Second month using a Macro lens in the SIC. Compared to last month's screw mount macro Takumar 50mm, this month with the SMC A 100mm Macro 2.8 seemed to go much easier, probably because I wasn't limited to the manual exposure metering thanks to the lens having the A series contacts. The shallower depth of field and increased lens to subject distance made the lens easier to handle and work with was well. I need to try focus stacking with this lens in the future, something the shallow depth of field would lend itself to. It is a solid chance of glass with the solid feel of the A Series lenses, a long throw for focusing easily and the subject seems to pop into sharp focus easily which helps with the manual focusing of this lens. Typical Pentax colours and contrast with the ability to give some nice starburst images when used as a regular lens. The ability to use my ring flash in auto mode was also a bonus in terms of ease of use. I had a poor month personally and this lens made it easy to make something from nothing with safety shots, I will give it another run when I am able as I really like using this lens, Thanks for selling it to me Robbie :)

Sandy, Excellent news, it is a great little lens and Ismo travelling as well, roll on November. I have a week away at the start of October so as a nice landscape/travel lens , I think I will go with the HD DA 15-30mm 2.8, I haven't tried it in the SIC yet.

Pentax Reverse Ring Light Holder K located

It is really lens dependent, an aperture ring on the older macro lenses make is much easier, however any of the newer lenses apertures are electronically controlled but don't work in reverse as well as the older lenses. The PTTL has limited manual exposure options down to 1/16th power and only gives full power on any of the auto settings, generally overexposing the subject even if -5 stops is dialled in on the body exposure

Thanks for posting the instructions, I have one but have not seen the instructions before. Yes it does work with the af160fc except that without the electronics it behaves by giving full power flash as the auto settings cannot read the lens info when reversed. Otherwise it just protects the aperture lever and give you a 49mm filter ring to screw any of the ring flashes in to. Nice find :)

Many lenses actually perform better in reverse on the bellows, 28mm and 50mm lenses, so a screw mount 49mm or 52mm reversing ring will be quick and cheap

The SMC A 100mm Macro is a quality, easy to use lens, stuck inside it has been easy to find subjects and hopefully when the weather improves I look forward to getting outside for some bug and flower shots.

Thanks , I have done 10 years of relieving work previously , I compared my pay packet full time vs part time and I can make more money just working 3 days a week and all care no responsibility , easy choice :)
Hmm now which language to learn :)

I like the idea that you are fearless, the nice red pop works well too
I hear what you say about, "Work Home Rinse Repeat", so I gave my 4 weeks notice 3.5 weeks ago and am heading down the relieving route for work rather than full time, sort of part of the so called great resignation. This morning I too tested positive to Covid 19 so now that last half week will be spent at home in isolation! So as I will now be travelling around the countryside with work, my photo opportunities should increase and I hope that sparks my own photo journey. :)

I think some Karate thoughts have infected your mind, not leaving any room for your photo mind to play. Perhaps you can do a selfie photo diary of your training and present it along with your new belt when you finish this level. Enjoy :)

Hmm simple, single in or daily in challenge, I have the camera at hand to take at least 1 photo every day, it keeps me looking out for photo opportunities and helps me try different techniques and exercise my mind and equipment, some days are brilliant some days are blah, but it keeps me engaged with my hobby.
Looking at what others are photographing from around the globe also helps me through and in dark cold winter , the sunny shots from the other side of the world makes me feel good.

Umm just a word of warning, the newer lenses lack an aperture ring which can come in handy when using the things you used to use , bellows and extension tubes, they are really handy to play with when using macro subjects and worth thinking about

SMC PENTAX-A MACRO 1:2.8 100mm seems like the choice for me, Spring coming, flowers, insects, variable weather, not to mention it flew half way around the world from RobbieC, so I really have to try it out

Wow, thank you so much, not surprisingly this also was the method that helped me get in to clean the fungus from my SMC PENTAX M 1:3.5 150mm, exactly the same setup and the hairdryer to remove the rubber focusing ring is just right

Wow that is a question, my answer is the magical F* 300mm 4.5, small , sharp and just fits nicely with my vision of photo making, added bonus is that every time I look at it I get reminded of Star Wars.......
