I hit a record high for me on a trip to Europe that I just got back from, I saw TWO Pentax cameras in use in Ravenna, Italy (can I count mine for three, LOL!) in the same day, Sept. 29th! The next day I saw another in Dubrovnik, Croatia! I think one of the guys was from Australia and the other guy was from Winnipeg, Canada. (I'm not sure there the third was from.) That beats my previous all time total of one Pentax seen on the last trip and that was in Rome, Italy last year.

Ok, I saw your picture of the rear, different boat than the one I saw, proof that there is a lot of disposable income on this planet. I can't believe the yachts/sailboat's I saw in the Medi the last few weeks!

I keep tugging at mine and it seems like it's on there as solid as ever. I wonder if high heat or something environmental causes it, my camera has not been in too many temperature extremes. I hope I didn't just jinx myself!

K-01 Battery/Charger question

Interesting, stuff, never really paid much attention to it. FWIW: My K50 has a four terminal battery and the charger has four terminals but the camera only uses three so that 'D' terminal must have something to do with charging, as someone has suggested.

Wow, what a find! I just shot my first film in 17 years a couple of weeks ago in my old ME Super. You need to fire that thing up!

Here just some shots to see if the camera was working! I shot with an ME in the that I bought new in the 80's. It looks like my last film shots were 17 years ago, until last week. I have a K100D, K01, and K50. I plan on shooting film off and on just for kicks. Oh, I have a Nikon coolscan V ED that I bought to scan in hundreds of slides, that's done. I was actually kind of surprised the old camera still worked!

Not sure if this will help you but there's another thread around here on using the PC/AV socket, it's a 'sort of' tethering solution. You need the right cable for the AV/PC plug. It's not HD, it's standard def but it might help you out.

That other thread referred to a part: Elna America DCK-3R3E204T614-E
Does that part work for the K-01?

rubber flap over the card compartment door

I'll admit, I was one of the people that was worried about the flap early on, there were threads on it. Mine is fine and I'm used to it's use now. I suppose at some future point the rubber will become brittle and break, not sure how many years that will take!

Ya, I was one of those that was really worried about that when I bought mine, that is some seriously good rubber (or what ever it is).
I use my k01 a lot, the only real 'issue' I have with mine is seeing the LCD in bright light, like has been talked about a lot. I love the light weight and everyone behind my back saying, 'what kind of camera is that' type comments, LOL! I take the k50 out when the light is bright!

Right, there's another thread around here on using the PC/AV socket. Make sure you get/have the right cable. I played around with it once and the video quality is pretty good.

Yes, it's true, a Pentax exec said during an interview a month or two ago that over 1/2 the worldwide Pentax sales are in Japan. I often wondered what their market was like and that's the first time I've ever heard it stated. It might have been around the time of one of the K3 announcements.

My only regret is that I didn't get it with the 40mm, that was a mistake, the prices as so low I don't know what I was thinking, lol!

Yes, it was a 'bridge' type of camera but not those two models, something a lot older. I'd never seen it before and didn't realize Pentax ever made anything like it, I think the guy was from the far east, it was digital. That reminds me, when I was on a guided boat tour (in Alaska) the tour operator said he would help with cameras, I told him I'll bet he'd never seen one of these before, I had my K50 and K01, he said he had seen Pentax before, one of his buddies had one! I wish I would have taken a picture of it now!

I was on a cruise with 2,000 other people and was watching camera action the whole time. I saw one other Pentax and it was one that I hadn't seen before, some type of fixed lens smaller than a DSLR type thing. I don't think it was ever sold in the US. Anyway, Pentax is a very, very small market.

HDMI output?

Ok, it's not HDMI but my cable showed up so I fired up the PS One LCD that I bought years ago (I was thinking about using it for a backup camera screen in the pickup but bought an in dash unit instead). This is going to work fine, it's not a very good picture of the test setup (I'll try again if there is any interest) but the picture on the LCD will work for focusing, etc. It runs on 7.5 volts so I'll need to build a little rechargeable battery pack for it. The LCD is around 5 inches (diagonal) so the whole unit is already fairly small. BTW: Just tested with the K-50 and it works fine with that also.

This is interesting, I have a LCD from a Sony portable video game player that I might be able to use in a 'sun resistant' enclosure. This could be a fun project. I've never heard of USB/AV.

That's interesting, I actually thought it would take a lot longer than that. Is there any cheap (cheaper than Edius) software that you would recommend?
