k-1 with zeiss contax 35 70mm

The Leitax conversion seemed to be rather straight forward to me from Contax mount. I also have the Zeiss 2.8/25 ZF that I converted from Nikon mount that was somewhat more involved. I believe that anyone with moderate skills can accomplish these conversions. There is also the option to send the lens out for the work if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. At any rate, these lenses are great if you do not mind manual focus and aperture adjustment. Coming from many film era cameras I find the process rather familiar and not a problem at all.

I have owned the Contax Zeiss 35-70 for about a year and a half that has the Leitax adapter conversion that I put on it. This is the lens that is normally on my K1. I have several lenses, but this is the go to for most things. Attached is a grab photo from last evening, iso 800, f8, 1/500. First image is the full frame, second a crop of 100% view. i've never been dissatisfied with neither the camera or the lens.

50-135mm sdm lens auto focus failure

Ok! Thanks to all. I have a 50-135 that stopped working two years ago. I tried in vain to get it to work on my K3 and considered converting it to screw drive. Well, after reading this I thought why not dig it out. Nothing to lose! So I mounted it on my K1 and set the auto shut down to 10 minutes. Walked away. A short time later I came back and tried this cure. After several attempts and no response I moved the Af/Mf switch on the lens several times and got a sound! Went to live view and continued to work with it. Hesitant at first, but now fully functional! :) I'm amazed! Miracles do happen.

Thanks cmohr. There are some interesting pieces there. Still working on it! I am leaning toward "3 Legged Thing" parts at the moment. I am hoping to incorporate an electronic release.

Medium Format starter kit under $1k?

I owned several Bronica SQAi cameras during my film days and way too many lenses, including the Schneider 140-280 Variogon. Miss that lens. Never had a problem with them and the images were always satisfactory. Of course those were square format but I owned the 645 and 135 backs also. They were for studio use.

I believe that I could adjust to the portrait mode of the 645 rangefinder. It may be interesting to use the format for multi shot panorama landscape photos. The size and ergonomics are what have me interested. Just need to keep using the Z :)

regards, Ray

Interesting discussion. I too have been considering returning to some film use. Having had a darkroom for many years and various film formats I am now fully digital. Don't get me wrong, the K1 and 645Z are great, but I somehow am missing the darkroom. While I realize that this system is out of your specified price range, it is a camera that I had the opportunity to try out some years ago. I'm on the hunt for a bargain :) There are several old good reviews of the system.

Hmmm ... Good idea. This piece may make a good starting point. Two base plates would allow attachment to both tripod sockets to eliminate bracket rotation. Grip could be slipped on and off?

Yes, I realize that. I am not interested in a battery equipped grip or one that can control camera functions. I am interested in camera stability during hand held vertical situations. The grip could be hollow ideally, and as a bonus, have a button on top that could trip the shutter. The camera remote socket is at the right of the camera and would be able to be incorporated. Sounds as though it may be time to design my own? Three D printing comes to mind.

Is it just me? I think that I am spoiled. I own K5, K3, K1, all with the vertical grip. They all are so convenient to change orientation with. First it was the 645D and now there is the 645Z. Great cameras, but I sure do miss a vertical grip when I need portrait orientation. Anyone else miss that? Has anyone seen a solution?

I have four of these lights. Two Ultra 600 and two Ultra 1200. I purchased them used 21 years ago and they are still in use in my studio. At the time I thought it wise to purchase a spare flash tube " just in case ". It's still in the package. So ..... in my experience, I would say it sounds OK.

I had a similar thing happen to my 60-250 lens. Tried all the same avenues. " Send the lens to Precision" I was told. Finally ordered this foot from Ebay and just changed the broken part from the donor.
Perhaps this would work for yours?

Thanks for all the input. Having tried all of the above obvious things, it appears that the likely cause is the screw drive. Looks like it is manual focus or repair!

Auto focus stopped

Suddenly have an issue that has never come up before. I have K1 and K3 cameras. I normally leave an 18-55DA on the K3. It stopped focusing, just makes a chattering sound. It will not operate my 100WR macro either, but works just fine with the 60-250DA. I tried the lenses on the K3, all three work just fine.

Performed a reset on the K3, downloaded the current firmware update and reloaded it ( firmware was up to date ) Totally stumped. Has anyone else had this happen?
