A good copy is way better than a copy w. low serial no.
But you wont know if it's good or not before you buy one (used or new).
The no is engraved...

I have the older non DG version in mint condition. You can't go wrong with either one.
I suppose if you try to shoot something really reflective there might be some ghosting on the non DG.
My take would be that the overall condition of either lens matters more...

One prime (DA14) and one zoom (F35-105).
Sadly the latter is broken and replaced with the heavier and faster F35-135. About as good.

Maybe my copes were good, both aquired new.

If you need to take pics in the dark (like while driving out from camp, or at the camp fire) then AF is not accurate. Go MF. I ended up with my A50/1.7 wide open in those situations in Kenya.

Take the 18-250 on one body. You need wide for big animals that let you close (elephants or giraffes). There is plenty of light so you don't need fast lenses.
If you do not want to carry the BigMa (I get that), take your 70-200 and crop when needed on the other.
Do not bother to take a long prime. (Yes I am a prime pentaxian at heart).

Seb

Edit: you need a proper hood. Plenty of light.

While the DA35/2.4 is a good budget option, the F28/2.8 is compact and nice too. If it's not too wide for OP.

Difficult to make -> expensive -> not enough market for fast lenses
If Pentax would sell bodies like Canikon we would see a wider range of lenses, also 3rd party.

I do not think so...
I did think that pentax made compact (in favor of fast) lenses, but then they lauched the DFA 15-30.

A 1.2 lens is not necessarily sharper than a 4.0 lens. Think macro.

Plastic white mounting alignment nub on M series

Beware!

There is a hole under the nub on some lenses. Put a piece of sticker on the hole before adding glue and new bead to avoid having glue inside lens...

The M85/2 and the A100/2.8 are in my bag. The A100 is sharper, but the M85 has something that appeals.

Pentax DA*55 mm 1.4 vs FA43 mm 1.9

1. Do you really need 1.4?

2. Do you need the longer focal width?

If you answered yes on both, go for the DA*55. The FA43 is simply a great lens.

Just shot some lab equipment shots with my DA16-45 in poor light without flash. 1/40 sec. f/6.3 16mm ISO400.

I had surprisingly sharp corners.

Restoring an aperture lever?

No I did not buy the lens in question. I do not like the idea of filed or sawed lever fragments inside the lens.

Restoring an aperture lever?

Hi!

Having missed out on a butchered lens sold by a Sony shooter, here goes:

How can one restore (as in find a new replacement?) an aperture lever for old K-, M- or A-series lenses that were cut off?
Are they available as spares or can you salvage it from another (different) lens?

I wish the more expensive lenses were left alone by mirrorless shooters.

There are really no new alternatives available. The FA200 macro and the Sigma EX180 macro exist used. They are expensive, especially the Pentax since it's so uncommon.

I have the Sigma, more often I use the M100/4 macro or my F35-135 because they are lighter.
But if you are used to the DA*300 then the weight is no issue.

Get the Sigma if you can find one, or try a teleconverter (not optimal I know).

Seb

(typo corrected, no DA200macro exist as we all know)

Sigma 50-500 non OS compared to Pentax 150-450 on K-1

Is it really fair to compare a 3x zoom against a 10x zoom? The big thing that is surprising is that the (both non OS and OS version) Sigma is that good.

I might suggest the M100/4 as well, more common and decently affordable too. I have used it on my bellows sometimes.

Nothing against the 17-50, but as Rogerstg mentioned, you seemed to have that range covered.

A prime like the DA50/1.8 is still faster (and lighter) than a zoom, which of course is more versatile.
My pick would be a prime (obviously for me the fast 20/1.8 since i have the 70), but many would pick the 10-20.

There is no wrong pick among the 4 choices.
