toss around. Of course there is that mountain.

Had you ever seen mention of that anywhere before?

Yes, I'd be disappointed too. Seems odd and like you would have assumed it was just one specific lens. Obviously not as you tried two. You've put a lot of effort into this so I hope the Nikkor fixes it.

Spot on.
Pentax K-3 II and Pentax KP are the same width (131.5 mm) and K3 II is 1% (1.5 mm) taller than Pentax KP.
Pentax K-3 II is 2% (1.5 mm) thicker than Pentax KP.
Pentax K-3 II [785 g] weights 12% (82 grams) more than Pentax KP [703 g] (*inc. batteries and memory card).

Fun Fact: Much is made of how compact the KP is but the K-70 is even more so.
- Pentax K-70 is 5% (6 mm) narrower and 8% (8 mm) shorter than Pentax KP.
- Pentax K-70 is 3% (2 mm) thinner than Pentax KP.
- Pentax K-70 [688 g] weights 2% (15 grams) less than Pentax KP [703 g] (*inc. batteries and memory card).
Snipped quote: "It's like holding a camera without holding a camera!"

Pentax has been going for "compact" for some time now.

Whether it's there or not on the K-new I like it when members take the time to do some independent research. Thanks for that Kobie.
