The Tammy is tack sharp IMHO (my copy was) but I sold it to purchase my DA300.
AF was kinda slowish on the Tamron, lens was bit heavy but the images just popped!
I'm no expert but I agree that it might be your technique that needs a little help.

What lens for the 15 second exposure, will the 50 be "small" enough for 15 seconds?

Thanks again,

Comet pan-starrs .........

(C/2011 L4) makes its closest approach to the sun inside the orbit of Mercury. As the comet swings by the sun it is also crossing the celestial equator, moving from southern to northern skies. First sightings of the comet are now coming in from the northern hemisphere. Halda Mohammed sends this picture from Kulim, Kedah, Malaysia (latitude +5o N):
"After several days of comet hunting at dusk, on March 8th I finally caught a glimpse of my first comet ever - Comet PanSTARRS," says Mohammed. "Wonderful! I plan to try again tonight."
If the low clouds part, he'll probably see it again. Worldwide observers report that the comet is glowing about as brightly as a 2nd magnitude star, similar to the stars of the Big Dipper. Technically, that makes it a naked-eye object. The only problem is bright evening twilight, which competes with the glow of the comet. Look low and west after sunset; if you can't see the comet, try scanning the horizon with binoculars.
Dates of special interest include March 12th and 13th when the comet passes not far from the crescent Moon. The tight conjunction on the 12th provides a splendid opportunity for sunset photographers. Sky maps: March 12, March 13,
Visibility will improve next week as the comet moves away from the sun. When it is framed by darker skies, Pan-STARRS should become an easy target for naked eyes and small telescopes alike. Check the realtime comet gallery for the latest images.

I plan to take several images of the comet (looks like the weather will not be a factor) on the 12th and 13th using my K-5 & Sigma 50mm f1.4, does anyone have any "optimal" settings that I should use for starters?

Thanks as always,
Ray

The only thing I will miss is the stellar ISO of the K-5, I was looking at the new Panny with the constant F2.8 28X lens.
What do you all think?

Thanks again,

Colbyt,

I really like my legacy lenses, that's one of the reasons I stuck with Pentax....I even bought more of them as time went on.
I might loose a bit of money but that would be expected, and NO, I will not change my mind.

I will list my stuff on these forums in the next couple of weeks after I figure out what the "stuff" is worth (and after I pay.................)
If anyone would like to give me a few pointers please PM me.

Thanks again,
Ray

Nick,

I recieved my K-5 last May and the shutter count is <100, it might of been a slow year but that is rediculous.

I love the Pentax cameras!
I gave my K100DS to my brother, than I gave my K20D to the same brother, now that I got my K-5 I think I lost the passion (and my brother ain't gettin' it!).
When I had my K1000 I shot several rolls a week and it was fun, now it seems not so, maybe it has to do with my age?
I think I jumped the gun (as I always do with some of my hobbies) and dumped to much money into digital. It has nothing to do with buyers remorse because I really like the hobby, it has to do with how good the photographer is.....I think this was lost with the film era.

I think I have made up my mind and will sell my "rig" and purchase a bridge camera.
I enjoy the hobby but, I just plain and simple do not use my gear that often and don't have the time to PP my images (I shoot mostly Jpeg anyway).

I have a decent setup and it would probably be benificial for me to free up the $....anyone want to talk me out of it?

Thanks as always,
Ray
