This is interesting about Aperture still working in High Sierra. I thought Aperture stopped working altogether at some point after a certain OS release. I am not an Aperture user myself but I know several people that tried to to move to LightRoom under the impression they had to as Aperture was going to stop working. There really wasn't an eminent need to after all.

I upgraded an SSD drive to High Sierra. I have been able to use ACR in Adobe Photoshop CS4 without any issues. I primarily only use PhotoShop for ACR so I can not say if any other parts of PSCS4 might not be working properly. Indesign CS4 isn't working in High Sierra. Illustrator CS4 opens files etc. DreamWeaver CS4 launches normally.

Thanks Isimpkins. This clears things up for me. I thought that's what it all meant.

Basically all I need is ACR. I prefer using ACR through Photoshop. It seems rather ridiculous Adobe even having the stand alone pricing for Photoshop when they are offering it at half the price in the Photography bundle.

I file manage through Adobe Bridge. Adobe allows the use of Bridge CC for free.

Someone mentioned the Adobe pricing bundle of Lightroom and Photoshop which is something like $120US for the yearly subscription. Is the Photoshop a full version or an Elements light version of Photoshop? If it is a full version of Photoshop the pricing doesn't make any sense as Adobe wants $240US yearly fee for Photoshop as a stand alone app.

What is the catch? To use the Photoshop in the bundle you must use Lightroom or something. I don't need Lightroom at all. Or any other organizer type software. If you pay for the bundle can you just install Photoshop. I also have no need for "cloud" storage or services. People are making it sound like the only way to use Lightroom CC is everything is uploaded to the cloud instead of on your own storage. Adobe can not be making it that insane.

Not to state the obvious but the K-3ii is a clear replacement for the K-5 across the board. Viewfinder. Sensor. Features i.e. pixel shift astrotracer WiFi etc. The K-3ii feature wise is still the best APS-C DSLR for any brand. For the price the K-3ii is selling now it is a real steal.

I hope this new Canon GX1 is a move other manufactures will take. This GX1 is very small. 24-70 is a very nice focal range. As long as it produces sharp distortion free images.

Ricoh/Pentax should have three compact APS-C cameras. Ricoh GR naturally. Ricoh GRZoom. And a Pentax GRish APS-C with a 28mm ƒ2 lenses for a ~40mm 35mm eq. field of view. All three should be weather sealed.

I still think there is room for a Pentax Mirco-4/3rds Q sized camera modeled on the Auto 110. That line had something like 5 lenses. That's all they need. Three primes. A zoom and a CineZoom.

A small compact zoom with a decent sized sensor and WR that does RAW files is the niche to go for. The Ricoh WG series does not do RAW which is a real shame. I think Olympus is the only rugged compact that does RAW.

I have always felt Ricoh should either have a small Micro 4/3rd mount labeled body or turn the Pentax Q into a Micro 4/3rd mount modeled on the form factor of the 110 film camera.

As Mirco 4/3rd has multiple participants there is a large pool of Micro 4/3rd users to buy Ricoh/Pentax Micro 4/3rd lenses.

Eric for printing purposes color accuracy is most important. For the money this Benq SW2700PT delivers near 99% of AdobeRGB which is better to achieve printing accuracy of what you see on the screen and what the print will look like.

Another important factor for photo editing is color accuracy of the monitor. You want something that can handle 10 billion colors that reaches near 100% Adobe RGB.

BenQ has some excellent monitors for photo editing that are reasonably priced.

I have only ever used Bridge to manage my files for at least 15 years. I still use Apple's Image Capture app to download my images to were and how I want them stored. Then use Bridge to navigate the archive.

The Bridge can handle the mapping tags too. I have customized the Bridge to have the Content and Filter panels to the right next to each other. In the middle I have the Preview panel taking up as much space as possible. The left side I have Folders on top with Metadata below.

When you do a right click on the Aperture app you get the option to Show Package Contents. This gives you access to the archive of images stored inside. It should just be a simple Chronological folders by Year with images stored by month and day inside. You can copy that archive from inside Aperture to another place then use Bridge to access all those files stored in Aperture without any exporting or importing.

I see now TonyW.

I did not realize the Flexcolor software was only for use with the scanner. I thought it was a stand alone that handled .fff files. The irony is that the .fff stands for Flexible File Format.

Since the digital age I have not used film really in 15 years. I do have the Epson 4990 Photo scanner from 2005. I have maintained the most up to date versions of Silverfast for it which Lasersoft keeps supporting. At some point Silverfast allowed scanning HDR RAW scans as a DNG file. The DNG files are direct negative scans like the .fff files are so in Adobe ACR you have to adjust a negative image then invert after creating a new file. Having a high res DNG file helps reduce repeated scans of the same image.

This feature was introduced in Silverfast to save as DNG files long after I wasn't scanning film any more so I haven't really explored the added benefits. For anyone scanning film I don't think they can go wrong with Lasersoft's Silverfast. They have good support for most all film types.

TonyW I think that plugin may only work for PS CS2 to CS6. I am only on CS4.

If you can set up an account with Hasselblad's website they actually give you free access to all the needed software including Flexcolor and the PS plugins as far as I can tell. I can not seem to create an account to log in. It could be you need to register a product.

TonyW the X3F plugin supplied in that download worked for me with CS4. From what I read if you change the .fff file to .tif you loose the none destructive nature of the .fff file.

Are you able to download the Phocus software from the Hasselblad website for free? It says that it is a free download. I wasn't able to create an account to give it a try. That would give the best results. The Phocus software is Flexcolor essentially.

butangmucat, I found this site Know How Transfer that offers scans such as the ones you had done for €7 each. At the bottom of that page they have a Free 3F package download that includes Flexcolor, the X3F plugin for PS and three .fff files to test the scans. It is a large download as it includes both Mac and Window installers. The three .fff images are >100mb each.

I was able to install the PS plugin which allowed me to open the supplied .fff files in Photoshop. I couldn't get the Flexcolor software to install with an error that the installer wasn't a recognized developer.

What type of scanner might you have yourself? Adjusting the color at point of scan is the best way to attain the color you want. I don't do much scanning but I have always used LaserSoft Silverfast on a now ancient Epson 4990. The latest versions of Silverfast allows you to actually scan negatives as DNG files.

Thanks ajack.

By no means are they professional. Just a senior citizen that had been using Aperture. They were told to move to LR which they where having a hard time understanding. It took me a while to convince them to stop using the Magic Mouse which was causing 90% of the problems with the touch sensitive nature to such devices.

If they contact me again I will suggest trying Photos. I don't think they were using Aperture in a way they can not do the same things in Photos.

ajack this is interesting as a Senior I have tried to help who first moved from Aperture to LR was having a hard time working in LR. I wasn't much help with LR as I don't use it myself.

A better route I could do for them might be to import there old Aperture archive into Photos which will be more familiar to them. Does this keep the basic keywords/albums etc from Aperture? Are Photos editing tools similar to what they were used to in Aperture like simple cropping etc?

They are ready to give up as they are having a hard time dealing with the switch.

butangmucat as I have never delt with files from a Hassie Flextight X5 something was being misunderstood.

On further inquire it appears you need to get the Imacon 3F Plugin for Photoshop to open the .fff files without having the Flexcolor software. I am not sure how you can do that. It may be possible to get the plugin for free without having to own the Flexcolor software. Maybe the place you had the scans done included the Imacon 3F Plugin for photoshop with the scans?

It may even be possible to obtain the Flexcolor software by simply creating an account at the Hasselblad website. From my short research the best results are obtained through the Flexcolor software than from the Imacon 3F Plugin in Photoshop.

butangmucat the main problem is that the lab didn't properly scan your negatives from the start. First it looks like they scanned the whole stripes at once. Each image should be scanned separately. Second they didn't scan the negatives as positive images which would give you the correct color and not the orange color of the actual negatives.

abruzzi have you ever tried using Adobe Bridge for file management. Since you have CS6 you can use the Bridge to manage your archive and ACR with CS6 for RAW editing. I am still using ACR with CS4. There are a lot of editing tools in ACR. Adobe will even let you use the latest version of Bridge CC 2017 for free.

NS_Sailor you could have taken all the images from the same position the pixel shift image was taken so they all benefited from being stationary and maintaining the same motif. A good substitute for a handrail is a tripod. :^)

BullsOnParade81 you created a nice silhouette of an eagle. As a 3/4 portrait you could make the crop in a 3:2 aspect ratio and remove the talons portion of this image. There is a saying to not cut off hands and feet. As a full length image I would rather see all of the talons and the tail feathers. From the original image this of course can not be achieved. Maybe you have another image from the day that the entire eagle is captured.

Shakey the morale is not be be so shaky. :^) I am certain you can find that horse sitting down for a rest in that spot everyday. Your composition has a nice balance of positive and negative shapes. This really shows in the B&W version.

Shakey the image is suffering from camera motion blur which makes it lack sharpness. You are shooting at the extreme end of the zoom plus the use of the teleconverter amplifies any movement of the camera. If you were sitting in an idling car could be enough to add such blur. It looks like it was a very bright day and your subject is in shadow which adds to getting a proper exposure from such a far distance for a high contrast area.

I don't mind the subject and composition. What makes the image look blah is a lack of tonal range the way you have set it up. There are a lot of simple ways to correct this.

The image works well in B&W:

Tonytee the rose certainly looks a little roughed up. It appears to have gone through a good rain storm forcing it open prematurely. You did a nice job of framing a pleasing angle that makes it no less a rose. If you shot this in RAW you can easily adjust the color to a more natural state. For this JPG using Photoshop's Channel mixer removing the color cast reveals much more detail. There is a team of insects on the petals.

I don't mind the background. It looks like it was a bright sunny day.

TonyTee your question is rather vague without details like color space, RAW vs JPG etc. A good photograph in what sense? Compositionally it works nicely for an image of a rose. What is not working for this photograph is the tone and color. A simple auto-Tone correction will fix the flatness to the tonal range. The red channel is drowning out the rest of the detail. Adobe RGB can cause this type of red cast. For the sRGB JPG you uploaded It can be removed with PS Channel mixer.
