I use my O-GPS1 on my D, the lat/long and electronic compass work fine and are recorded in EXIF. I don't think it supports the GPS route tracking/recording from the K-1.
I can't remember if the 'Simple Navigation' provided by the O-GPS1 on the K-5 works (this isn't present in the K-1 in-built GPS).

I use similar (the same?) rings, I think the given diameter is 76mm (I can't check right now). I haven't tried a tripod plate yet, but balancing it with the D on the back hasn't been a problem using just the ring.

The 'Disp - SD1/SD2' button on the back selects the card from where images are displayed when you press the 'play' button - I'd assume the same button would switch which card the review would use?

Yup, that's why I'm happy with my FA20-35/4 in all respects (including IQ), the only minor drawback being the lack of WR (not bothered about SDM etc.). Even if there was a newer version, I'd stick with the FA as I need an aperture ring for my film cameras.

The problem is that 'sensible' wide angle zooms have gone out the window.15-30 is the new 20-35 - manufacturers need it in their line-up, the problems of weight, size and filters as big as dinner plates are afterthoughts.
Once they have a big, heavy, expensive 15-30, a smaller, compact, easier to handle 20-35 would take sales off the 15-30 which had cost a huge amount of R&D resources. It's the price to be paid by having the prestigious 15-30 in the line-up because that's a 'must have' lens to be seen as a credible system.

As mentioned there are two Adaptall-2 K mounts (not to be confused with earlier Adaptall-1 mounts). The AD-2 mounts are KM (equivalent to K & M series lenses) and KA. The KM mount has it's own duplicate aperture markings which line-up in the correct location to be displayed in the finder on bodies with the Judas window (KX, MX, LX etc.).

From memory there's a thread somewhere suggesting the fastest way to review on the D is to use two cards. Set the camera to shoot raw on one and jpeg on the other, select the jpeg card for the review.
I doubt 'faster' cards will have much impact as the cameras CCD processing is probably the bottleneck.

In Auto the aperture remains fully open for focusing and metering only stopping down to the value selected on the aperture ring during the exposure.
In Manual, the aperture is always stopped down to that selected on the aperture ring.
At anything other than the widest aperture (i.e. f/4.5) using the lens in MAN will result in a darker focussing screen (depending on the aperture set). When switching to AUTO, you may need to lift the tip of the AUTO/MAN switch gently to lock it in place.

For me, part of the reason for using the limiteds (I only have the 43), is their tactile build. I use it a lot on manual film bodies, take the aperture clicks away and I'd lose interest in them. I doubt you'd notice the IQ/pixie dust in video anyway.

Pentax made a stereo print viewer for some of the Optio range of cameras, I find it gives much easier viewing on a smart phone than trying to cross eyes.

As mentioned, cost and the very niche market (therefore increasing unit cost) is the reason - similarly I doubt there will be an 'expensively affordable' FF 645. While the D is a fantastic camera and handles exceptionally well - I can't help thinking I'd prefer it in a 33x44 67ii type form factor with the 645 mount (similar to the Leica S).

Welcome from Lancashire. SFX(n)s are very under rated cameras, obviously the MX & ME Super are both classics.

I haven't got a clue how to value it, but I'm not sure I'd put it on ebay. I'd be reluctant to ship it anywhere.

Sounds cheap - in the UK the FA31 is usually £1300+

My wide choice on the K-1 is an FA20-35/4, it's hardly off the camera. Much smaller/lighter/cheaper than the 15-30 and usable on my film bodies. The focal range is more to my taste too. It works well on both APS-C and FF, as do 28, 35 & 50mm options.
As for the DA10-17, I've compared mine at 17mm to my K17 FE on the K-1 - I can hardly tell the difference. I wouldn't need anything wider.

I find the foam interior dissintegrates into fine powder that will then find it's way into the lens. I keep the lenses and cases separately.

Dragonfly with a D, this critter visited my garden a few days ago (first time I've been able to get a shot of one). I used my D with FA 80-160 (cropped), handheld for expediency - had I known it was going to sit there sunning itself for ten minutes or so I'd have gone for my 67 135, tubes and a tripod. As far as I can identify from the web, it's a variation of Common Darter: Dragonfly #1 by John Halliwell, on Flickr Dragonfly #2 by John Halliwell, on Flickr Dragonfly #3 by John Halliwell, on Flickr Dragonfly #4 by John Halliwell, on Flickr

I've tried the P6x7 35mm fish-eye on my D - the FE effect is greatly reduced - if you're careful with straight lines it might not even be obvious. The Arsat is wider, I can't comment on how much of a difference that would make.
The shot below is the P6x7 35mm FE on my D - the 100% crops were to test how badly the built-in red filter attenuated the Green & Blue channels - notice how the 'horizon' is pretty much centred to minimise the distortion of straight lines: |

Yup, it still sounds clunky - you have to use both the 'quick' dial and the 'main' dial to change 'mode', instead of spinning just the dial you want to change.
HyperProgram is great, but HyperManual is frequently more useful - provides instant switching from Manual to the Program line (green button) and from there you can set your own EV combination for Av or Tv (i.e. temporary HyperProgram) using exposure lock.

Thank you for such a detailed reply, I'll look for the 645 auto extension tubes and give them a try. ---------- Post added 08-10-20 at 06:48 AM ----------
Thanks Phil, I've been able to try the late 200 with the 67 #2 tube, there's no obvious sign of vignetting on the D at f/4 on the aperture ring.

With bugs I'm having problems staying far enough away not to spook them. My best results so far are with the FA80-160 which focuses down to 1m. I'm going to experiment with the late 67 200/4 on 67 extension tubes on my D - the aim being to get it focus about 1m.
As a side note: anybody know how to calculate the extension needed to get a 645 A*300 to focus about 1-1.5m (down from a minimum of 3m)?

Museums like these are really awful places to shoot. Not only are they often dimmly lit, they pack the exhibits in very tightly, often overlapping each other. Going really wide and close helps avoid people, but often doesn't allow you to separate one exhibit or a clutter free background.
I can't help with APS-C lenses, I'd use my FA20-35 on the K-1 - if that's not wide enough I'd have to look at isolating detail instead. If you're allowed a tripod (or can rig up a beanbag or similar) and if your camera supports it, you could use Interval Composite mode to blur people out of shot.

Canon were claiming last week they developed mirrorless cameras by accident - l'm not quite sure how to interpret that. Are they not making their sales, wanting to U-turn on their direction, receiving complaints from their customers or something else?

Another problem is finding them in the UK. Apart from a few 'adapted' to instant film, they rarely appear at dealers (my preferred option), any that do, usually get snapped up very quickly. Similarly, one of the big Pentax dealers recently had a used K1000 + M50/2 with a warranty, priced at £250 - it sold within 4 days.
