(New K-mount lenses) The return of the revenge: Meyer Optik Görlitz by OPC Optics

Great images. The rendering should be a feature of the cooke triplet lens design (or modified cooke triplet in case of the primoplans). It is present across the different focal length lenses, available. Whether you modify the mechanics or move to modern glass should not really impact the out of focus rendering, but compairative images would show. It is also that out of focus rendering, why a lot of professsional photographers go for that lens (and not so much for the bubble effect).

It seems to me, you forgot one reference. Anyway, there is no comparison, but only statements.

The attitude towards this Cooke triplet 100mm lens, that is reflected here, without having 1:1 comparisons available, I do not understand.

That is correct. But the references & links made here by others to state the character has changed are references to the older new variant.

OPC has made it clear that it was a target to keep the character of the cooke triplet. I have seen no images of old new and new new that do contradict that statement.

Either you see it or you don't see it. If you don't see it, don't bother about the lens.

Aircraft industry was moving from Mechanical to Electrical to Optical information transmittal, and who knows what comes afterwards. Shape memory materials in lenses? The future is hard to imagine.

When the market is shrinking, the camera makers need to move to higher end models to sustain the business. That is also valid for Ricoh. Less models, more quality. The mass market is moving away from cameras as a stand alone tool.

All Lenses with screw drive AF, should work, all lenses with lens internal AF motor (DC, SDM, HSM, ...) would need to be focused manually. My experience. See also here: Autofocus of DSLR Lenses on Pentax Film Bodies - PentaxForums.com. I have a Z1, it can drive the aperture up to KAF3. For K and M lenses the usual procedure.

"Made in" is a merchandise mark and protected by regulations. If it says "Designed in Japan", you can be sure that it is manufactured outside Japan.

Well, there are many indicators that you have as a company. Used market is one. Then I assume a lot of the K-3 users switched to FF. Then your lens sales. Then your service business. I am sure in modern times social media image posting can be evaluated. Etc etc

Will we ever get a 400mm f2.8 lens for sports photographers?

I think a 400 2.8 lens is a great lens. That guy here just loves it: Radomir Jakubowski Naturfoto Camp and I love his award winning fotos. The weight of the most recent Canon version (Canon 2.8 400mm L IS III) is only 2.84kg.

I just don't think that this lens would be the right lens to do for Pentax. I still hope that we will see a 300 2.8 lens at some point in the future.

PS There are a lot of people who think a fast aperture isn't needed on a long telefoto. This is individual perception. I love the bokeh of the long telefoto (300@2.8; 400@2.8; 500@4, ...).

New information about new flagship's selling date

I wouldn't bet before knowing all parameters. There are too many unknowns. The volume may drive it in one way or the other. Electronics cost versus make & labor to assemble. The phase detect pixel you need on a MILC versus the module costs (e.g. AF) on a DSLR etc.

Initially they would have artifically high prizes to compensate for the loss in numbers of the reducing market i.e. technology introduction. Sony and Fuji add the lifestyle factor in addition. But the market pressure is so high, therefore is competition, these margins will very quickly come down.

Anyway, the camera is the smallest part. When I saw the cost for these new high end lenses, the DSLR will win. When reading the R mount or Z mount requirements, high grade lenses will cost more compared to DSLR lenses. Asnd the technology benefit appears small to me.

Offended? No, just not taking the same approach. Personally I am not willing to run a 2 brand set-up. I have the KP. I use it a lot for Sports also in bad light conditions. e.g. Youth soccer game age 15-16 old. ISO 6400, F2.8, DFA* 70-200. Individual shots, no issue, neither to focus nor the speed of focus. When AF.C i.e. tracking is concerned, the keeper rate reduces but still fine enough for me, to not think of alternatives.

For indoor situations without much movement, e.g. concert. I use the same set-up (may need the DFA DFA 24-70 F2.8 in addition). Never had an issue to focus in time.

It may well be that other set-ups are better (like the Nikon one, you mention), but with the keeper rate on indoor event I get, I would tend to disagree. For sports & birds where the movement is key, I guess we will see a significant improvement soon with the new APSC camera.

Anyway, if you have a better setup for yourself, use it. Image 1st then gear.

The Sports & Tele Customerbase is maybe 20% of the customer base for Pentax. And it lacks lenses e.g. 300 2.8. The macro customer base is not smaller. Modern cameras are multi purpose devices. It makes no sense to leave large parts of a community out, if you are a small size camera company.

We spoke about cameras, no?

Have you worked in any R&D environment? Are you sure, that you understand what R&D is? You are quoting the cost structure of products here (in different countries, in different areas of a country), which have very little to do with the R&D costs.

The R&D resource cost contribution to the release of a new product is usually the smallest part in the cost structure of a new product.

I assume you have never worked in an R&D environment, have you?
