It's hard to go wrong with a 50/1.4. I can see no issues with either the lens or the photographer. Very nice image.

He surely exposed himself as one who does not know what he is talking about. The yellow tinge is real and it's not the coating. If only he knew how easy it is to fix it and return the glass to water clear.

It will always show for you because you are the owner. I really wish that they had not changed how this worked in Picasa.

No, the image does not show, Paul. And that was confirmed by another member of that thread. That is what I was expecting.
Try editing that post and use my more complex method.

Thanks for the confirmation, Paul. So, for me, old Picasa images display OK, new Google Photos images don't and that is what I expect according to their current "rules". But we have a work around.

Gee, those old images brought back some memories. They were the first images I uploaded to Picasa. And my K10D was about a year old then and it is still going strong.

This is a test to see if old images posted in Picasa Web Images (now Google Photos) can be seen in forum posts.
These were taken on a trip to North Queensland. The last two of the croc were taken with a DA 50-200mm.
Please let me know if no images are displayed.

I think that the Google+ rules apply to Picasa. And you have reminded me that I have a few images there which I had totally forgotten about. They were taken with my K10D. So, it will be a good test to see if I can display them here - in the K10D thread as they were not taken with a Tak.

There always has to be an exception to the rule, doesn't there? Oh well, back to the drawing board. So, I still don't know why your method works for you and not for Minimonster and me. I do believe that it is working as designed for me as Google have said that they don't support cross linking from forums.

If your simple method works for you then go for it. It does not work for me so I will have to use my slightly more complex method. C'est la vie!

Yes, I agree. I will only use that method for images that I don't want to put on Flickr. :)

Well, it will work from Google Photos if you do this:

1. Choose your Google Photos image and click on the Share icon.
2. Click on Create Link and then click on Copy.
3. Go to Embed Google Photos in your Website in your browser
4. Paste the copied link into the box that says “PASTE GOOGLE PHOTOS LINK HERE” and click on “GENERATE CODE”.
5. When the code is generated it will then automatically scroll down
6. Copy the link under “Direct Link (URL)”
7. In your forum post, click on the “Insert Image” icon (mountains and sun) and paste the copied link.
8. Click on “Preview Post” and your image should be there.

But I am glad that you posted the image from Flickr because that is one superb image. Great colours, contrast and detail. Good camera and lens combo.

Dave,
Thank you so much for that vital and important piece of information. You have finally solved the last bit of the puzzle as to why you, goatsNdonkey and Paul could post images from Google Photos while others and I could not. They were actually images from Google+ that were now visible in Google Photos. As I had never posted any images in Google+ mine had the rules from Google Photos applied to them. Which, of course, begs the question: why did they change the rules?
I guess we will never know but we do have a work around. And that allows you to maintain your rage against Flickr. :p :p

Keep showing us your images via Google Photos. It would be so dull here without you and your ponies.

Yes, you can see it but you are the only one. Same thing happened with my post and that is how I think it is supposed to work.
But there are others (as I indicated) for whom the method provided by goatsNdonkey works. I don't know why that is but I would love to know. :D

Give my new method a try and we will let you know if we can see your image.

OK. I'm still trying to work out why goatsNdonkey's method works for him, you and Paul and not for me and Minimonster. I doubt that I will find the answer to that but at least I have a solution that works for me.

I don't have a 20mm but I do have a 35, 28 and 24. The 28mm is nice but the 24 is marvellous and wonderful. As I have had it for a number of years I have no idea of their rarity nowadays. Just remember that 24mm is 36mm on APS-C and much wider on full frame.

Your problems are over, Dave. My previously mentioned method seems to get around the privacy issue related to Google Photos.
Please give this a try to see if it works for you:

1. Choose your Google Photos image and click on the Share icon.
2. Click on Create Link and then click on Copy.
3. Go to https://ctrlq.org/google/photos/ in your browser

I'll be waiting to see if I can hear the echo when you say "YES!".

Thanks for confirming that this solution worked, Dave. That is a great relief. I will go through the process again to be 100% sure and post the instructions tomorrow morning.
No offence taken. All good! :)

I knew that there must be a solution and I don't give up easily. More detail tomorrow. It's time for bed now as I have had a few glasses of that red medicine.

Thank you. It was taken with a Super-Takumar 35mm f3.5 on a Canon EOS 20D. It was intended to show that sundials don't work so well in the shade.

I don't believe that anyone could. Their default is PRIVATE and there is no PUBLIC option. I could be wrong but that is as I read it.
You can then share images or albums with selected users but not everyone and that is precisely how I use it.

I have always believed that was the major difference between Google Photos and Flickr. Google's default is PRIVATE but you can share with individuals. Flickr's default is PUBLIC unless you apply a privacy filter to an image or album.
Please tell me if I have it wrong.

I have just read that you could create public albums in Google+ but that doesn't help much as Google+ shuts down on April 2, 2019.

Hi Dave,

Yes, I did use the long link as you showed above. I understand what you are seeing as I have seen the same on other posts.

No, I did not just copy the URL as you showed. C'mon, I wouldn't do that as I would not expect that to work.

On my Win 10 machine I don't get "Properties" when I right click.

Yes, my photos on Google are set to "Private" as that is the default. I know of no way to make them all "Public" and I have read lots of stuff trying to find out how. I am sure that this issue is at the core of the problem. I don't want all my photos on Google to be public but I would be happy to have an album that was but that doesn't seem possible either. Google Photos' default is PRIVATE and you can only allow other users to see them if you specifically invite those individuals.

If somebody knows differently I would love to hear about it. I have performed the procedure EXACTLY as goatsNdonkey and paulh have indicated and it does not work - for me. Obviously there must be something different in goats' and paulh's setup compared to mine because I believe that when the image does not display in my post that is how it is supposed to work. I can see it but you can't because it is private by default and I have not shared it with you.

Why/how it is working for goatsNdonkey and paulh is a mystery to me. If you think you know, please enlighten me.
