Carry on vs checked baggage for camera Equipment

no not really, a bag is a minimum of 1kg with padding. So only 4kg for gear etc, and that is not a lot. But a nice trick is to put all you want in the bag and weigh it. Then take lenses etc out until uou reach the limit. Then you know what can go in the bag and what not. And at the check in, then just put what is needed in pockets, and when you are checked in, back in the bag.

Photographing a band in a bar

I have the 40 and the 35 myself, but for the bar shoot, I would go with the 35. It is already super nice wide open, and will give you a slightly wider view. I bar shoots and then the 34 is my favorite.

But I think you can go down with your shutterspeed, if the band is pretty static, I would even do a few shots at 1/100. But if they move a lot, then 1/160 should be enough.

But good luck with ISO1600, I would say more realistic is ISO3200-6400, unless the stage is well lit.

I tried once to watch one of his video's, couldn't stand it.

Which camera these days make bad photo's? I don't know any of them. All the negativity is just nit picking on details that nobody will see in photo's, unless they will use a microscope. And all the other stuff is just personal taste.

Tripod...do you use, or not use.

I do use tripods. For long exposure shots. For macro work. For sports.

Long exposure shots, well that is pretty obvious.
Macro work. It does take time and patience, and it can be so much easier with a tripod.
sports. I do shoot surf with long and heavy lenses. after a while you do not want to have it in your hand anymore, and you will be happy it is resting on a tripod.

Running Bag?

If you could find them (they stopped making bags earlier this year). Clik elite had very good bags that you could use for running.
The probody sport sounds right for you. The cloudscape is also very nice, but might be too small for the K-1. Then the Obscura would be better, but I think that one will be too big for running.

21 mm or 35 mm 'walk around' on aps-c???

I have the 21 and the 35 2.4 lenses. And both are great as walkaround lenses. It also depends on my mood and where I go, which one I will put on the camera.
But then again, they are so small and light, I sometimes also just take both.

The pixelshift conclusion is wrong. The dynamic pixel shift is an extra, you can still use the tradidional pixel shift

Naneu has a trekking backpack which also has a camera compartment. Photo - camera bags and cases, rolling dslr bags, adventure dslr backpack I just don't think they will be great for cycling.
Otherwise you could look at the range of fstop gear f-stop || Modular Camera Backpacks and Accessories

Kickstart Pinhole Pro: Professional Pinhole Lens Includes Pentax K

I did back up the wide angle one for $38 US. So it's a sweet deal (price does double thou for sending it to Europe). But is just so much fun to use the original one, that i just ordered this one too.

And there is a reason for the pinholepro to be that big. They need the space to be able to turn the pinhole apertures with gears. and that does take space.

Pentax APS-C Dead-End?

To be honest, you have very little experience with AF lenses to be complaining about them.

I have the 16-45, and I get very good results out of it, even wide open.

I have a sigma 8-16, excellent results.

I have a tamron 28-75, excellent results (aslong as you don't shoot wide open at 75mm).

I have a Tamron 70-200 excellent results

I have a Pentax 80-200, excellent results concidering it is an old cheap lens. Just don't use it wide open.

So there are plenty of excellent lenses which you can use on APS-C sensors. But as with all things, not everything is equal. Even with quality control, bad copies will seep through the gaps. If you happen to get one of those, bad luck. But it doesn't represent the majority of it.

And with the 20-40. Yes they could have started at 16 or 17mm, but then it wouldn't be so small, or IQ would be less, or the aperture would start smaller.

Look at the latest lenses from Sigma All very good, very sharp, all large aperture lenses, and all very big. To have it all, you will have to pay the price, in money, and in size. there is no other way around it (yet)

Well for landscape I would say either an F-stop, Clike Elite or Mindshift backpacks are the way to go.

Clik Elite | Camera Bags, Camera Backpacks, DSLR Bags & Camera Cases

MindShift Gear - Outdoor Camera Bags, Camera Backpacks, Photo Gear

All three makers make very good backpacks, and all of them have their own cons and pros. it all depends on what you want. My choice is Clik Elite, because I like their fit on my back. But with any of them you cannot go wrong. And it also all depends on what else you want to take besides your camera.

well, there are many options, but more details are needed. Are you going outdoors, or just commuting in the city?
