Hi Andrea, I have tried on several occasions to get your app to connect to my k-1, without success. I keep getting the message that there is no connection between laptop and camera, when clearly there is. (I can see the connection in the wifi list. )
Can you make any suggestions?
Also I have had a k-5 converted to Infra Red, is there any chance of getting this app to connect to the k-5 via something like a flu card? It would be very handy when shooting IR.
thanks in advance

Thanks for responding Paul. I agree the 15-30 is a wonderful lens, probably the best WA zoom available in any dslr mount
What I neglected to say was I'm also thinking of taking my nisi filters on the trip. While the 100mm filters are large and awkward to carry and use, the 150mm set for the 15-30 is just too big to travel with. The da 15, or the FE 10-17, or even the sigma 10-20 are far more compact and can use the more compact filter set, if and when I get a chance to contemplate a sunrise/sunset

I'm really struggling with this dilemma folks. We are headed to Japan, China and Hong Kong next month
I could take the 15-30, 24-70 and 60-250 and have superb IQ for my k-1, but that's a lot of heavy kit for my arthritic hip to handle. I could go minimalist and just carry the 3 amigo's and the Dfa 100 (maybe with a couple of TC's for the 100) and something wide and light, but the only lenses I have that are wide AND light are for crop sensors. I could take the magical DA15 and be prepared to crop off the vignetting (or shoot in crop mode) so I get a 21ishmm field of view. But I would sure miss the versatility and convenience of the zooms. Maybe I could take the 10-17 FE and defish? Could I live with 16mp images?
I bought a 28-105 after reading this forum, with a view of using it as a 'travel' lens in lieu of the 24-70, but after the experience of the superb build and image quality of the DFA 28-70, the DA 24-105 sort of leaves me a little in the 'meh' camp.
I could revert to my trusty K-3 and take the 12-24, 16-50 and 50-135 (or 60-250) and have superb IQ for a crop body, but boy oh boy I'd miss the K-1. At least I would have the convenience of a sometimes useful built in flash
first world problems, I know
Any suggestions would be appreciated

C1 is the best raw converter I have used. I really like the richness of the colours I can get from the K1 files. I downloaded v12 the other day and am having a play with it. I like the radial filter and the lum masks (still getting used to them, I think I like PS lum masks better at this stage.) My usual workflow is to get a Tiff out of C1 which I like and then use PS to add the finishing touches.

I was at a display garden in a place called Blackwood on the weekend. In the distance I spied a young lady taking pictures with what, from a distance appeared to be some kind of 50mm lens. As we got closer I heard the familiar muted kerchunk of a Pentax shutter and took closer notice. It turned out she was shooting with a K-p and FA43. We had a brief chat and she said I was the first Pentaxian she had ever met in the wild. She had a hankering to buy a FA77. I didn't dissuade her from purchasing my favourite all time lens.
This little ditty came to mind as we were driving away.
I met a young lass from Bendigo
at a Blackwood flower and garden show.
With her K-p and her '43,
she was a Pentaxian, just like me.

An article written at least partly by the "I've got a PhD in physics" (so that's why I'm working doing camera tests?) Rishi, The same Rishi who conducted the wonky bike AF tests and refused to concede he was wrong. I wouldn't pay too much attention to what Rishi says.

Harrow: Latest Episodes : ABC iview
Had the unusual pleasure of watching an Aussie TV series on Friday night where the major clue was photographs taken with a Pentax. The quote in the episode was " That is a Pentax K1000. They made about 3 million of them" Not sure I've ever heard a specific model ever referred to in any tv show or movie.

Hey there KD, long time, no chat
I agree that I will probably never find a use for 2 gazillion ISO either, but each improvement in the ceiling would hopefully see a corresponding improvement in the 'usable' ISO ranges circa 100-3200. Maybe this makes 6400 and 128k usable now?
It gets mighty dark up in those highlands, I hear
I'm much more interested in
a, supporting the concept of upgrading camera's rather than have the old body gather dust on my shelf - recycling is the way to go and the K-1 body is as tough and durable as anything ever made by any camera manufacturer.
b, hand held Pixel shift if it works

I will probably wait for the review of the K1-II upgrade from DPR,
and then do the opposite of what they recommend :)

G'day folks
I just got off the phone to CRK. I was inquiring about the availability and cost of doing the K1-II upgrade in Aust. The info is that it will cost au$770 and be available in May. The conversion will be done locally (so presumably without much delay).
At current exchange rates $550 USD works out to Au$699.74 (close enough to $700). If we then add 10% GST, we get $770. Fair enough.
I assume the techs will do a minor service and check the camera for tolerances, etc when they do the change of components. I should have asked.
I wonder what I can get for my used K-1 (with Sigma scratch) and is it worth the hassle to sell it and get a new K1-II with the extra period of warranty, etc?
Food for thought

I have a cupboard full of screw mount and bayonet mount taks and SMC's, etc as well. Bought them all when I first started out on this 'cheap' hobby
I really should put them through their paces on the K-1 and see which works.

Nicely taken Clarkey. Art is such an individual taste. Not my cup o' tea but it is undeniable that these kids think they are important. I never have figured out how they think they are being individual by looking like everyone else with tatts, but hey, what would I know? (colour me fuddy duddy).
I hope these kids still like them in 40 years time, there is no going back (or is there? I've often thought a tatt removal business would be a goldmine :))
My daughter and her hubby have quite a collection, but they are respectful enough to at least make a pretense of covering them up when they visit. No neck or face tatts, thank goodness.

Fair enough.
I disagree.
The 31 is amazing, The sigma is huge by comparison, less wide, but faster.
There is no less subtlety in a large but silent lens than a small but slightly noisy one.
Your findings are valid. Thanks for the comparison.

in the recently controversial Pepsi ad there are two photographers, a male and a female. Both are using a pentax 645. I couldn't tell if they were the d or z.
