Thank you and much appreciated, Just1MoreDave. By the look of the lens, it's the inside of the rearmost element that has the problem.

As to the aperture ring, I usually tape these loosely to save chasing little ball bearings.

With the help I've got tonight, it should be OK.

As always, the forum has come up trumps. Thanks again.

Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 disassembly

Could anyone here point me to instructions for disassembling a Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 please?

The problem with the lens is slight fungus in the rear elements (between the lens mount and the aperture blades).

I have disassembled one from the front but it's the rear this time. Basically, I'm asking can you go in from the rear of the lens? Any particular problems or best ways to go about it?

All and any help gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

Using K10D with a P-TTL flash - what setting?

Thanks, all. Yes the timing sucks but I had no choice as my old flash let me down on a previous shoot on Monday. The Metz 36 AF-4 P is fully automatic, just on and off so it's only the camera settings that I need to worry about.

I've bumped up the ISO a little and shooting on 'P' and I'm now getting usuable shots, and yes, I agree about post processing. I can always up the exposure in PhotoShop.

I took a lot of shots last night and am getting the hang of it.

The pictures I'm taking are all house interiors, no people to worry about so I can take a lot of shots at different settings and play with the results.

Using K10D with a P-TTL flash - what setting?

Back asking for more help. I've just (today) got a P-TTL flash (Metz 36AF 4 P) and have to use it tomorrow.

The shots I'm taking are a one time only visit and I don't want to mess it up.

What is the best setting to have the camera on to utilise the flash to its full potential?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Yes, that's exactly what it looks like. Can't post photos as it's now in pieces. It jammed on an 'A' lens, so I disassembled it to free it.

I just bought a Vivitar 2x tele converter which has 7 electrical contacts, however my K10D doesn't 'see' the aperture, even when the lens attached to the converter is set on 'A'.

So, my question is: is the converter a bad one, or is there something I'm missing?

Do any of the connecting terminals need to be blanked off? Or what?

The camera does recognise and set the aperture on an 'A' lens without the converter, just something is missing when I put the tele converter in between.

Any help appreciated.

Too late. I've asked him to send it back. I'll be examining it to see if I can replicate the 'fault' and either returning it to the shop for repair or refund (6 month warranty) or relisting it on fleabay.

I don't know. I've just sold my Z-1 and the person who bought it has requested a refund because of it. He states that it's a sign the display is 'dying'.

However, I'd never noticed this before the sale. I'm waiting for the camera's return to examine it myself. I'll post again when I've more details.

If you haven't already found it, here's a link to a page which lists the differences between the Z-1 and the Z-1P. You'll find the list at the bottom of the page. But take my word, the Z-1 is an excellent camera in its own right.

Not sure what it's like in Australia, but here in the UK the market is saturated with MZ-50's. They are going on Ebay for just a few pounds.

Like titrisol says, keep it as a back up for AF.

One point to note with the MZ-50 is that it's a crippled KAF mount so you can't use certain older lenses which don't have a an 'A' setting. I'm sure someone here who is more knowledgeable will expand on this.

Other cameras with this mount are MZ-30/ZX-30, MZ-60/ZX-60, *ist

On your other point about the Z-1P, I've just recently got a Z-1 (PZ-1) and it's the business. The best film camera I've ever had.

Used both the Zenit 11 and the 12XP a few years ago with the Helios 44-M 50mm lens that came with them.

They were quite good cameras and took some nice sharp photographs.

Z-1 & Sakar 717AF Flash unit

Hello again, back to the source of all Pentax knowledge and looking for some advice please. At the moment I have an Pentax SF-7 and use the Sakar 717AF Flash unit with it.

However, I'm now looking at getting a Z-1 P / PZ-1 P and wonder if the flash will be usable with it.

When I got the flash, the website stated that it could ONLY be used with the SF range and that it couldn't be used with other later Pentax cameras.

Is this true? And would it 'fry' the Z1 if I tried to use it with it?

Thanks for your help.

KM Light seal question

Thanks. Yes, I saw what looked like tiny pieces of felt, but they seemed in reasonable condition so I left them.

I've resealed the camera and I'm shooting a roll through it now. I'll see what the results are and revisit the sealing if I have to.

What a cracking camera, though! Solid metal beast*, lovely machine.

*Not a lover of plastic cameras.

Thanks for your help guys.
