Another DP review unfairness to Ricoh/Pentax

I always had feeling dp review is not huge fan of Ricoh/Pentax but I didn't realy care for that. But this huge project of restoring photographs to tsunami victims is done by Ricoh. I posted link about that generous act here a while back and today dp review has post about that. Ricoh is mentioned 2 times in whole article?? I can't help to think if anyone else did that they would rave about it. Sorry if this is in wrong section of forum....Save The Memory Project restores over 400,000 photographs from Tsunami-hit areas of Japan: Digital Photography Review

There's no fear about Pentax name on DSLRs. They clearly stated that Pentax name will be on all DSLR cameras and Ricoh will be on compacts. I wasn't too excited about Ricoh taking over Pentax but they reasured me. And I'm happy they did. We have FF on the way,new lenses,K3 that is really step forward and was well acsepted.....and now they did this:)
Kinda makes me proud to be under that kind of corporation.)

This is admirable effort from Ricoh and all I can say is RESPECT!
World would be much better place if other corporations would show more empaty for those in need....
I have lost my childehood photos when we were moving and that is something that money can't replace.

It is brief but at least now I understand that interchangeable cameras will have Pentax name in the future. And that Pentax aim at the proffesionals. Honestly until now I thought that Pentax don't even think about pros. If I understood correctly (betwen the lines) new FF will aim at pros and I think it's a good news. They have a strategy how to grow system and make it appealing and "whole". Maybe in years to come we'll see new fast primes and advanced flash system. That would really be hard to beat-great APSC lineup, deacent FF lineup,645 with new leaf shutter lenses, thethering support....no system have all that. Pentax would really be mature and competetive system that would be hard to ignore...

Help needed-DA*50-135 vs Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX DG APO Macro II

Howieb101 thank you. That is exactly what I wanted-real life experiance from someone who have both lenses. I know they are different lenses. On FF FOV with 70-200 should be like 50-135 on crop. I like that range for portraits.

@Blue I missed your point with the price?😕
I'm perfectly aware of Pentax lenses and legacy. FF market has bean divided betwen Canon and Nikon for years and it's hard for others to touch them. Sony is investig heavily last couple of years in FF mirorrless segment. Pentax decided to go with DSLR and I'm very happy but for selfish reason-I love DSLR and mirorrles just don't find it's way to my heart☺. But that's hardest market to fight for at the moment. Decresing sales of cameras in general and 2 extremly organized and established brands as competition. I expected that Pentax will offer something like 645z in MF. Feature ritch camera with amazing IQ at relatively low price. I don't see that happening here. Lenses anounced should be cheaper than competition at least 100$. Don't forget that L 70-200 is II is best in it's range and it is one of the most harmonious zooms ever. That's why I'm surprised with D FA 70-200 price.... In interview with Pentax they sed that upcoming FF body will be similary prices as competition and it makes me wonder how on earth they gonna enter the market? What is selling strategy? Sensor will probably be Sony and that what Nikon haves so IQ will not be by far better. IBIS is great but why so steep price of new zooms then? I really hope IQ will be class leading from border to center and from one end to other....

Help needed-DA*50-135 vs Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX DG APO Macro II

Just to put things in perspective. I shoot wedding and I need at least good IQ wide open. Like wedding book good IQ. DA* is giving me very good IQ up to~120mm than it is "just" good. FF is serious consideration because most of my lenses are for FF. I don't have much but it is nice setup for what I do. F 35-70, manual focus Sigma 90 2.8 macro(that lens is beast in the best way), A 50 1.7 and DA*50-135. I borow Tamron 17-50 2.8 for wide shots when I nead it. So if Sigma is on pair with DA* or at least not significantly weaker I would go for it.

---------- Post added 02-16-15 at 09:54 PM ----------

@Blue I know we have SR and that's not my point. Point is price especialy comparing to Canon. OS cost money just like all metal body and optics on Canon version are amazing. We are being served with plastic body,no OS and price tag is above Canikon. That is strange IMO because Pentax have to offer more than them if they want to make enterance in to FF world. Pentax FF lineup can't egsist on our posible purchases. There is not enough of us and Pentax have to lure new costumers to buy the product. To do that it have to give something. It's not APSC world and we are starting from scratch now. Some kind of deal like 645z is in MF world...

I hope D FA will live up to it's price.... That is most expensive 70-200 and doesn't have OS so I guess optics are perfect from 70 to 200....we'll see about that.)
Thanks for info MadMathMind

Hy all and thanx in advance. I own DA*50-135 2.8 and I was offered Sigma for exchange. I love may DA but Sigma is FF and I plan to step into FF world:) IQ of DA is great exept on the long end wide open but that's not problem. AF is slow and I'd like to have faster. I heard that Sigma is better in this regard. I,m worried about mixed reviews on Sigma IQ. Some say it's great even wide open but some say it's soft and lacks contrast. Did anyone had both lenses and could you give me some advice. I'm bit unsure about that trade because DA have WR and I love that. I'd sacrifice it if IQ of Sigma is at least near IQ of DA.
Thanx one more time:)

There are few approaches as I see it.
1. On second image use te brush in LR and get rid of red cast on the stars. Make them white. Then play with color sliders. Make red stand out. Give it more saturation and more luminance. Keep an eye on the highlights (on flag) don't blow them.
Then go to blue (sky) color. Make it darker and bit more saturated so you get contrast with red. Flag is primary subject so it should be first thing that drow your eye when you look at the image.
make greens in the back ground darker so they don't interfere with blue and red. Do the same with yelow.
Aply brush on stone and use clarity and contrast slider to enhance texture but be carefull not to make stone too bright because flag is our star:) But make it pop from foregound and background. Aply brush on the flag and give it a BIT of texture with clarity but watch out for the colors (don't "kill" them with too much clarity.
At the end aply just a touch of vignete.
2. Do eveithing on the stone and flag as above but "wash out" other colors. Don't move them away completly-more like grunge if you know what I mean (sorry but english is not my native language...)
I think I know what you are trieing to get and it would be much easier if you photographed it on a cloudy day.
Last but not least corect perspective-fence is kind of a leaning to the right.
Good luck and have fun.)

I think most of you are to defensive about old4570 IMHO justified remarks. 1/250 sync is standard today and I see no reason why Pentax should not adress that matter. ISO 80 or ND filters reduce flash expousure allso so they can not make up for higher shutter sync. I came from Canon (7d) 2 years ago and they allow flash to fire even above max sync speed. On 1/320 you get little bit of curtain but if you compose carefuly you can crop and get great image. I don't understand why Pentax just don't allow flash to fire above 1/180 no matter if curtain is in the frame. That CAN be done via firmware. Don't get me wrong-I love handeling of my k5,dynamic range,IBIS,WR and all the joys this sistem is giving me but there are some matters Pentax should address to be compatitive. We as users should be the first to push company to the max and make them deliver best they can. Our job is not to defend them or praise them. Product should do that-not us. 645z is not praised because of Pentax/Ricoh fans, photographic history or looks. It's praised because it is one of the most capable mf cameras today. But even 645z is critisized for low sync speed.

Wife is and always will be toughest obstacle on my way to promise land full of lenses.)

It wouldnt make any sence to produce FF camera with same MP count as your flagship MF beast. I don't think people in Ricoh/Pentax would like to see 645z sale numbers going down the hill.....

For indoor aplications like events...etc... you better invest in flash. I have 50-135 and I love it but it does have one of the slower AF,from about 110-135 it gets bit softer wide open and it is larger and havier than the 55-300. Knowing it + and - sides it is my favorite portrait lens.

Narual first of all thank you for your theral explanation:)) That's why I LOVE this forum:)
I should've give you more informations about what I want.
I primerly use that lens for studio work and that means I use small aperatures.F 5,6 is largest aperature I use. Usualy it's around f8-f11. It depends on lighting set up. I don't like to push it bellow f16 because of difraction. When you have beutiful glass why not use it at sweet spot?:)

Tan68 I played with rynox 150 and that's diferent thing. I was thinking more like +1 close up lens so I don't get much magnification and distortion. Just to get me little bit closer. For example with native minimum FD i can frame head and neck. What I'm trying to get is forehead and chin. With extension tubes I lose light and that's not what I want. My goal with this thread was to get some first heand experience from someone who tryed that combo. Something like that on the link that Bob from Aus have posted.
Hope that helps.
Once again thank you all for your effort to help me.
I just love this forum:)

Giklab thanx for sharing:)
I have played with macro lenses before but that was on 18-50 kit lens 2 years ago.
Right now I'm more interested in shrinking minimal focus distance so I can crop part of models face in camera. That way i would have IMHO incredible tool for portraits.))

I live in Croatia and it's hard to find Pentax accessories on used market:( That's why I look for close up lenses. They are easy to find here.
I'll have to switch brand:))))) Just kidding.)

---------- Post added 09-03-14 at 09:43 AM ----------

Thanx Bob! When you find some time to try it please do. I don't nead it for macro so I would be purcesing lens with less magnification but it should work the same.)
