This is for sure a fake card. Stop using it immediately before you lose your data.

Test it with h2testw to confirm this.

I have been using a Lexar UHS-II 1000x 128GB card for years, with my K-30, K-I II and GX85. The RAW files and video files transfer much faster onto the PC.
But many of these Sandisk cards match the read speed of that card. However, they do need a proprietary reader to achieve that speed.

B&H also has the 512GB microSD for $89.99 . I just ordered one. This is a better deal per GB.

SanDisk 512GB Extreme UHS-I microSDXC Memory SDSQXA1-512G-AN6MA

I also ordered the microSD reader to go with it and get the full 170MB/s read speed with this card, as it uses proprietary Sandisk technology to achieve it.
SanDisk MobileMate USB 3.0 Card Reader SDDR-B531-AN6NN B&H Photo

Amazon also had the 512GB full-size SD Extreme Pro for the crazy price of $127.99 . No more at this price, but mine just shipped.
Also had to order the full size Sandisk SD reader for $17.99 . There sure will be a lot of SD slots in my desktop.

170MB/s read speed is 20MB/s more than what I get with my 4 year old Lexar 128GB UHS-II card currently. There is only a single 512GB UHS-II card on the market that achieves close to that read speed.
It's an Angelbird AV Pro for $399.
Angelbird 512GB AV Pro UHS-II SDXC Memory Card AVP512SDV60 B&H
To be fair that card does have a V60 rating for write speed whereas these much cheaper Sandisk are V30.

I mostly care about the read speed in my case, to transfer 4K videos to computer. So those very fast Sandisk cards with UHS-I proprietary reader are a steal.

I got denied for a B&H credit card that pays the sales tax. Not sure why, maybe because I'm currently vacationing in Vietnam. Will find out next week. Guess I'm not buying a GH5 because of the denial. And thus no need for V60 card. Saving tons of money this Black friday lol.

This is a microSD, but should work fine in a Pentax body hopefully. It has a lifetime warranty. I haven't tried yet but seriously tempted to get one. If not, for use in my Note 8 smartphone and Lumix GX85 which shoot 4K video.

At least support the current standard in the next gen camera
- no time limit for video recording
- Wifi 6/AX, not AC
- SD Express for 985MBytes/s . not UHS-II at only 312MB/s
- SDUC, not SDXC because video files should be allowed to be greater than 2TB
- 8K resolution video . Pentax missed the boat on 4K, so need to go to 8K now at least.
- RAW video support . At least 3x10 bits
- at least 60fps progressive video recording
- a proper fully articulated screen that I can look at when recording myself, like any old camcorder . Sorry but the current K-1 II screen doesn't cut it
- video autofocus
- a drone to carry the camera for us, fast recharging solar high capacity battery, since it's going to be one heavy camera
- built-in time machine for all the shots I missed not carrying the camera

I tried the Sony FDR-AX33 . Yes, it was everything you say it was. But it also had very poor picture indoors in lowlight due to the sensor size. I returned it for that reason.

I don't think phones "excel" in low-light conditions. They are hampered by their sensor size too. Nevertheless, they do manage much better video picture than DSLRs.

Canon Full Frame Mirrorless $1,299

What did you find underwhelming about it ? I don't see the bit rates.
It does 4K video, and more. The 30 minute limit is present though, which is a PITA.

One thing I found odd is that it only goes to 40,000 ISO in standard mode, 102,400 extended. While I would probably never use that high of an ISO, I have done great shot at 25,600 ISO on my K-1 II. I have had very poor noise results on my old Canon T3i .
The relatively low range for current camera generations tells me they might still have noise issues. Or maybe they are just being conservative.

250 shot is likely because of the screen having to be on all the time on mirrorless.

Agree the USB 2 is useless nowadays. You won't be using it to transfer RAW files, much less your 4K video files. They are just checking a box for their specs most likely. But they may as well remove it, if they are not going to upgrade it to 3.0 or 3.1 IMO.
One useful thing they could do would be to add 802.11ac wireless support. It probably won't come in their entry-level full-frame model, though, if it ever does.

I had damage on my K-1 II shell as well, but more minor. The quote for replacement was a total of $439.04 :
Labor : $200.21
Parts : $193.84
Shipping : $45

I didn't have the work performed in my case. The quote was purposes of getting my insurance to pay for the damage. I was without the camera for over a month.

Brands I have used that failed : Western Digital, Maxtor, Seagate, Quantum, Micropolis, Conner, CDC, MiniScribe, Hitachi, Samsung.

When I used to run a BBS in my teens, I had a 100% failure rate on all hard drives. It was only a matter of time until they would fail. Didn't matter the brand, or the controller type. MFM, IDE, SCSI, Fast SCSI, Ultrawide SCSI. Some would fail at 2 years, some 4, some more than that. The capacities weren't growing as fast as they have been lately.
My first PC had a 20MB HDD in 1987. This Sunday, I picked up five 10TB HDDs for $189 each at Best Buy. Have yet to build the NAS, though. Not done with the full surface test on all of them.

Pentax K-1 Video Quality - Dynamic Range/Matching with other cameras/Best Practices
Posted By madbrain

OP in this thread was asking about picking up a K-1, he hadn't bought it yet.

4K is normal video these days on most cameras, including smartphones. I agree with you handheld footage is often hard to watch, especially without stabilizers.
But even on tripod, my K-1 II clearly was no match in video quality for the much cheaper Panasonic GX85. See my previous comparison at Mirrorless 4k video option for Pentax lenses - Page 6 - PentaxForums.com .
It was also no match for my Galaxy Note 8. So this is really about saving money - if one wants to do video, just skip the K-1 / K-1 II, and buy a cheaper m4/3 camera.

I mostly bought the K-1 II for stills. I didn't expect any miracles from it in terms of video. I am not a gifted enough musician and my recordings take a very long time to get decent footage, sometimes multiple hours. I record the audio separately . I just want to keep the camera and audio recording until I get what I think is a good take. I can't be thinking about the camera or audio recorder running past its recording limit . Even if the K-1 II had great 4K quality today, the 30 min recording limit would still make it problematic for me. The GX85 replaced my camcorder as it can record long enough (almost 2 hours in one uninterrupted 4K take on battery).
The main thing that really bugs me on the GX85 is the lack of IR remote control sensor or wired remote input port. Smartphone app remote is the only thing that works with it. The GH5 fixes that, but $1000 more is just too much for a missing 50 cent IR sensor part. It's not as compact, also.

What is "normal" use ? Your own use case ?
With a lot of effort, you may be able to get acceptable results in some cases with the K-1 video, but it won't be easy. And in the vast majority of situations, it will under perform other cameras at much lower price points, including even smartphones. The op chose the GX80 as a B cam . They haven't chimed in a while. But IMO that should be their A cam for video. I own the nearly identical GX85 and it trounces the K-1 II for video in every way.
I wouldn't even consider the K-1 II as my B video cam. It would be my C video cam. The B cam would be my Galaxy Note 8 .

I'd like to know as well. However, one thing that is clear is that the camera was on a tripod in every single case. This dramatically reduces the amount of difference between frames. Thus, the low bit rate of the Pentax doesn't show as badly. If the camera was hand-held, the quality of the footage would look dramatically different, IMO.
In fact, if you look carefully, none of the objects that are in motion (mostly vehicles) look sharp. That's partly because they are out of focus, and partly because of the low bit rate. For the most part, what's static and in focus looks good. Everything else is not.

That's not overly practical if one a desktop PC needs to be nearby as the external recorder. I would hope for a recorder box. Maybe one that records to a hot pluggable SATA SSD instead of SD card.

I'm trying to move away from using a PC for audio recording so I can remove the snake cable between my home office and computer. And not need to turn on the PC when playing / recording.
Getting this bad boy tomorrow :
DA-3000 | OVERVIEW | TASCAM

Should fit in a rack underneath my grand piano, and completely silent. Though that will depend more on how well the rack is built and vibrations when playing the instrument than noise originating from the recording device itself.
PCs as external audio or video recorders could not completely be noise-free, IMO.

FYI, here is a quick comparison I did in May of 5 cameras, including the Pentax K-30 and K-1 II :

Mirrorless 4k video option for Pentax lenses - Page 6 - PentaxForums.com

I will not bother shooting video with the K-1 II . GX85 all the way for me when it comes to video.
My K-1 II will be used mainly for stills. The video bit rate on the K-1 II is just too low, there is no 4K, and the 16 min recording limit is extremely impractical.
The full frame sensor is just wasted on video because of these limits.

Not before :
a) some lawyers get paid to figure out if the new rule can be retroactively applied to existing devices that were imported, but for which no duties was paid at the time the rules were in force.
and
b) an incentive develops for manufacturers to issue such firmware updates. It will only cost them money to remove the limit, including lost new sales, if new devices no longer have the limit

CISS on a Canon printer are a big no-no. You risk ruining the expensive print heads, which cost as much as the printer - often more, since the printers often have rebate deals, and the printer heads don't. Some people just buy a new printer when their print head fails ...

Where did you buy those SD cards ? Are you sure they are genuine ? There are a lot of fake cards out there, that are actually 2 or 8GB cards masquerading as much larger cards.

HappyBison.com: tech, research and bison

Have you used and filled those cards in other device besides your K-1 before ? Fake cards will work fine until you exceed the real capacity. And then the files get corrupt.

If you have another unused SD card from the same batch, please run h2testw on the card.

Right, and the non-portable part doesn't really bother me. Not being able to quickly start recording with decent audio does. Having to go to the home office, stop every process on the PC, turn on the firewire interfaces and mic preamps, etc. And then of course the time afterwards to transfer and sync.

Not clear what the BMD Intensity would accomplish for me. The specs say it's only HD, also, while the GX85 internally already records at 4K / 100 Mbps.

My external recorder is a pair of Firewire interfaces, Echo audiofire 8 and Audiofire 12 . Total of 20 XLR in :) Both connected to a desktop PC, running Reaper software.
I run a 12-channel XLR snake cable from the music room to the home office.
I have a bunch of mic preamps in the home office also. The one I use the most is an ART Pro audio MPA II tube preamp.
I used to record with more than 2 mics at a time, but eventually found which ones work best for piano or harpsichord, and the proper placement, and now I only record with 2 at a time.

Right.

Agree. But the phones still have a short recording limit, far shorter than my practice sessions. And since I'm an amateur, what I end up posting is always whatever the best footage is from long practice sessions. I only interrupt the recording manually if I have something I feel is worthwhile, so that I know to look at the end of that file. Otherwise, I can keep it going for 1hr+.

Have not looked at those models. I guess the price must have been way over my budget when they were new.
I have a K mount adapter to m4/3 for my GX85. I mostly use the Panasonic 12-32 lens pancake, though, as I need something wide due to recording harpsichord in the corner of the room.
I don't have any wide Pentax prime to mount . DA 35 is the widest prime I have. I do have the Sigma 10-20 APS-C in K mount.
I like the form factor of the GX85 very much. I dislike the touch screen, though. No IR sensor is a pain. I can use my phone as a remote, but it runs out of battery way sooner than the camera does. IR remote lithium battery lasts 5-10 years.
It's hard to justify spending $1500 extra on a GH5/GH5s for a 50 cent missing IR sensor part . Those do have audio inputs, though, but not XLR. Looks like there is a $400 DMW-XLR1 adapter to attach 2 XLR via hot shoe. Rather pricey, but I guess it's also a built-in stereo mic preamp and stereo A/D, so that explains the cost.
Still, wish there was also a plain XLR adapter since I have spare mic preamps. And it could go through the camera's built-in A/D in a pinch. Ideally the camera itself could feature dual mini XLR connectors It would remain compact that way. The mini XLR connectors only cost $3 each and could fit even on a GX85 if the manufacturer wanted to fit them on that chassis.

Sorry, not gonna happen. Baroque music only for me. And it takes me forever to learn stuff as an adult music student.

Yes, it was long quest to find the right lens, though. See :

Full frame superzoom ? - Page 7 - PentaxForums.com

I settled on the Tamron A061P model, which is the last full-frame version Tamron of the Tamron in K mount, which was designed not for film but for digital. It was released over a decade ago, even though Pentax didn't have a full-frame camera at the time.
IQ is good. Focusing in low-light indoors is very slow. Acceptable in daylight. The optics are the same as their other mount versions for full-frame Canon DSLR at the time. The specific lens model was really hard to find. I ended up ordering it from Japan on Amazon. Looks like he has another one available still.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00067ILIA/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?tag=p...condition=used

Looks like someone on Ebay has it for less now :
Tamron AF 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 XR LD IF Macro PENTAX K AF KAF From Japan N Mint F/S | eBay

There are other older versions like the A06 which are easier to come around, but not made for digital, and may not have the same coatings and produce some CA / PF, of which I see none on my A061P.

There are also even older Tamron of the 28-300 like the 185D, which I would recommend avoiding.

Yes, I have got an external recorder. No mic input on the camera though, so has to be synchronized in post. Sometimes I would prefer to shoot a quick video with good sound and no editing, but it's not to be on this camera.
The AGC makes the built-in audio miserable.

Example during this practice session :

You Tube

Anyone who knows about harpsichord is aware that there are no dynamics. But the camera's AGC takes about 4 seconds to ramp up the volume, from quiet to normal level. I haven't found a way to turn off AGC.

My testing shows the sensor stabilization , even dual IBIS, to be very poor for stills compared to Pentax SRII on K-1 II. Can't do video comparison, but the Pentax doesn't have it, so this would be with dual IBIS turned on/off in the GX85 only. Since I use the GX85 on tripod only, it is fairly useless.

Panasonic and Sony do have camcorders. Unfortunately, very small sensors only. I tried a Sony FDR-AX33 a few years ago and returned it. Terrible indoor performance. IQ was awful, which I think is because it couldn't even AF properly in my music room at night. Even my 10 year old Canon camcorder could. No other camera has failed like that. The AX33 IQ was great for outdoors. I didn't have it in my to try the Panasonic camcorder offerings. The reviews online stated the IQ was worse than Sony, and Sony IQ wasn't good enough for me.

It's a very small tax to begin with . Panasonic has chosen to make different versions for different markets. For example, the US version of the DC-GX85 can record nearly 2 hours i 4K at 100 Mbps. The video qualit yruns circles around my K-1 II, at 1/4th of the price.
