I just put a step up ring to convert it to 49mm. Since all DA Ltd are 49mm I can use the same pinch cap/filter on all of them.

There's an additional benefit of doing it backwards. I don't have to teach whoever I hand the camera to that AF is a separate button. A lot of times the picture came out blurry cuz of it in the past.

Talk me out of buying the HD DA20-40?

I needed something to replace my broken 16-50mm with WR and picked one of these up. No regrets. I also have 21mm and 40mm but WR is somewhat important when I travel. But just ask if you really need it or if you just want it...

Is this Normal for HD DA 20-40?

Lenses have variation. If the focus is off, small aperture may or may not hide it that's why focus adjustment exists.

Mine was producing similar image until I did focus adjustment on my camera. I needed +5 in my case. Also, I find that first focus confirmation tend not to be complete in focus and it would readjust itself a bit and then it is spot on. I don't know how 'normal' that is. (Edit: actually this is true only because I'm always in AF.C mode. AF.S doesn't seem to have this problem.)

But if the barrel isn't even straight, you should be able to see uneven sharpness if shooting something flat.

Thanks for the tests. I always wondered how accurate the stated numbers were. Especially for cell phone replacement batteries on eBay, they are mostly lies.

Decentered DA 16-50, worth fixing?

I recently dropped my DA 16-50. Mechanically it's fine but I noticed that decentering has gotten worse. There used to be very slight decentering before. However, now the left 1/3 of the image is unusable at if aperture is wider than f4 otherwise it pretty much goes away. Is it worth sending it in? I have heard that fixing decentering is iffy and I assume I'll lose the weather sealing after a repair which makes me want to replace it instead.

I've never sent anything to be repaired. How does billing work? When I go to Precision Camera it shows a base charge. Will they charge more, depending on the problem and bill me again?

I guess Ricoh can respond by going bigger sensor if they can be made at reasonable prices, I doubt Fuji's lenses will cover full size MF... lol

I use a separate gps logger device that just sits in my bag or pocket. Then you map the images to gps locations afterwards based on time stamp in Lightroom. Pretty straight forward.

DXO mark tests the Pentax K-1

Gotta love Tony Northrup's enthusiasm in PetaPixel's story for this DXO Mark result... Pentax K-1 a 'Full-Frame Marvel,' Third Best ILC DxOMark Has Ever Tested

"Honestly baffled by DxOMark's results. We tested this SO carefully against the D810 and, in our side-by-side tests, we simply couldn't distinguish the pictures. The noise at any ISO looked exactly the same... we even did blind tests with multiple nit-picky photographers. DXOMark shows that the K1 is about 15% cleaner than the D810, which I think we would have been able to see.

I'm also confused because we determined that ISO 100 on the K1 was actually about ISO 50 (about the same as ISO 64 on the D810)... but their ISO sensitivity scores show that the K1 is true to ISO... making it literally the first digital camera to stay true to ISO rankings.

Not the first time that DxOMark's scores completely diverge from our own test results... notably the a7S and 1DX II never looked as clean to us as it did to them."

Fstoppers Reviews the Pentax K-1

That's like saying Google has failed in Android because a person coming from iOS doesn't understand that Android works differently. Pentax AF-C isn't up to par, we get it; but it's more than adequate as oppose to completely useless like some people want to portrait it as. One has to learn the tool in hand. Even jumping between Canon and Nikon requires some adjustments why is it a requirement for Pentax to match everything to either one?

There's definitely a certain rhythm to Pentax's AF that doesn't seem to jive with the general crowd that are used of Cannikon systems. Thus, keeper rate is higher for those familiar with it while everyone shooting K-1 just for reviews isn't going to get the same results, imo.

I imagined you need PLM design for a lens to be able to change focus quickly and rapidly similar to MILC lenses, which means other DC lenses won't be able to focus as fast.

I always find it interesting that Voigtlander can come out with slow lenses and people will praise its rendering and compactness. If it's anyone else everyone just focuses on how slow the lens is.

Eye-Fi X2 Pro and earlier Cards - Support Discontinued as of 30 June 2016

It's stupid that they can't even guarantee user to fall back to direct mode. I bought the Pro cards a few years ago and discovered how pain in the butt it is to switch the destination (I.e. to my mobile device while on the road and to my NAS while I'm home). Making that simpler without the cloud has been a feature many people asked for a long time. I never understood the praises for the product. Glad most cameras are starting to have wifi built in. As crappy as the apps are, it's still more functional than Eye-Fi for my workflow. I'll never recommend EyeFi to anyone especially after seeing this email. Hopefully someone will take the time to hack it open now.

Only thing I don't get about Tony is just that all he cares is sharpness and correctness of a lens so he's dead set on the notion that non digital optimized lenses aren't worth while. smh
