Love this photo. The look on the dog's face is priceless. Also like the composition with the short focus point.

Thanks! It was rather dark so I had to really bump up my ISO or their movements would be blurry. This particular panda wasn't moving much which helped!

Hi, not in the wild but in a panda center in Chengdu. There are a few places you can go to see them including baby pandas. I've heard it's very hard to see them in the wild. That would be amazing. I have SO MANY photos from my trip but now that you have to pay for flickr I don't have a good way to share them anymore but as I go through them, I might share a few. It was an amazing trip.

Thanks!

Recently took a trip that started in Chengdu, through the Amdo Tibet region, then the Tibet Autonomous Region, and then ending in Kathmandu.

Here's a panda in Chengdu.

Welcome to the dark (and light) side... Thanks everyone for posting your photos. This was not an easy decision. I enjoyed the composition of all of the photos.

Winner - Kerrowdown's Edinburgh Steps:
Gritty, lone man, noir.

Honorable Mentions:
gump - the fog makes this shot special and I love the road leading off into the woods.
Hattifnatt - another foggy photo. Excellent framing of the pedestrians and the low shutter speed makes for a great photo.
ramseybuckeye's street shot - love this shot - I think it would be even better if the bright Legg Mason sign at the top were deleted.
SpecialK's Silent Movie Theatre - the lone woman in black entering the theatre really makes the shot.

Welcome to Weekly Challenge #460 - Urban B&W

We recently explored rural areas and squirrels, this week, I'd like to see urban (city or town) photos in black and white. Plus points for gritty/Film Noir-ish photos but anything goes as long as the photo is black and white or sepia and taken in a city or town. Have fun and make my job of judging difficult! I'm looking forward to seeing your photos.

Here are a few examples:

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

The Challenge will run until midnight Friday, 14 June, whichever time zone you are in.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

I like this theme. My father was a cotton farmer so I'm always interested in seeing farming practices wherever I travel. I took this photo in Yunnan, China.

I bought a no-name tripod on amazon awhile back that I really like - definitely cheap but it doesn't weigh a lot, folds down to a small size, and I like the features. It's a bit short but good for someone your height - I'm about an inch taller than you. I haven't had any issues with it yet but haven't had it that long. I used it when traveling to Grand Canyon and Monument Valley and really liked it, especially for the price. I don't know how heavy your equipment is but this works for my K3ii and a 55-300 zoom. I hung my backpack from the tripod to stabilize it when in wind and it seemed to work well.

I was just thinking the same thing. My heart goes out to the people of Paris who have treasured it for so long, and it's also a loss for the entire world. A place like that goes straight to your heart when you see it.
