I'm Close with the K1 but??

I'm pretty happy with a micro-43 camera as the second small/video body. I have a few basic zooms for ease of use + the Lumix 14/2.5 when a tiny cam is important - but I prefer to adapt Limiteds 40+70 and a few other nice K-primes. I also have a 10-20 Sigma when superduperwide is needed. I've been using Lumix bodies for quite a while but a bargain-used Yi-M1 is on its way now that firmware 3.x is available.

I'm still using a K-50 but plan to rent a K-1 soon to check out the bulk:IQ ratio. I have plenty of old 36x24 lenses to play with :) and will definitely see how I feel about edge issues with the two DA Limiteds.

Mid-morning with the DA70. I'd have to work at it to disgrace this lens, it won't let me down.

I just bought Limiteds 40 and 70mm, not just for the k-50 but also for micro 4/3 bodies. Both of them (used) were far cheaper than the native 4/3 options such as 75/1.8 or 42.5, slightly slower but smaller even w/ adapter. I also prefer skipping the massive autocorrections that many m4:3 lenses hide behind; mostly zooms but once the slope gets slippery who can say?

I have a vivitar 24 so the DA21 can wait a bit.

Will a DA 55-300mm handle PF better?

My copy of the tamron 70-300 was a fringing machine past about 100mm. Never saw anything like it with any copy of the 55-300 and I've owned several. AF speed is another matter.. but you pick your compromise and live with it.

Some day I'd love to catch a lake-effect snowstorm (just one!), a Sabres game and a Bills game. All the stuff Oregon doesn't have :)
Welcome, and enjoy whichever body wins out! It won't be hard to appreciate either one.

My DA70 arrived today as part of the scheme to upgrade micro4:3 with ibIS to Limited primes. I recently missed out on a DA21, but while searching for a good deal on another copy I found an elder 10-20/4+ Sigma. I could have bid a while but for about $200 that's a decent enough price for a lightly-used one, and cheaper than a DA21 even if slower and larger. It will be a bit nose-heavy on the GX7.ii  but will serve quite nicely on the K-50!

Guess the DA21 is out for the near term; the Vivitar 24/2.8 can keep its current spot.

Resurrecting an old thread..

In square 1:1 mode this looks workable (I stole screenshots for 20mm and half of 18mm tests).
Could someone verify that for me? Thanks! :)

In the meantime this will work nicely for K∙50 and my 43 kit, for a decent price; how nice.

Still relevant, and still sad. I'd press Like, but it's too pathetic for any single emotion. :(:o :p
I recall watching a Canon pro totally ruin his camera shooting mist at the base of Yellowstone Falls, while filming a bit for some TV short about nature pics. I laughed sympathetically before and after his camera's demise. **

And welcome AsahiGlass! The K-1 is an amazing camera in a curious box, and a very early mirrorless camer that was caught up in both the Hoya-Ricoh transition and the energetic artist vs. engineer debate (and the dismissive "too big to be mirrorless" era, long past if you compare a K-01 to a GX8 / G9). Other than the missing viewfinder it's a great camera and a fun conversation starter, like Doc's K-5 and the K-1 film confusion.

** UPDATE - from jlbgibberish.blogspot.com
"I discovered Lik's photography television series on the Weather Channel, From the Edge with Peter Lik. I only managed to see about five of the 13 episodes before the season ended, but I found them engrossing. Granted, Lik has some financial and equipment advantages..."

Cannot afford the FA types, but for small and talented the DA40 and DA70 and their HD cousins are atop my budget list. Especially when excellent used copies are available! On a K-70 size camera they make the entire kit feel so much easier to take along everywhere.

Item Description
I picked up a GX85 and GX7 in the space of a week, and one must go. :(

The GX7 is a 16Mpix micro4:3 camera with many excellent features and great ergonomics. The GX85 has many updated features but the GX7 is acknowledged the better for handling and ease of changing settings. It has a great touchscreen that tilts up/down, many customizable buttons and AF/MF focus switch, plus it's the first Lumix body with IS inside (not 5-axis like Pentax and more modern bodies, but still helpful and useful with manual lenses). AF system goes to -4EV and focus peaking works on bright stars!

This silver camera has a bit of wear on the bottom edge of the paint and some scuffs on the LCD's plastic perimeter. Everything appears to work great after my head-to-head tests with the GX85.

The 14-42mm II version is as good as any kit lens in the micro4:3 system, and unlike their 12-32mm kit lens this one has a focusing ring.

The 'leather'? case fits over the GX7 camera nicely and looks good, though it also has some scuffs.
I also have a 3rs-party instruction book for the GX7/GM1 cameras with some hints on camera setup plus rudimentary instructions on how to take great pictures.

Comes with 3rd-party charger and two generic batteries. The USB cable uses the same connector as Pentax; I have a cord available by request. I'm also including a basic PK-M43 adapter without aperture control - works great for lenses with aperture rings!

Price: $225 body only, $265 with 14-42mm lens

I was shooting baseball through chain-link fence, and it's clear that my K-50 phase AF center point is not perfectly within the VF box. Most of my shots were manual focus prefocused to the bag I expected action. I tried to test where the AF boundary was but it wasn't an ideal time to be geeky about it :)
