MZ-S.......can they be repaired????

I have 2 MZ-S's, both have a 484**** serial # (actually only 33 numbers between them) with Asahi Optics Co. First had only 3 rolls, the other 62 according to the leader imprinting. Both are working great no issues, plan to use as I would any other camera and not worry whether they have a plastic gear or not. They are wonderful camera, just use it, enjoy it and if it breaks deal with repair then or buy another. Remember there's other way a camera can break down, all cameras will eventually break or need some kind of service.

Yet another adventure: Restoring a K2

Not a problem

Be careful removing the prism, there's small circuit board on top. Wouldn't recommend removing the old foam on the prism, just remove the crumbling stuff gently with a toothpick and place 1mm thick foam over the top, basically incapsulate the old foam. If you try to remove the old stuff, you'll more than likely remove the black paint & silver coatings.

PM me if you have any questions.

Yes, counterclockwise. The K2 is only one I've found this way, but it's winder is a different design than others I've worked on.

RUN !! :D

Have a Super Program that's the same way, power is getting to the electronics, only firing at 1/125, no read out on the LCD screens.....some aren't repairable, so they become spare parts. Try another might have better luck.

Thanks,
Cosmetically great, mechanically a challenge - KX & KM needed full CLA, seals, foam, a couple bad solder connections and replaced meter for the KX. But now the shutter speeds are good, meters are accurate and they both came with split focus screens and have pristine prisms - a rarity. The K2 was by far the easiest, other than new seals & foam, the pivots on the shutter blades required some gentle, careful cleaning to improve the 1/1000 & 1/500 shutter speeds which worked great. Meter is accurate and the ASA dial moved easily - my favorite of the trio.

Finished up a K2 I'd been working on, which completes a goal of restoring a black body of each of 3 original K series models from "AS-IS/Parts only" bodies. Took about a year, learned a lot, but glad it's done. Have a lot respect for those who do or have done this for a living, it takes a special kind of talent and patience.
