Fitting a simple quadratic through the three existing HD prices puts the 21 DFA Limited at 1,645 in UK monies.
Of course, Excel predictions have been known to be wrong once or twice :p

I hadn't noticed the lack of a distance scale... that's a little weird...
It's just one of those things I'm used to seeing, and the old DA* 16-50 has one.
The DFA 28-105 doesn't have one, either, so it isn't just a PLM thing.

Isn't the one in the K3-III a much larger array than the one in the K1?
I think the K3-III meter array is almost twice the resolution of my first digital camera some 25 years ago...

I thought the practical lack of bicycles before the mid-19th century was the real reason photography didn’t really develop until after that...
Seriously, using the meter array as a basis for focus assist is pretty cool. It would be neat if that was saved with the metadata...

I had a PZ-20 I loved, but I think I prefer the ZX-£
If only they weren’t so fragile... I wish I knew someone who could fix mine...
And I did use the power zoom stuff once on a paid job even :)

Of course, if you order the current version, you can have it in a day or two... instead of April...
I guess someone could be in a big hurry...

My little Vivitar has a “high trigger voltage” sticker on the side and spends most of its time plugged in to antiques for the same reason. I had a super tiny Sears flash I foolishly gave away that was awesome.

I had a Panasonic compact of similar vintage (and used it until about a year ago, when the lens stopped extending).
As I recall, it’s problems were primarily noise and compression artifacts. Once I can travel again, I’ll probably buy one of its descendants at 20Mp.
Sample images suggest both problems have been helped by 8 years of development...

The 16/160 flashes are really handy because of their small size.
While I think the AF280T is one of the greatest flashes ever made, my film cameras usually travel with a 160 for fill.
But yeah, they’re cheap... and probably not worth paying to fix...

I’ll try and keep it simple, since there are lots of complicated answers further up...
For the Spotmatic, I’d suggest a Takumar 28mm f3.5 of some flavor. It’s about as wide on the Spotmatic as the 18mm end of your 18-55 is on the K5. They’re usually inexpensive, so very good value.
For the K5, I like the 16-45 zoom idea. It’s both a bit wider than the 18-55 and a quality upgrade. Otherwise, I’d suggest the 15mm, as it’s a good focal length before things either go fisheye or high price...
Good luck!

I’m in a similar situation. I love my 16-50 and can’t really say much bad about it...
I had the 18-50 RE, and just mailed it to my niece. I never really got on with it. I wanted a small walk around lens for my K-01, but I always went back to the 16-50.
Now I have a KP and keep thinking about getting the 21...
My 1980s Miranda 24mm f2.8 just isn’t doing it for me...

Yes. The last generation of SMC Takumars would open aperture meter on the last generation of Pentax M42 bodies using a similar scheme to what K-mount does.

I’m pretty sure the K1000 does not free up the spool when the back is opened, assuming the SL is similar, so that will have to be addressed.
But I’m pretty sure I’ve had similar behavior from my K1000 rewind button when the shutter wasn’t fully cocked or discharged, so it may be as simple as getting the film loose enough to finish winding that last frame, then everything will free up.

There has already been a new DA*16-50 f2.8 announced, so that's pretty likely to be the case...
I don't know if we know yet if it is KAF4 or not... here is the most recent roadmap I could find, but I'd be surprised if a release date isn't announced at CP+ this year... http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/japan/products/lens/images/K_Mount_Lens.pdf
The recent DA* 11-18 f2.8 is KAF3... and I would guess that's a great focal length range for real estate...

OK. That’s got to be really annoying... sorry to see that.
If it was me, I’d do the following...
Steal a knob off another camera. I have enough that something probably fits... stick a screwdriver in the slot in the rewind shaft that normally holds the film canister while you unscrew it. If you have pentaxian friends, you’ll just need to borrow one...
Find a nut off something the same size then rewind with a wrench. This would probably not work at my house, as I probably don’t have a nut that size (what’s metric?)
Gently using a pair of pliers so as not to destroy the threads, pull up the shaft with the camera in a changing bag, then rewinding the film by hand once you get it out. This assumes you have a changing bag...
All these do assume that the rewind button is stuck because that last frame didn’t really finish and that it will free up once you loosen things and finish the last bit of advance stroke. If not, there’s another challenge...
If you have a local film lab, they probably have a changing box and can do this for you...
I hope that helps...

In this case, there is a ~1cm long series of very shiny aluminum threads in the middle where the optics used to be.
I can't imagine that wouldn't cause a contrast problem at the very least...

A few years ago, I gave up on finding a nice SMC 85mm f2 and bought a Rokinon (Samyang).
Apart from needing a big chunk of AF correction, I have to say I've been pleased.
When it's in focus (which is largely dependent on subject/photographer motion at f1.4), it's very good.
Wide open, it's pretty "dreamy", which is fine for me, but stopped down a bit it's quite sharp while maintaining a nice transition to out of focus areas.
If I come across another 85mm at the right price, I won't need one from a functional perspective (even if I buy it as a collectible...) until I'm ready (if ever) for the DFA...

I'm having a bit of a vocabulary crisis based on something I need for a lens that is no longer a lens...
In a recently acquired pile of junk selection of loved vintage gear, I found a Focal 2x teleconverter with A contacts.
It had an easily removable group of lens elements, and once I remove the Ricoh pin (both of them), it will hopefully become a nice extension tube.
My vocabulary crisis is on the black stuff I should use to cover the shiny threads where those lens elements used to be.
Blacking? Flecking? I don't recall... but there's something I remember I should be using that's a little better for the purpose than the simple flat black enamel I was originally thinking to use.
I don't think it's the fuzzy stuff (flecking?), like on the inside of a telescope tube, as that might pile up on the threads and block the optical path...
Any ideas? Assistance on the vocabulary issue and/or the technical one are both appreciated :)
Thanks,
-Eric

Your lens is likely a T or T2 mount, so it will need an adapter for anything, even M42.
The annoying thing is that the T-mount thread is 42mm.
So you’ll probably need a T-mount adapter straight to your favorite mount. Or a T-mount to M42 then M42 to your mount.

It does sound like the mirror gear. Literally. That’s the sound the camera makes when it dies.
The data back uses a different battery, so replacing that is easy and only requires a tiny screwdriver. The backs of the MX/ZX family are also interchangeable, so if you find a different body without the date function, they’re easy to swap.

Even if they had 1,000 in boxes ready to go, with no ability to make more, that would be a real challenge to manage in terms of goodwill...
