I have 2 suggestions.
  • Multiple Emotions - not just anger, or just enthralled, but a picture that has at least 2 or more emotions

  • Comparisons - this seems broad, it doesn't matter where you live, what your hobby is, or what your favorite subject is

Not sure what I'm doing here, but trying to give you a link to Pentax Forums, Everything Else, check Feb 29, 2008.

I asked a very similar question and got a lot of helpful responses. Hopefully this thread will give you some more help.

Investment (Camera) Protection

Considering the following:

- Most of us would hang on to our camera equipment as tightly as we would a 2 year old todler
- Most of us would not want to place extra intentional markings on the outside of the body or a lens
- Many of us don't like giving out our personal information
- Most of us know if the camera is stolen, we will likely never see it again.

However, if your camera is stolen or lost, is there an effective way to have some personal identification with the camera in case it is recovered?

Does anyone do anything more than keeping track of the make, the model and serial number?

Our local paper suggested keeping a permanent file on the SD (or equivalent) card with your name and International phone number.

Are there any other suggestions or tips?

Thanks

What does any of this have to do with Pentax? There is another thread for off topic discussion; that is where this belongs, not here

The average DSLR owner

I used P&S for many years and decided I wanted a DSLR. But I knew that I didn't know very many details and specifics.

I knew aperture was the "opening" but I didn't know about DOF. I knew about focal length but really didn't really understand what it meant and how to use it. I knew about shutter speed but didn't know it's realtion to aperture.

All that said was to say that I knew I had a lot of studying to do to even get going, but it did not deter me from getting my K10D. Many of you kind forum friends have helped my knowledge base considerably.

I think the problem is when folks buy a DSLR and they "don't know" what they don't know.

Boy that was confusing but hope you understood my ramblings.

Now that is nice and simple, I will definitely give it try.

Now I can tell my wife I'm thinking about her every time I run for the camera. (She'll never believe it)

Getting My Mind Out of P&S Thinking

I seem to be having a tough time transitioning from P&S thinking, (see something cool, grab the camera, and shoot) vs my new DSLR (see something cool, grab the camera, and shoot - but first which lens to I need, is the WB set correctly from last nights inside low light setting, is the ISO correct, etc.)

After you put your gear away for the "day", do you put your camera in a specific "mode" or setting so you can move quickly the next time?

Is there a mental or written check list to think about? I always seem to mess up 1 or 2 shots at first then remember I need to reset something I forgot in the rush.

Looking for some ideas,
Thanks

DA lens vs Macro Tube

I tried on the DSLR thread and only got one response. Maybe I'll get more takers on this thread.

I just bought a new set of macro extension tubes for my K10D and they work wonderful on my M 50mm 1.7. But when I use it on my newer DA lenses (kit 18-55, or 50-200) I can't see anything through the viewfinder except some very dark gray spots. Even placing an object under bright lights doesn't help.

Do maco tubes work on lens without an aperture ring or not?
Am I setting up something wrong or do the tubes only work with a manual aperture?
Is there a "procedure" I need to follow to use DA lens with the tubes?

Yes I'm using full M mode..

Thanks for any help here.

For those in the US or those in any other country that have to fill out personal tax forms will understand; I just completed my US taxes and my brain hurts. I'm not thinking clearly right now and can't figure out some things and decided to ask so I don't mess something up on my K10D

I have two questions one on lens capability and one subjective on new vs older lens.

1. I just bought a new set of macro extension tubes and they work wonderful on my M 50mm 1.7. Yes I'm using full M mode..

2. Subjective: I've noticed that used manual focus A 50mm 1.4 in mint condition vs a brand new FA 50mm 1.4 are only a few dollars difference ($150+ vs $195). Is the older manual lens really that much of a value or am I shopping with lens collectors. Prices on excellent older lens seem high compared to a brand new lens.? Any thoughts appreciated...

This thread has taken a strange twist. My intent here was not to second guess TSA or other insperctors rights, responsibilities, or duties.

I hate taking my shoes off but I do. If I have to unpack my stuff I will but I don't have to like doing it.

I had hoped we could talk about the best and efficient ways to get your camera equipment through security with the least amount of hassle. Do's and don'ts so to speak.

I travel a lot and appreciate security, not an issue to me. Just want to have some fun by bringing my stuff along.

Thanks for all your thoughts.

Thanks for your comments.

I have this nightmare about going through security and them wanting to take my camera body and open it and check for stuff inside the camera near the mirror and sensor. Twisting and turning the lens, getting to close to all the sensitive parts, checking and tapping glass, etc.

Sounds like I've been watching too many spy movies.

Appreciate any more tips on traveling vs equipment.

Although I'm a rookie, would apprciate some advice on the best ways, precatuions, etc to carry my equipment through modern day airport security systems.

My specific questions would include:
- What is OK to hand carry and what is not? (can you carry batteries and spares through security in carry on bags?
- What is the best way to pack your body and lenses? leave a lens attached or keep the body separte from each lens?
- Will security make you take the camera out of the bag like they do laptop computers?
- Since you cannot effectively lock your checked baggage anymore, is there anything that you should put in that bag?

Thanks in advance for your tips. I want to be able to take my stuff with me, but know that airports can be a major hassle and I don't want other people handling my equipment.

I definiely had the first tiime buyer jitters but I would buy again in a minute from Youngster. He took the time to answer all my questions, shipped fast, packed well, and it made me wish he had a camera shop nearby so I could give him more business.

If the product and price are right, I'll buy again.

K10D price increase at B & H

I got my K10D at Beach camera in December 2007, great price, but noticed right after January 1, 2008, price went up just under $40.00 for the Kit.

I assumed that after the holiday season prices might go down a little, not up. Glad I purchased in December.

Don't understand why the price would increase, but it does not make a lot of sense to me that the increase would be because of a new product yet to be released. Guess that is why I'm not in marketing.
