200mm is kind of short for wildlife. Your best bet without breaking the bank is the 55-300 PLM, it is weather resistant, and has probably the fastest autofocus on any Pentax lens. You will need to make sure your K-50 has the latest firmware (an easy update). Of course the D FA 150-450 would be better yet, but it's much pricier.

Congrats on your K-50 and have fun with it.

MeFoto Backpacker Air mini review

I've got three MeFoto tripods, two are very good, the third is the backpacker air, which fortunately only cost $29 (and it was a gift). It's definitely not up to the standards of other MeFoto tripods. At the time I had a little Sony a6000, and that was an overload. I'll have to get it out and try it again with nothing extended, may use for a tabletop,

I was driving to a place for an early morning hike when I came upon this odd fog. This was during morning twilight, about 10-15 minutes before sunrise.

The K20D is a fine camera, but it’s not going to give you the performance that the K-1 will. Most specifically, low light shooting. Plus the advancements in auto focus, dynamic range, shake reduction, and more. Go to the camera comparisons and put the two cameras together and you’ll see many improvements.

Information and advice sought for trip to Upper Texas Coast

I've never used the 150-450, but it has to go with you. The KP is the low light champ, so if you are in any forested areas it will be your best option. If you are just in grasslands and lakes, maybe having two K-3 cameras may be easier, unless you are comfortable with both. The other lens is the question of wanting one to be lighter weight or not. I would lean to the DA* 300 and converter. I think the only thing you might want wider than 150 would be if you want to mix in some landscapes, with flocks of birds, group photos, etc. Myself I can see using a tripod for birds unless you're shooting a nest or something, but then most of my experience shooting birds is warblers, and they constantly move. Sounds like a great trip, have fun!

How IBIS perform on longer lenses (200 mm)?

I've not done any scientific testing, but I remember accidentally having it off once at 300mm and the results were not good, shooting at lower speeds that were fine with SR. Once in a while I can have a day when I'm not as steady, but not that bad.

Do you set the date and time on your cameras?

Yes, the time can be a great memory jogger, especially if you want to go back to a location. It’s very frustrating, as Sandy said, if you are shooting two cameras and the time is off.!

My choice also, and it has moonrise and moon set, and coordinates. It uses Google satellite images for the backdrop which helps you line your phone up like a compass.

I think I first used it about 22 or 23 years ago. One of the few software packages that I’ve used that seems to have multiple ways to do everything. I’ve been to a few of the PS seminars where the developers and Scott Kelby showed you ways to do things, they were always good.

Compatible hoods for HD DA 55-300 PLM?

Apparently no knockoff hood has been created for the PLM. There is a chance the others may fit, but they are probably not easy or cheap to find either. There are many generic lens hoods that screw onto the filter ring. These can work very well if you find one similar to the original, which you have seen pictures of. The original is 84 cm across the top (mouth, opening), and is about 44 from the filter ring to the top. Good luck.

The Promaster is likely a rebadged Tamron, it would be ok and removing the Ricoh pin is easy, but a much better option is the Pentax-F 35-70, which is excellent, and can be found very cheap.
